This is the best wound care resource I have. From basic care to physiology of wounds, this book covers everything in an easy to understand but comprehensive manner. I especially like the chapter on the interdisciplinary process.

As a layperson to the medical field, the most fascinating thing about this book was the extensive collection of colour plates. Showing textbook cases of exposed wounds. Sometimes with plenty of decaying skin and exposed muscle. The resemblences of some pictures to raw meat at the butcher's is stark.

One might wonder how patients let their conditions deteriorate to the depths shown here. How could you walk around, or not, with some of those wounds, and not have it treated before they got so bad?

Happy reading.

The previous review writer seems to have misunderstood the review presented above. The review, in fact, DOES allude to Jouanna's text. The Loeb version is merely discussed in Jouanna's text in the "Notes" section.

The expert of Amazon may have confused of 2 differnt books into one title under the name of Hippocrates Loeb Classical.

Only the hard cover link may be right in selling and showing the image of Loeb Classical Volume VIII:

Hippocrates (Loeb Classical Library, No 482)
by Paul Potter

Links of image, paperback, and customer reviews are all on the different book of:

Hippocrates (Medicine and Culture)
by Jacques Jouanna, M. B. Debevoise
Paperback: 540 pages
Publisher: Johns Hopkins University Press; Reprint edition (December 1, 2001)
ISBN: 0801868181

Contents of book on Hippocrates is as good as book "by" Hippocrates. But the web design is confusing to customers. How can we buy each great 8 volumes of Hippocrates Loeb Classical, and choose out books "on" Hippocrates like this?

Just to reiterate the point, the review above is for a book on Hippocrates by Jaques Jouanna. It only references the Loeb book in its critique, and was probably attahced to this Loeb page by accident. The Loeb books on Hippocrates come in several volumes.

This is an excellent medicinal reference on the workings of the
gastrointestinal system. The book is written from the perspective
of conventional medicine. It discusses classic gastrointestinal
issues; such as, difficulty in swallowing, gas, non-cardiac
discomfort, chest pain, nausea, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss and constipation. Abdominal pain on the left side is associated with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). Pain on the right
side of the abdomen may be Crohns related. Diarrhea and rectal
bleeding are the classic symptoms of Crohns disease. The CT scan,
MRI, endoscopy and colorectal examinations are the classic
invasive techniques for detection. Non-invasive tests involve
analysis of the breath, blood tests, stool and fecal occult exams. Duodenal ulcers are caused by H-pylori. Standard treatments are H2 blockers, pepcid AC and proton pump inhibitors.
Prilosec is a classic proton inhibitor.

The work is a must for any health enthusiast. The problems
described are classic middle-age conditions encountered by
large portions of the population for a variety of reasons
ranging from genetics to junk food consumption. The work is
a solid investment for the price charged. Acquiring this volume will help you to discuss any of the symptomatology intelligently
with your primary care physician or medical specialist.

Just the book I needed.

For those of us suffering from both known and unknown stomach maladies (in my case the wonderful catchall dyspepsia, for which there is no cure -- see this book to have that driven home in full force!) The Ulcer Story is highly informative. Although it is written in quite a professional tone -- no layperson here -- still, I believe anyone can understand it and benefit from the many detailed descriptions of treatments, as well as the photographs.

I highly recommend this book.

A must for your reference library if your have an ulcer!

Stop looking. This book is a one stop guide that will enable you to understand what your body is doing in those places you can't see, but you KNOW they are there. I believe every doctor should update their ulcer related knowledge by reading this book. "The Ulcer Story" is written in an easy to digest manner, so don't hesitate in finding out about YOUR stomach.

I had H. pylori previous to discovering through an Endoscopic exam that a Peptic ulcer hadn't healed and a growth developed on a healed Duodenal ulcer. Result: Surgery. Afterward, I was so sick and no one had an answer for "what do I do now"?

Get this book before surgery. Find out your options for treatment before and after. Take it with you to the doctors office. Go armed with information that will help you be a smart consumer. You couldn't spend your time better or money wiser.

Excellent Resource Book on food & digestive medical exams
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-27
I have read & referenced a number of books on digestive health. This book is excellent. It is one of the first that clearly & quickly gives you the information you need on food but also the medical exams to detect digestive health problems. Also, the book does a great job of giving you the advantages and disadvantages. For example, the authors talk about a food and then caution on potential problem. The authors talk about medicines like proton pump inhibitors, antacids, milk of magnesium and then give you the advantages and disadvantages. The authors talk about medical tests and how they are conducted, how to prepare, questions to ask your doctor, etc... The book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to prevent a digestive problem, or suspects that they have a digestive problem, or is living with a digestive problem or recovering from one.

Review Date: 2005-10-25
"Ulcer Free: Nature's Safe & Effective Remedy for Ulcers" by Georges M. Halpern, MD is one of the more useful and informative books on the subject of peptic ulcer care. This book is written from the viewpoints of the doctor, scientist and teacher, all of whom the author is. Though concise, there is room in this paperback for chapters dealing with Peptic Ulcer Disease, NSAIDs and Ulcers, Lifestyle Causes and Factors, Symptoms and Diagnoses, Conventional Ulcer Treatments, Alternative and Complementary Treatments, A Natural Approach to Ulcer Treatment and Conclusions plus a helpful Glossary and extensive references.

WHAT REALLY SETS THIS BOOK APART:

"Ulcer Free" examines the likely candidates for treatment that you have tried or may have yet to try. Different medicines and classes of drugs are discussed and evaluated based on their efficacy, long-term effects on the human body and side effects. Even Traditional Chinese Medicine is included. Most importantly, a revolutionary new treatment using Zinc-Carnosine is examined in depth.

Scientific studies are referred to through the entire text, and as books written for lay people go, this book includes some pretty good science. Add to this, it reads fast and understandably while addressing the concerns of the patient. In an hour or so, you will be able to find answers to many specific questions about medicines, symptoms, dosages and alternative treatments as they existed in 2002.
