I purchased two of these for our LG Chocolate phones. The price was excellent and the chargers are just as described. They charge more quickly than the LG wall charger that came with the phone. Highly recommend this car charger and the seller. Great service!!

I've had an adventure finding a portable recharger for my Verizon Chocolate phone. This one is perfect! A word of warning: this little thing gets really hot, and completely drains the life out of the battery used for power. But, it beats having a dead cellphone.

My son loves this book so much that he doesnt just want me to read it at night.. he wants me to read it a million times in the day too! my 19 month old loves pointing out all the objects on the page that we are saying good night to. The worlds are flowy.. the pictures are perfect and it keeps him interested from the first page to the last. A toddlers bookshelf is incomplete without this book!

I got the book for my 4 yr old and 2 yr old - but neither of them like it much. My husband and I don't like reading it either, and here's why:

The text is quite disjoint, like bits and pieces of other fairy tales and nursery rhymes put together. It seems like the author has just put down random things together - there's no rhyme (literally!) or reason for any of the pages. It does not flow lyrically.

The only interesting aspect is the black and white illustrations on some of the pages. This offers a striking contrast to the color illustrations. However, the whole book has not been put together well, and the quality of illustrations is just so-so. So the impact of the b&w is also pointless.

Compared to other wonderful books like the "Hungry Caterpillar" or "Ten Little Lady Bugs" or "The Firefly's First Flight" which we all really love, this book definitely is not worth having in the childrens' bookshelf.

I seem to be among the minority in disliking this book on Amazon - perhaps I am not seeing something that others are.. But hey! this is truly my opinion!

Childhood memories

My mom read to me every night as a child and our library of children's books were immense. I have vivid memories of approx 10 books out of hundreds and this is one of them. I agree with another reviewer that this book captures the quiet and stillness of a snowy winter day in the city. It is a simple book but my daughter loves it as much as I did back in the 80's.
The other notable books from my childhood were

Harold and the purple crayon

Animalia

Goodnight Moon

Runaway bunny

Go! Dog Go!

And this whole monster series that I can not recall the exact names of....something like Monsters ABC and one about manners....I dunno.

I really love Snowy Day though...

Ezra Jack Keats crosses social and cultural boundaries in this book when he creates a story where the hero is a black boy in a big city. The book is a vibrant story of a little boy named Peter and the excitement of the first snow of the season.

The story is simple and easy to read, but the illustrations are what bring this book to life. Ezra Jack Keats uses collage and marbling techniques to illustrate this book. The vibrant colors help us with the mood of the story. When Peter is happy the sky is a brilliant blue, but then he becomes angry and the sky turns black. We can sense Peter's excitement when the sky is grey with swirls. Keats uses the colors and textures of his illustrations to set the mood and help us understand the story.

The Snowy Day is a Caldecott winner from 1963. This picture book would be perfect for any child in early childhood. In addition, an elementary teacher may use this book with older students (grades 2-5) as an example of how illustrations can set the mood. In addition this book would make a great think aloud on making predictions, connections, or asking yourself questions.

I had long forgotten this book from my childhood, and when a friend recently brought a copy over as a gift for my daughter, I gasped in delight.
The memories came flooding back as I turned each page to reveal the familiar artwork, still as fresh and engaging as it was so many years ago.
I hope my daughter grows to love this book as much as I did as a child, and I'm so excited to have been re-introduced to such a fantastic story.

Crunch, crunch, crunch. My boys love to read about Peter's adventures out in the snow. They began to enjoy the story and the pictures long before they were old enough to understand what happened to the snowball in Peter's pocket.

This book made such an impression on me when I was only 7 or 8. I am now in my mid-40s, and I can still remember the story and how intrigued I was with the artwork. I remember crying for Robert's loss of Stevie. I remember feeling the same feelings as Robert as he came to lose his jealousy of Stevie and soften his feelings toward him.

Some might think that this book would be appropriate for only African-American children, but I was a white child and consider it among the top 10 books I read as a young child. And even though this book was written so long ago, it still has major significance today.

The illustrations in this children's book are beautiful; the story appeals to all children; however, the use of incorrect grammar detracts from both the story and the illustrations. It is possible for children to use standard English if that is what they are exposed to in literature and in life. I was very disappointed in the use of grammar by the narrator and by the characters in the story.

Robert is an only child and he is used to having his mother all to himself. One day Robert's mother announces that Stevie will be coming to stay with them while his mother is working during the week and Robert is not happy. Robert gets jealous of the attention the younger Stevie (who Robert considers a crybaby) gets from his parents and hates the fact that he has to share his toys, friends and everything else with Stevie. Robert cannot wait until Stevie's mother comes to pick him up at the end of the week, or can he?

Stevie was published by John Steptoe when he was only nineteen years old. He expertly captures the feelings many children have when they have to share things or attention with a younger child or sibling. Check out Stevie, for a humorous story that most anyone can relate to.

