My son who is almost 7 has always wet the bed. It was a non-issue in our house as we knew he couldn't help it. He wore Pull-ups nightly. But about a month ago, he came to me expressing his desire to stop. I researched the various methods which can help children become dry. I was intriqued by the reviews for this book that I read on here, so we decided to buy it. We also bought a Wet-Stop bedwetting alarm. My son loves this book and we happily reviewed it every day. Within days of using the alarm and this book, he started having a few dry nights. This is a child that had only one or two dry nights a YEAR before we started this. It is now almost a month since we started this program and he has had 14 totally dry nights in a row!! We are ready to stop the use of the alarm tonight and he is so, so excited and proud! We will look at his book together until he decides to stop (he likes it so much, I'm not sure when that will be!) Of course, since we used the two methods, it's not totally possible to say how this book would have worked for us by itself, but I have an inkling that the book helped the most. It is also very good for a child's self-esteem. We are so very happy with this wonderful book and want to thank the author, too! Because of a family history of bedwetting, we assumed that my son would probably go on bedwetting for years. What a wonderful surprise for us and especially for him. This book has helped turn this whole thing into a positive experience for my little boy. He feels confident and now feels that he has control over this part of his life.

Yup it works!

I tried this on my four-year-old daughter, although only half-heartedly because I did not want to pressure her. First, she stopped wetting during her naps. Then she would stay dry at night on and off. Then she said she wanted to stop doing the chart. ANd then she stayed dry night after night. That was six months ago and she doesn't even have accidents.

What I love about this book's approach is that it empowers the child to have control over their bladder. I find other approaches, such as alarms, to be a bit punitive and makes the child feel like it's their fault for wetting at night. The author obviously understands and loves children. Her compassion shines through every page.

Thank you very much, Alison Mack!

I used to wet the bed, but after reading this, I stopped!! I thought that after 16 years of bed wetting, I was doomed to a life on wet lonliness, but no longer!! Thank you David Wilensky, you've saved my life, now I can share a bed with other people!!

This is the book for anybody having children who wet their beds. It provides a good introduction to the different causes for bed-wetting and guidance on how to address them.
In our family we followed the program with the alarm system, since our boy's bed-wetting was due to deep sleep. Using the positive reinforcement and guidelines outlined in the book, our son was dry in less than 2 months. I just wish I had seen this book sooner.

This is truly an excellent, in depth report of how and why children remain at the bedwetting stage in their lives. It is a commitment to a regimen that is necessary to get beyond the wetting stage. I have an 8 year-old male that is a very heavy sleeper. I sometimes think I've comitted more into this than he has. While the Kegel exercises work, and we made a rhyme of it...(we call it doing the Three Pee) it has controlled his over-wetting on most nights. So, our nights of getting up to change sheets are slowly becoming history. In my opinion, if the child is truly committed to being dry, this program WILL work! It's an excellent read for the biological minded. Share it with your twinkler. They'll enjoy understanding the science behind the wet bed!

Replaces expensive enuresis resolution programs, best reference available to the layman on the subject. We consulted numerous pediatricians and pediatric urologists who were no help. We found the book after enrolling in an Ann Landers reccomended program- could have saved the money- this book was much more helpful. One note of caution- there is a very bad typo in the paperback edition.DITROPAN SYRUP IS 5mg/5ml NOT 5mg/ml. That could be a dangerous error for those interpolating their dosages for tablets.

In response to a previous review that points out a typographical error in the Ditropan graphic, we would like to assure our readers that this has been corrected in the second printing which also includes additional updated material and information.

This is a delightful book not only geared for children who are bedwetting, but also children who have low self esteem. This book truly focuses on building their esteem through patience and understanding that many children seem to be looking for. This book is worth reading to your child or having your child read it themself.

