I picked this up at the library last night. I did not have it on my list just noticed it in the new books section. My 8-year-old
son loved it and even my 15-year-old daughter looked at it with him some. I think our favorite was the Leech-Eel and we all
have been slamming the toilet seats just in case. My son was a little worried about the Corner Cat. I would not recommend
this for kids that are prone to nightmares or worry about monsters. I would recommend it for ages 8 and up.

He absolutely loves this book. Its great for his imagination and he loves trying to remember them all by heart. He even had
me buy him an empty book so that he could add his own monsters too. It's one of my favorite things I bought him for christmas.

A fantastic guide for would-be monster hunters in your home. Each creature has a 2 page entry detailing it's likely location,
what it likes to eat and most importantly, if it's harmful to people and how to protect yourself against it. Quite a few,
if not all, also have some reproduction of a 'historical' sighting of the monster. The distressed pages of the book give it
the feel of something you might accidentally find tucked away in the attic.
Most of the critters are funny and harmless, but a few might give the younger ones a fright. In particular, the Bedwolf which lurks under your bed...I always wondered what the thing under the bed looked like and now I'm glad I never knew as a kid! This one will literally have them jumping into bed so their ankles don't come within grabbing distance of the Bedwolf' six arms.
Another favorite is the Corner Cat (felis angulosa), a very skinny kitty that stands on it's hind legs and jumps out from corners to bite your ankles. Perhaps realted to the Lovecraftian Hounds of Tindalos?
All in all, this is a terrific collection of original beasties sure to spark the imagination of monster enthusiasts young and old.

Worry Wart Wes, is definitely stressed. Tolya L. Thompson deals with the realities of today's children in bright, bold, and
successful colors. The color draws the children in and keeps them wanting more. If you are looking for pastel baby blues
in soothing colors in a book, then this book is not for you. The pictures are wonderful and almost realistic. Have you ever
seen an appealing wart? Well you won't see it in this book either. The rhyme is designed to develop phonemic awareness,
and it works. The children walk around repeating phrases in the book; which ultimately helps them retain and recognize words
in the future. If your child doesn't sit through this story write the author and get some tips on how to utilize the book.
The children are entertained until the end of the story, and always ask you to "READ IT AGAIN!"

I highly reccomend Tolya Thompson's books Loud Lips Lucy & Worry Wart Wes. Her unique rythmes are complimented by colorful
& fun illustrations. The books are extremely entertaining as well as eductational. The smartie at the end of the book explaines
the medical problem that her character has. This promotes health & awareness from a young age. I have never before read
a childrens book which incorporates such important topics.

The second book in the "Smarties Series" from Savor Publishing House, Worry Wart Wes is the story of a stressed out young
boy. Told in singsong rhyme by Tolya L. Thompson, and brought to life with vibrant color illustrations by Juan R. Perez, Worry
Wart Wes shows how a young boy named Wes learns to counter rising pressures with simple relaxation techniques - taking a deep
breath and then blowing out the awful thoughts and stressors inside. A "smartie" note for both kids and parents at the end
of Worry Wart Wes offers wisdom about the negative effects of too much stress in children.

looking at the beautiful, vibrant pictures. Tolya's books will DEFINITELY be a part of my child's library.

I found this book to be very good for normalizing chronic STDs for women and displaying a wide range of coping strategies

I have just finished reading Damaged Goods? and I highly recommend it. This well researched book provides a fascinating and
informative read into the lives of women with chronic sexually transmitted diseases. Adina Nack, through her sophisticated
analysis, gives voice to a population that largely remains silent in today's society. While herpes and HPV affect millions
of Americans, they are topics that are rarely discussed. The impact of this book should not be limited to people who share
the condition, as this book can also provide valuable insight for both clinicians in the field and the general public. One
can only hope that exploring the concerns and challenges faced by women with these conditions will help not only others with
herpes and HPV, but also assist in decreasing the stigma surrounding the conditions.
Must-read for anyone diagnosed with HPV or herpes!

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with one of these STDs, then this is the first book to read! It's detailed, without
being too academic. The women's stories are compelling, and the author really makes you think about how harmful those stereotypes
about STDs can be, especially those about the types of women who get STDs. I also appreciated the author's honesty in revealing
her own struggles with HPV.

As a mother of a young woman living with HPV, this book helped me understand her feelings and fears. Whether your daughter
is 13 or 30, this is a must read for parents. After sharing this book ,we were able to sit down and begin a dialogue. Her
mood swings and anger that had been directed at me were really symptoms of her trying to cope with her diagnosis. I didn't
realize how alone and "damaged" my daughter felt. Our relationship is so much stronger now.

