I wrote this handbook to be as a practical guide for residents/fellows/ students and other clinicians in taking care gyn onc patients. Gyn onc patients are unique in the sense that they are surgical patients but usually with many medical problems (HTN, DM, COPD,etc). Thus, this handbook was written more like a combination of the surgery handbook + the Washington manual. my residents and fellows at UT Southwestern/Parkland and UTMB especially found the complication management section to be helpful in taking care their sick patients in the middle of the night. The chemo section is as update it as the GOG manual. I kept the book small enough to be pocket size, thus, easier to carry around.

This books is written for clinicians like you. thus, any feedback from you will be appreciated and incorporated to the next edition. thanks...

This handbook is concise, yet packed with the kind of information you need at the bedside, on rounds, or in preparation for the OR. Several of the sections have clear tables which make quick reference possible. And the procedures section provide clear step by step instructions for most all cases.

There is great, easy to access information in this pocketbook not only on the subject of Gyn Onc, but also on the medical management of patients, which is so important in the practice of Gyn. Oncology. The medical management section is broken down by systems (e.g., neuro, pulmonary, etc.).

Handbook of Gyn Oncology is a beneficial pocketbook not only for students/residents on a Gyn Onc rotation, but also for students and residents on other medical or surgical rotations (I've used it both on Dr. Santoso's rotation and in other months). Whether you need to know what the risks for HIV or hepatitis transmission during hemotransfusion or how/when to dose heparin or fresh frozen plasma, it's in this book. This pocketbook also contains descriptions of commonly performed surgical procedures in gynecologic oncology, as well as sections on chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Dr. Santoso is considered one of the finest clinical educators at The University of Tennessee, and his book is concise, thorough, and highly recommended.

Dr. Friedrich, Eduard G. - Worked at Shands Teaching Hospital as the head of OB/GYN (Chairman). His death a while ago really hurt me, as I saw him as a father figure. It was not just a loss to his immediate family, it was a loss to the world. His knowledge of Benign Diseases of the Vulva and Vagina confused some, but helped and was understood by thousands of MD's. It is used and is considered a "BIBLE" to most that read. It's worth keeping nearby and in your arm's reach at all times! Dr. Friedrich not only was a great doctor, but he also wrote poems in his spare time. These poems (that I know of) are not on the market because their protected and are held in the University of Florida Law Library...ONLY! These were donated to the library there by Dr. Eduard G. Friedrich himself. His family tree continues to grow with his surviving children; Lisa Marie (Friedrich) Sherman and Jennifer Lowe (Friedrich) Lowe. I was his Son-in-law; Trent Allaire Sherman, and am married to his daughter Lisa. We have two daughters now (Katrina Marie and Nicole Allaire, ages 10 and 11 1/2). When you finish reading this beautifully composed hard-covered book, please consider checking out his wonderful poems that are in the U of F Law Library located in Gainesville, Florida.

Much used and needed book if you are going into the cytology field. Clear, concise, in a 1lb book, what more can students ask for?

It simplified the reporting system of exfoliative cytology.

The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical/Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses has greatly simplified and standardized the nomenclature for reporting the spectrum of pathologic as well as non-pathologic conditions of the cervix and vagina. The pictures are helpful, although it would have helped more if there are more than one picture for every condition to show the spectrum of any said condition. This would help guide the cytotechnologists/cytopathologists in naming, reporting the condition. What is exemplary in the system is its integration of the reporting of the adequacy of the specimen. This has a lot of impact in the clinical corelation as well as alerting the physicians of the possible limitations of the diagnosis. All in all, it is a well made system.

Most of what is in this book is absolutely true. If you are heterosexual, not part of the trashcan of society (ie a drug using scumbag or ex-con) and have a normal sex life, your chance of getting AIDS is, for all intents and purposes, zero. In other words, out in the dating world, don't worry about it. The point I am making is that ALOT of men are using this book and others like it specifically to make the argument that vaginal intercourse is safe and that they can use prostitutes both here and abroad, with impunity. To be blunt, that's gonna get you killed. Yes, vaginal intercourse has a low transmission rate. However, it's nowhere near zero and prostitutes are probably the highest risk partners a man is likely to have contact with unless he is a closet case. If you use prostitutes, you probably WILL get AIDS, even if you wear a condom. Worse, you probably WILL give it to your wife....so DON'T do it. AIDS is rampant among women both in the US and especially in countries men go to get prostitutes. Partly, that's because close to 100% are pretty heavy drug users, usually intravenous drugs, but mostly, it's because most of their clients are high risk drug scum, ex-cons and other people you absolutely don't want as part of your shared sexual history. Almost all women who have AIDS are prosititutes. Almost all risk of AIDS for a heterosexual man comes from prostitutes. So, stay the hell away from them. If some fool tells you different and tries to get you to use prostitutes, kick him in the nuts....he needs a serious wake up call.