Enhanced with the delightful illustrations by Marcy Ramsey and now in its second edition, Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel is the collaboratively written picturebook story by Jayce C. Mills and Richard J. Crowley specifically written to help young children to overcome the problem of bed wetting. In the allegorical story, a young elephant named Sammy has difficulty holding and carrying buckets of water. Mr. Camel offers him guidance: "You just have to trust you can do it. Some things take a little more time to learn than others, Sammy. And you have time to learn that now." As Sammy grows and practices, he learns new abilities that he can put to good use when a fire breaks out and he has to carry and hold water, then use it at just the right spot to put the fire out. The final pages of Sammy The Elephant & Mr. Camel offer detailed information for parents, by children's author and psychologist Jane Annunziata, Psy.D., about when to recognize urinary incontinence as a problem in children, and what can be done about it, including the importance of first ruling out infections or similar problems. Very highly recommended.

Even though Cecilia is a clever little girl who can even write her name, she has a problem that just will not go away. Cecilia wets her bed. Even though she tries very hard, and sleeps on uncomfortable plastic sheets and soggy nighties, simply cannot overcome her bed wetting. Then one night Cecilia has a wonderful dream about a little mermaid who reveals she also has the same problem! Penelope Jossen's lovely artwork perfectly illustrates Jeanne Willis's gentle, rhyming story and will prove comforting to any young readers struggling with this common problem of childhood.

My four children and my students loved this book! No translation was needed (they all have had a pretty thorough introduction to Spanish) because the pictures were great, and they all identified with the little boy who had to go.

After we studied tengo, tienes (I have, you have) in the Flip Flop Spanish series, this was the perfect treat for them. I'm planning to get more by this author both for my family and class time. How fun!

Pantley is one of those amazing parenting book writers whose primary focus is one of compassion. In The No-Cry Potty Training Solution, she talk about listening to your children's body language and reading the cues. As a new parent, I found her book extremely helpful when it came to potty training my child. The book is full of tips and tricks that can help parents in the early days of potty training. With the aid of Pantley's book, I was able to separate my child's unique situation from the standard textbook's and really listen in to what her body was telling me. In a few short weeks, she was fully trained and was able to say bye bye to her diaper. I would highly recommend this book to any parent struggling with this important milestone in their children's life.

Nor, do I have time to do anything elaborate with potty training. This book broke it down to make this an easy win-win situation for me and the kids. Thank you!

I have all of Elizabeth Pantley's books and defintely recommend them to everyone I know who is a parent! I found the no-cry potty trainging book to be especially helpful and made potty training my daughter an easy experience for both of us!

This book repeated the same useless information that I have read a hundred times. Just, basically, let your child train themself, even if they are four years old. Nothing interesting, thought-provoking, or even particularly helpful here. If you want to THINK about training, or be educated about it, I have read several MUCH better books.

I've had years of experience working with young children and seeing the frustration they and their parents went though during the potty-training phase. When it was time to potty train my son, I was understandably nervous. Elizabeth Pantley's book simplified things in such a way that I knew right away what methods I felt would work for my son and for me and he was potty-trained within a week by 2.5 years old. There was absolutely no fuss, no crying, no stress and he enjoyed it as much as I did. I have encouraged all my friends to use the book and thus far, none of the 30 families that followed her methods had any difficulty with the process. I believe that all children will eventually be potty-trained but the book ensures that it will be a smooth and easy transition from diapers to underwear! I feel that anyone who has difficulty taking the information and applying it to their situation is just looking for an easy fix and these methods do take time and effort but so does all good parenting! I rarely review books and will only do so if I feel that it is a true treasure that needs to be shared with other parents and this book is one of them! I always give a copy to friends when their child is close to the age of showing readiness. Elizabeth Pantley is a genius in that she takes her personal experience and years of research as well as the personal experiences of others and puts it all together in a hands-on, user-friendly book that anyone can use and be successful with as long as they are willing to apply the information! This book, along with her other books, are a requirement for every home library!