How dare "Gooch"(if that is his real name) claim such an outragious statement! Mr. Friedman was one of the hardest-working
caricaturists in business from the time period in which he used innumerable ammounts of dots in his work(and certainly the
same for hard-working cartoonists, right up there with Henriette Valium)! I admire his work greatly, and I would not prefer
it to many cartoonists if in fact your "rapidograph" statement was indeed (psssh!) true! From now on, research something before
ya write a review claiming something you obviously made up, thinking no one could have such great talent. And claiming that
Vonnegut got "high-minded" when compairing Drew to Goya is an insult to both Mr. Friedman, and Mr. Vonnegut. Furthermore,
I will enjoy your reply and/or apology and/or insult posted on this fair site, that is, if you will stop being insulted, and
actually take in what I have typed. May the Earth smell of Drew Friedman's philosophical celebrity skewerings evermore, amen.

Ya see? This is what happens when 2 shlubs waste their precious time watching Sandler & Young on THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW. (Didn't
Bruce ever tell them to go outside and get some fresh air?)
Josh's wordage really outdid itself in ENTERTAINMENT FREAK (my favorite thingy). Wherein the word "entertainment" takes on the hypnotic quality of a mantra. The sour crabby look on Miriam's face happens to be the greatest pictorial rendering of anything since...oh...I'd have to go back to Margaret Keane in her prime.
In case you're curious, Drew accomplishes his stuff with something called a rapidograph. Kurt Vonnegut got all high-minded by claiming that Drew is right up there with Goya. But I very much doubt if Goya or Van Gogh or even Ernie Bushmiller (the illustrious illustrator of NANCY & SLUGGO) could've been capable of the meticulous subtlety on display here.

Mr. Gooch McCracken is quite incorrect. Drew Friedman has NEVER used a rapidograph pen in his work, EVER. He uses a Crowquill
pen with a HUNT nib, the reason being that the line drawn by a rapidograph does not vary. Mr Friedman is much more of a true
ARTIST than THAT.

The Friedman brothers are without a doubt two of the most brilliant satirists alive. Warts and All contains capsule biographies
of a variety of obscure individuals and bygone celebrities. There are odd juxtapositions of serial killers and celebrities.
The artwork (meticulously crafted with rapidograph) is excellent. Warts and All is dark, very dark comedy. It is not for
everyone. However, if the reader is familiar with the references, one can appreciate what a virtuoso work this is. Highly
recommended for the twisted lay person.

Ms. Forgette's poetry has a rhythm to it that flows. With the skill of a jazz drummer, her metres naturally carry we, the
readers, from verse to verse when suddenlly...she drops a break in the cadence that sweeps my breath away. Her meanings cover
the gamut from simple questionings on the meaning of life to deep sensual imagery. While many of her poems contain a lot of
deep meanings and are very advanced, suitable for the advanced reader, most of her poems are accessible to all - rare for
modern poetry, I add. And yet, even the most difficult poems still contain those beautiful rhythms that made my heart skip
a beat the first poem of her's that I read.
That's some fine poetry

the attention of toddlers and allow for breaks... oh yes, did I mention the cookie breaks? Another wonderful work by children's

I was honored to pick up this second volume of a sort of "trilogy." The thing that caught me about it right away was the
way the turbulence of the 1960s comes across in this book. Immediately, you feel as if you're living in that time period
and mingling with these characters. I think the prose in this book is flawless and it's the main reason we get to see so
much into the time, places, and the character's lives. I have to admit, I was a little puzzled throughout the book with the
warts and sofourth. I thought it was an intriguing part of the character and the story. I found that it's one of those books
you read and then after you're finished, you know you like it but you can't put your finger on what it is you like about it.
But a few weeks after you read it, the story and the characters are still in your head. That's what I found amazing about
it.

where do i start? what a book! i had read vision quest in middle school and was blown away by the authors characters and the
way he drew you deep into their lives and minds. well, that was nothing. mysterious ways is the best book i've ever read,
hands down. the characters are wonderfully compelling, and davis' ability to put you in the middle of someplace you've never
been is...almost scary. my visits to spokane, wa and other parts of the pacific northwest in davis' writing are almost more
real to me than my own true memories. i've read this book 7 or more times, and i know i will read many more times before i'm
done. if there was any justice, this book would have never gone out of print. if you ever happen to read this...thank you
mr. davis. you've given me a wonderful gift.
