A co-worker brought this book into work one day and we all had a good laugh. I ordered it shortly after reading it. Everybody I have showed it to has laughed hard and really enjoy it. Several people asked where I got it and plan to order their own copies.

I just got this book as a present, for my baby shower. I hope I never need to use it, but it has really cool information in it. Like, all the stuff about ear infections, which every kid I know seems to get. And the best thing is, it looks like you can find everything really easy in it. Like, you don't have to spend hours going through the index.

Really good book

I'm buying this as a gift for all of my friends who are expecting. It will take them through infancy to teens and beyond--the info in here is applicable to adults as well. It's just such as nice, easy to read book, chock full of great info. It covers everything from a simple scrape to the real serious stuff.

Great comprehensive book

I've been looking for a first aid book to keep in the house, but the others that I've seen are either too skimpy on the information, or make you wade through pages of medical jargon until you can find what you're looking for. The one is concise, easy to read, lets you find exactly what you're looking for, and full of good information. I highly recommend it.

Owners Manual for Junior

Did you get an owners manual for your baby before you left the hospital? No? How come? Even your toaster comes with a little booklet, that tells you not to use it in the bathtub. Surely a child is more complicated and deserves a bit of an explanation.

A Parent's Guide to First Aid is the first part of that missing manual. You still have to figure out how to pay for college, but this book can help you make sure junior lives long enough to make it there. It helps you tell the difference between a scrape that requires a little TLC, and those hopefully rare times when a trip to the emergency room is in order.

If you are like me, you don't read the manual except as a last resort. This book takes that into consideration, by making it easy to zero in on the information you need in an emergency, with the contents organized by problem, and easy to follow instructions and illustrations.

Perhaps the best part of the book are "Tips for Prevention," which might cause you to read the book before you need it. With a little luck and advance care, the knowledge you gain just might help you and junior to dodge any real emergencies.

I don't have children myself, but I give this book to friends who do. As an outsider I see the frantic search for answers when things go a little awry. I know I would be in a complete panic too.

Do yourself a favor and get this book, or give it to somebody who has children. One less trip to the emergency room will make the book worth it. And who knows, perhaps the knowledge you gain will save a life.

Invaluable Resource for Parents

Review Date: 2005-01-29
If you're like most parents in their late thirties and forties and its been more than 20 years since you've done any math, this book is an invaluable resource when you child asks you for help with his or her homework. For example, do you remember how to solve a problem with negative exponents? If not, get out the book and look up "Exponent" under "E," and there will be a simple explanation. Thank you Brita Immergut!!!

A good little math DICTIONARY

Review Date: 2007-03-03
I thought that this book would give strategies on how to help my child excel in math. It definitely is not what I'd imagined.

In actuality, it is a math dictionary. It is written simply and concisely and is pretty easy to understand. The book even includes some practice exercises. It's a wonderful book to review forgotten math terms and simple concepts. However, it was missing two definitions that I needed help with: array (what on earth is it and what is it for?) and canceling (in fraction multiplication or division). A little coverage on Roman numerals would have been very nice, too.

It definitely wasn't what I expected from the title. Most of all, I really wanted some help on showing my child how to multiply numbers with multiple digits..I thought that this book would take a linear math explanation approach with handy hints and tips to make basic math basics easier. I was quite disappointed in that regard.

Brita Immergut makes math fun! And accessible. There's not much more to say. Except that her publicist should be out trying to book her on every day time talk show in America. She's turned something difficult into something that seamlessly draws kids and parents closer together, and make them smarter in the process. The author deserves a platform and, even more, the huge audience of families who want to learn together. Buy this if you don't just want to work with your kids on math but want quality time together.

I found the work done by the author to be of excellent quality. The underlying educational structure, supported by the referenced material, outlined with creative artistry makes this text number one on any proffessor's list.
It will make the students comprehension of sometimes difficult concepts more then bearable. They will have a confidance gained by knowledge built, that will allow care to be adminstered in a compitant manner. I wish more text's were able to accomplish what this author did.

One of a kind

In general, textbooks for EMTs and paramedics tend not to give women and their special issues a lot of ink. Obstetrical and gynecological texts for physicians and nurses aren't usually applicable to first responders. Essentials of Prehospital Maternity Care is evidently the only book, in print or out, that fills this large void. Fortunately, it's excellent, full of current information, useful illustrations, and clear procedures. The author's background as a paramedic and an Ivy League-educated midwife gives her valuable insights into the subjects she writes about. Although this book is obviously designed for classroom instruction, it doesn't read like a textbook. The author's style makes even difficult material interesting enough to hold the attention of independent students at any level of expertise. Parents-to-be could also learn a great deal from it, no matter whether they expect to deliver at home.

EXTREMELY EDUCATIONAL READING MATERIAL
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-02
I run a group home for young men. I bought a copy of this book and after reading it, I went out and bought 5 more copies.

This is an extremely informative and educational book for teens, adults, gays or straight people. I strongly believe that anyone who reads this book will benefit greatly from it. This book has hundreds of answers to questions about the AIDS virus, how it's spread and prevention. It includes touching interviews with people who are infected. It's a real eye opener that provides facts. The book is well written and easy to understand.

The young men in my group home have commented about what a SUPERB and EDUCATIONAL book this is. They like that the book is geared towards people of all ages, sex, race and economical backgrounds. Too bad this book isn't in schools.

I strongly recommend reading this book and passing it on to your children, family members and friends. It is worth reading and after gaining this type of knowledge, might help save lives.

It was definately worth 5 points and more......

PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS & REALISTIC PSYCHOLOGICAL ADVICE
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1998-09-07
This book is written directly to the point with intelligence and wit, yet it is a comprehensive and sophisticated treatment of the worrisome topic. There is obviously much thoughtful experience serving as the background for the practical advice offered to parents. The discussion of various types of homework problems and the inclusive approach for remediation are particularly good.