I read the mix reviews on this book, so I bought a used version for about $3.00, its worth $10.00 especially to learn more about having a dry night.
The book has some very useful information, like cutting out fruit and milk at night. (go figure) It is a guide for the Malem alarm so don't be surprised, but the alarm is well worth the $120.00. Also buy sheet protectors, they are much easier to wash than sheets($13 at babysrus) Although I would spend more to get them to tuck into the bed. Buy the book and pass it on

Hardly any other useful advice, just reasons why anything other than a pee alarm is a bad idea.

This wonderful book should be required reading for any parent with a child who wets the bed. It explains to parents what bedwetting is all about and how to get your child dry. As parents, we all wish there was some wonder drug or magic treatment to help our child get dry. This book explains that medical research continues to show that a bedwetting alarm is the only way to "speed up the clock" and help your child get dry.

Yes, I like most parents, have tried restricting fluids, waking my child to go to the bathroom, setting an alarm clock and DDAVP (a synthetic hormone/drug that reduces urine output for one night). These things were not effective at getting my child permanently dry. A bedwetting alarm is significantly better than any of these approaches and around 80% of children can get permanently dry with an alarm.

This book talks about how to effectively use an alarm - which is very important if you are serious about getting your child dry.

If your child has a problem with wetting the bed, BUY THIS BOOK. After speaking with my child's pediatrician and urologist and getting little information from them, I bought this wonderful book. I was so happy to finally read a well written, easy to understand resource from an expert. The information is easy to understand and really helps parents with what to do about their child's wetting. I was happy to finally get the facts about bedwetting - instead of the shady web sites that keep popping up that try and get you to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for their magic "correction".

I was tired of hearing "don't worry, he will grown out of it". I bought an alarm that was recommended for less than $100, followed the advice in the book, and my son now sleeps dry after only 10 weeks. He is such a different child. Thank you so much.

A waste of money if you are not using an alarm!!!

Unless you are working with an alarm right now, or planning to in the very near future, don't bother with this book. It has nothing else to offer. It's title should be "How to use a Bedwetting Alarm."

We are not ready for an alarm yet and I did not get ANY other useful information from this book. Try Waking Up Dry instead.

This book is very funny if you don't mind reading for 5 minutes about a boy who needs to pee. My son thinks it's hilarious, but then he's 12 and a little crude sometimes himself. I don't read it to my preschool class, because it does not convey an attitude that I want them to have. Also, some parents might find it a little offensive. All in all, it is funny but not for a group.

Note:
When I first obtained this book I made the assumption that it was a potty training book, and I wrote the review below. Someone pointed out that this book doesn't necesarily advertise itself as a potty training book. It's just a funny story. OK, that's fair. I can't change the stars but I do see the point. I suppose if I saw it just as a funny book for children I'd give it more stars.

-------------------------------------------------

This is not a book that actually teaches anything about using the potty. This is a funny book about a little boy who is repeatedly asked if he needs to go potty and says "no no no" but later has to "go" in the most inconvenient of circumstances. We've all been there, haven't we parents?

But this book doesn't train at all. If you want a funny book to share with a little boy who needs potty training, you may like this, but if you want a book that will help instruct a child, look elsewhere.

Another great Munsch

Andrew's parents ask him frequently if he needs to "Pee." He always says, "No!" But, a few minutes later the answer is "Yes, right now!" We liked this book because of it's realism. It is a typical problem for moms and dads of preschoolers. This book has a similar twist to his other books. The ending is not expected.

Before reading Dr. Bennett's book my nearly-6-year-old son went from wetting 3-4 times a night to being dry every night instead. Since my child was young, I liked that it offered fun ways to find out if he was ready for the program. Although I had to read the book with him, he was very excited to try. The lively manner in which it is written was encouraging. We both enjoyed learning why bedwetting happens and doing the "waking up practice" and "bladder attention". We had a few setbacks, but we used the suggested steps to deal with them and experienced success in 2 months. I believe that the combined visualization and behavioral components really helped. When we ran into a problem that wasn't addressed in the book we went to the website and got additional help. The confidence my son gained from becoming dry at night has transferred over to other parts of his life. I'm so glad that we used this book.

