This is the definitive work on the most dangerous condition in pregnancy. It affects about 5% of pregnancies and, whilst rare in western countries, is still the largest cause of maternal death. It is also known as toxaemia, hypertension in pregnancy or pregnancy induced hypertension (tho hypertension - high blood pressure - is only one symptom)

This book explains everything there is to know, and all the theories about the causes (the cause of preeclampsia is still unknown - it is called sometimes 'the disease of theories'.

There is sound medical information by a leading expert in the field, and the stories of several women who have had the disease.

If you are interested in this disease, try everything to get hold of this book.

What a life line!

After suffering a sudden and severe bout of pre-eclampsia and then losing our small child to it as a direct result, we wanted to know more about the condition.

This book was the most useful and informative reference guide. We would recommend it to everybody who is in a similar situation. It would also be fantastic for family members so that they can also understand what's going on.

Very Informative-

This book is wonderful. As someone who has suffered from pre-eclampsia, this explains what is known and what the different symptoms are to this complex problem in some pregnancies. The cause is unknown, personally for me it helped to explain, what the symptoms were and to help me better understand what happened to me and that there wasn't anything that I could have done differently. This book is great and I reccomend it for anyone who has suffered from Pre-eclampsia, or for the family of someone who has suffered from this. I have a beautiful daughter and I am thankful for that, but some aren't so lucky! This lets you know what the danger signs are etc. I wish it was still in print!

As a student midwife, I was looking for the latest information regarding preeclampsia. This CD-Rom does not have any articles on it (as far as I can see) but just directs you to various web sites (mainly US govt sites). I can access better information using the databases and on-line journals that are available through Uni.

This article categorically is not worth the $6 it cost to view it. There's a paucity of information, and the one bit of information I was hoping to see- lab values- was conspicuously absent. Any interested person would be better served by reading the NIH's Working Group Report on Hypertension in Pregnancy- for free- on the NIH site:
