I just recently passed the MRI registry thanks to this one book. I've been an MRI Tech for over 22 years and this book was very good in breaking down the Physics associated with MRI. The authors prove to the world that being a MRI Tech is definitely more than just "pushing buttons"!

Superb!

I have an engineering background and needed to learn MRI for my job. I knew nothing about MRI and this gave an excellent overview. It talks about things at the proton level, data collection in k-space with frequncy/phase RF signals, to images with FFTs. It also talks about the electronics of the system and commonly used sequences. The colored tables and highlighted text makes things exteremly easy to follow.

I own many, many books on medical imaging, specifically MRI. This book encompassess the physics, sequences, imaging parameters, artifacts, contrast, and clinical application of these in very simple language with great illustrations. The authors have succeeded in publishing the best-written and most thorough of study/review books out there today.

This is a great book to have as a quick reference for major studies, staging, appropriate treatments. It was a very helpful review for the re-certification exam in radiation oncology.

Excellent handbook that you can squeeze into your white-coat

It's concise and has some solid pearls as intro to each section, lists most of the studies/trials that affect management, includes basic workup, staging tables and management algorithms/tables.
It's also useful for really basic simulation/planning pearls along with some dose constraints.
Great for morning conference prep - at the very minimum, read the relevant chapter out of hansen. The high-yield nature of the information will serve you well.

Some chapters are more high-yield than others (each chapter is by a different set of authors), as is true of any book.

You can also use it to orient yourself on the issues concerning a certain site, before you choose to memorize every word in perez, leibel & gunderson ;)
You can *squeeze* it into your white-coat.
In short, for a new resident, it's indispensable.

Haven't had a chance to check out the new book by Dr. Hafty (I just ordered my copy) in detail - but at first glance that book seems a little more verbose and thicker (will not fit in white-coat) - whereas most of the info in Hansen is in outline format.

Comprehensive, concise, but not in depth

This is very useful pocket handbook for just about every radiation oncology trainee out there. It clearly presents management recommendations for everyday malignancies, and then follows that up with a three to four line summary of each of the pivotal papers. Its only weakness is a lack of critical appraisal of the evidence it cites, but then again, if you only rely on this handbook and don't read the evidence yourself, you're not studying properly for your exams!

An excellent basis for structuring your study notes around, and for use in everyday clinical practice. Thoroughly recommended.

Right to the bone.

A good book to start with in an overwhelming field of radiation oncology. Most, if not all, of the important radiation-related clinical trials are included. Can't replace a classic textbook, but very high yield.

I cannot thank the author enough! After letting my RT license slip away I had to re-examin to get it back and 18yrs after graduating from x-ray school I used this book along with the other review book that goes with it, and I passed the ARRT test with a higher grade than my first time taking it! Thank you, thank you!

We used this book in our last semester of school. As I read through it, I realized the questions in the book were questions on our tests of the previous 1 1/2 years. These questions are so close to questions on the registry. If I were looking for a good, solid study guide, this would be the one I'd own. Can't go wrong with this one.

This book is perfect for ARRT test prep. Make sure you get the book with the internet access. With the internet, you get to do all the practice tests you need to prepare for the ARRT boards. There are quite a few questions in the book and internet that are verbatim.

I haven't taken the registry exam yet, but for those looking for a good book to review, I recommend this one. I haven't made it through the whole book yet, but there are a lot of questions with such detailed explainations for every section. The questions are difficult, but I have been told by numerous people that these questions are harder than that of the actual ARRT exam. There are questions designated to each section, way more than what the real test will be, but the end of the book contains 2 practice tests combining all of the sections. VERY HELPFUL!

With this book comes free access to an online testing web site. This online, create-your-own exam feature is what got me through the registry test. It allows you to select any number of questions (there are more than 1,400!), from any of the 5 main categories (and the myriad sub-categories), those you've already seen or not seen, or to use only the ones you've previously gotten wrong. And you can use the web site as many times as you need to during your allotted access time (details with the book.) The author was very responsive to my questions when I needed clarification, and there's a link right on the web site making it easy to ask.

Unlike other test-prep resources I've seen, the questions are equal to or HARDER than those on the registry exam! The service tracks your averages in each of the five categories, and reports results for an individual exam upon completion as well as your cumulative average. You can interrupt taking an exam and resume it at another time. And, speaking of time, your test results also include how long it took you to complete your custom-made exam, as well as the average number of seconds per question. The registry exam is timed, so knowing your time in advance can help you focus where you need to.

I could go on, but you've got the picture by now: I can't say enough about the positive contribution this resource made to my success!

It lived up to it's title "Radiography PREP". This book together with the Lange Q&A - Radiography Examination were the only books I needed...now I'm a Registered RT.