This is the ONLY book you will need to help your child become dry! Dr. Bennett made it so fun and easy to follow for both my daughter and me. My daughter is 7 and was very excited when we started reading the book together and planning out our program. Dr. Bennett explained everything, from the physiological to the psychological in a way that was interesting and engaging for both of us. I would read the book late at night and always find something useful to review with her the next day. The hardest part was seeing my daughter get disappointed when she would be wet after several dry nights, but Dr. Bennett tells you how to deal with every possible situation in a light, easy to understand way, so that you, as a parent, can procede with the confidence that your child needs from you. This book and the whole experience has created a precious memory and a special bond between me and my daughter. My daughter was completely dry in 3 months. Thank you, Dr. Bennett!!!

This book basically tells you to go and buy a bedwetting alarm. It doesn't have any actual tips on getting your kid dry any other way. I checked it out from the library thinking the "program" might be something to try before we spent the $70+ on the alarm. I would have been angry if I bought this book only to have it tell me over halfway through that the "program" is to use a bed wetting alarm. This book is just to answer questions for people who don't know how to use google search.

This book is written for kids but parents will learn alot, too. My 9 year old loved it. Dr Bennett begins by describing how common bedwetting is among grade school aged kids. He gives simple statistics that helped my son feel that his problem was shared by many kids, probably other 9 year olds in his class! Even though our family has been through medication, alarms, diet changes and fluid restricting for over two years (yes, two years) we learned a tremendous amount. My hunch is that kids younger than 7 years of age might find the reading level above their ability, so maybe reading to the child might be the answer. I loved it and so does Sam, age 9 1/2.

What I have to say is complex, yet simple. I was a bedwetter who had tried everything, my parents tried the best they could to help. I wet the bed until I was sixteen years old. I was unable to do sleepovers like other children. At sixteen and deeply emotionally scarred I stopped wetting and was still hurting from the years of embarrasment. At the age of 20 I was volunteering in a library and shelved this book. I read it at that time and I was somehow healed of my wounds. I have searched for it since in every book store and now I have found it, thank God for Amazon.com. I cannot wait for the oppurtunity to share this treasure with my children.

I bought this book for my 4 year old, thinking it would help us to train him to stay dry at night. In actuality, it is for children dealing with the stigma of bedwetting. The book emphasizes how it is OK to wet the bed and OK for Mom to constantly change the sheets and wash the PJs. It was not what I expected...I think it would be good for a child who is having serious psychological damage due to bedwetting, but not for a 4 or 5 year old.

Review Date: 2003-11-15
I bought this book for my 3-1/2 year old daughter who, despite daytime potty training success, has not yet been able to stay dry all night consistently. Although we have always been comforting and encouraging, she is beginning to express frustration and disappointment in herself for not being able to stay dry through the night. This book was exactly what we needed.

The story is about Little Bunny (LB, for short), who really wants to stay dry all night but keeps waking up wet, confused, and sad. His parents are very supportive, telling him that when his body is ready, he will stay dry. By the end of the book, he does just that.

It's an adorable story, and a very sensitive treatment of the subject. My daughter was enthralled, and she smiled with delight when LB succeeded in staying dry all night.

I was really touched by the sensitivity with which LB's parents handled the situation, especially when they said LB didn't need to go back to wearing diapers since, "We don't mind washing your sheets in the morning if you don't mind changing your pajamas in the middle of the night." There was a lesson in that for me as well. After several months of doing extra laundry, I bought a package of training pants for my daughter. She was really disappointed, since she had long since graduated to big-girl underpants, but she reluctantly agreed to wear them. After reading the book to her tonight, I decided to back off on that and keep trying.

I know I'm not alone in feeling helpless when my child is unable to keep herself dry at night. This book offers a simple, sensitive way to reassure your child (and yourself) that this, too, shall pass.