Stevie, written and illustrated by John Steptoe when he was only 16 yrs. old, was the inauguration of a wonderful career as a children's author for Mr. Steptoe. All of his books are heartfelt, compassionate, richly illustrated, and can bridge the gap among all races; he was doing the multicultural thing well before it was "multicultural"ly defined and politically correct. Stevie fits in with our current PC climate without coming off as trendy and purposeful. It simply tells a tale of a young boy, Stevie, who is sent to stay with an older boy and his family while Stevie's mother works at her new job. The older boy, Robert, resents the intrusion of Stevie in his life. Always tagging along, getting footprints on the bedcovers, and acting "like a baby" to Robert's mother, Stevie is the classic irritating but innocent little brother who, in the end will be sorely missed by Robert when Stevie's mother finally comes to take him back home with her. As a young white reader who grew up in a very white world, this book, about two African-American boys, was always my very favorite children's book not only because of the stunning illustration, but because of the commonality and familiarity this book held with me: it could have easily been my story. And it could have been any story for any child anywhere. I loved the fact that it was introduced at a time when race relations needed bridging and commonalities needed awareness. It is a book for the ages.

the book I thought did not exist on the beatitudes...
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-14
I have spent what seems to be a small fortune on books on the sermon on the mount and/or the beatitudes. Some have been scholarly; some have been practical. Yet never did these works quench my thirst for understanding this essential teaching of the Lord Christ Jesus.

Yet when I started reading this book, just after reading about the first beatitude, I sensed the Spirit of the Lord within and praised the Lord for this book. Finally, after a ten year on and off study of the first of Jesus' teaching, God allowed me to find this book. This far exceeds anything I have read; it answers the questions I had of this WONDERFUL TEACHING OF THE KING OF KINGS, THE LORD OF LORDS. It is neither like a shallow pond, with its mud stirred up, which seems deep because the bottom is not within view. This false depth is typical of many scholarly works on this subject, which do not satisfy us with truth but distract our intellect with wordiness. Nor is this like many practical works, which often depend on a false piety due to a lack of the exegetical skills and effort needed to crack the tough code of this passage.

Just get it, buy it. You must understand the first teaching of Christ, since all His teaching and His great comission point back to this beginning. To serve Him and enter His kingdom, His first teaching, the beatitudes and the sermon on the mount, are HIS REQUIREMENT, SINCE THEY ARE HIS COMMANDS, HIS REQUIREMENTS OF ENTRANCE INTO HIS KINGDOM.

Two great books in one volume

This book contains Carson's book on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) from 1978 and his 1987 _When Jesus Confronts the World_ on Matthew 8-10. Both books are excellent, and it's nice to have them in one volume.

The original Sermon on the Mount book discussed some historical, critical, and theological questions within the main text, and Carson has now separated that material into appendices, making the main body of the text more like that of the second book. Both books originated out of sermons, and therefore they are quite accessible, yet the fact that they're from one of the foremost evangelical biblical scholars today ensures that they flow out of the best biblical scholarship.

This book is an excellent place to get into this section of Matthew without the full study of a commentary and all the distractions therein. It focuses on the main theological and practical points in the text, making it useful for understanding the point of the text for the Christian life, yet it does it from someone who is a published scholar on the book of Matthew, which gives it far more backing than slimmer studies tend to have.

Great Exposition on the Beatitudes... Not So Great on Jesus' "Hard" Sayings
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-18
I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from Carson's exposition of the beatitudes. His book works much like a commentary. His exegesis was enlightening and truly helped me to enter into the meaning behind these great words of Jesus. The world says, "Happy are those who..." Jesus responds by turning worldly wisdom on its head.

However, I believe this respected scholar falls short on his interpretation of Matt. 5:38-48. I'm tired of people trying to make private the "hard sayings" of Jesus so that they are no longer hard. If we are walking in the Spirit of Christ... we will not gratify the desires of the flesh (Gal.5:16). When Jesus said "love your enemies"... he meant it. When Jesus said, "Do not resist an evil person"... yeah... he meant that too. I believe that Mr. Carson needs to rethink his position. Could it be that we have not really died to self when we feel that we have a "right" to defend our lives? I see a longing to "save" his life instead of "losing" it to save it. It could be that we are more influenced by American documents like the Bill of Rights than we are the New Testament.

If you are confused as to how far Christ intended us to take his statements... just look at his own life. He reflects the very image of God (1 Jn.4:7-21). Are we willing to say that Jesus simply assumed a pose to reach a certain end (the cross)? Christian, beware of the temptation that seeks to change Jesus' meaning because it seems unrealistic and too "hard" for you to accept. This is the cost of discipleship. As Peter said, "arm youselves also with the same attitude."

"If we claim to live in him, we must walk as Jesus did." 1 John 2:6

I recommend reading:

"Mere Discipleship: Radical Christianity in a Rebellious World" by Lee Camp
"The Politics of Jesus" by John Howard Yoder

The school teacher allows the kids to bring the dog back to the school boarding house. The trustees however, upon their annual inspections, throws the dog out. The kids and the teacher then goes out to look for the dog, finds him, and gets a great surprise. Caldecott Award winner.

What makes this book so hot? Page after page of iconic portraits of hip hop heros from the late Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls to modern masters like Wu Tang Clan and Outkast. And of course there are R&B divas like Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, and Faith Evans. There are shots of Michael and Janet Jackson and reggae stars like Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer. Also political figures like Louis Farrakhan and Rev. Al Sharpton. There's even a great portrait of Toni Morrison's dreadlocks. This is great photography that captures a great era in human history: the hip hop era.