The best basic radiology reference I've encountered for those of us who aren't regularly interpreting Xrays but need to have a systematic approach that will work for us when we need it. It provides a guide for analyzing an X-ray in a step-by-step fashion and gives relevant pointers regarding subtle findings that you don't want to miss and common pitfalls. Contains lots of useful (and clearly reproduced) sample Xrays.

Excellent content and organisation with high quality pictures. Useful size to carry to work and will no doubt make an A&E term or beginning of radiology training much easier. I particularly liked the summary at the end of each chapter for take-home points.
Obviously not the most in-depth reference but at this size and price it is an excellent supplement to a larger text. Not too sure how I survived a year of A&E without it...!

I'm a sonographer in a general ultrasound department of a hospital, graduated last year. I was looking through Amazon's list of general resource books for ultrasound, and took a chance on this one. VERY glad I did! This is a great book to keep around in the department, or even to study from. Great images, extensive topic coverage, and well laid out. I would recommend it to anyone in a similar position, no matter the experience. Not much in the way of neonatal ultrasounds, and I wish there was more on vascular, but it really does a great job with Abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, etc.

I'm a 1st year radiology resident. This book is a good balance between time spent and knowledge obtained for a busy resident. Totally recommended as a first read before entering U/S rotation. However, coverage of vascular ultrasonography is minimal- so after mastering this your next logical step would be Zwiebel's book. Introduction to Vascular Ultrasonography(Fifth Edition)

I found myself reading this book when I had some free time at work, before I bought my own. It covers Abdomen and OB-GYN, so you dont need another book. For a textbook, its easy to read and the pictures are fantastic, so you know when you see it on your patient. I sold my other text books because I acutally read this one and refer to it. I love this book!!!

Feigenbaum is deservably respected as one of the foremost authors on the subject of echocardiology. While this is a college textbook covering quite technical content, the author presents the material in a clear and concise manner. I ordered this textbook because I had all but given up trying to understand my course selected textbook written by Catherine M. Otto, MD., that covers most of the same materials.

echocardiography at its finest

Review Date: 2005-07-09
As a student echocardiographer learning the pathology of cardiovascular diseases, I have both this edition and one earlier. This is well worth the upgrade in price. It has 1 second loops of most of the many possible pathologies found in echocardiographic studies. Though I have looked at the clips several times, installation was initially a short-lived problem. This new edition is a complete overhaul as described by Feigenbaum. He admits that he is not the sole author but Armstrong and Ryan are the primarys on this edition. This book's attention to clinical detail makes it a must in my book when considering Echo books. Having a resource to give you a moving example of cardio pathology can only enhance one's understanding.

Wonderful book , very well written , very well organised based on disease affecting a particular organ with pattern analysis & at the end of each section there is a summary picture thats very good.I have not read a book so well written & organised. I think publishers must be taking a note of that they need to have similar books in different subspecialities. The pictures are big , very high quality & have all the imaging studies combined pertaining to a disease entity. One single book covers everything. Outstanding contrubution to radiology litreture.

Why can't all radiology books be written like this. I just wish that authors in other fields of radiology can write books like this. This book tells you what you need to know and not how much the author can write about a subject. It's good for anybody from resident to practicing radiologist. If you read MSK MRI, you have to get this book.

Great MSK MRI book

Review Date: 2004-08-19
This is an excellent book for the following reasons:
-Size of text. This is the perfect size for an introductory text for a resident rotation. Small enough to throw in your backpack.
-Cost. On par with the Requisite series.
-Concise presentation. The text is easily readable for someone who has experience with plain film MSK, and takes time to explain the relevant anatomy when it's important. It goes over the most important topics over each major joint, leaving out the more obscure topics for the larger textbooks.
-Illustrations and images. Illustration are simple black-and-white drawings, which are much more effective than some texts that borrow illustrations, which are often way too busy (poor illustrations of the relevant anatomy). The images range in quality from OK to excellent, but shows normal first and pathology second for comparision. The images are liberally labelled with arrows denoting pathology and normal anatomic structures, which is a mark of an excellent text. I detest texts who present images without pointing out the findings. It's lazy, unhelpful, and sometimes you can't figure out just what the abnormality is! Tree-in-bud? Crazy paving? Pencil-in-cup? Radiology is filled with signs and descriptions, some of which are ridiculously or poorly named. Unfortunately your stuck learning them, and nothing is more infuriating than reading through a topic like arthritis with unmarked images showing subtle findings like "erosions" without clearly illustrated images.

This book is worth the asking price. MSK MRI is a rotation most residents don't receive until their 3rd/4th year, and it's the quickest way to hit the ground running.
