Coming Home to Nature

Hello...

This book gave me the insights I needed when I was in tremendous pain and fear because of a dental crisis. I hadn't been to a dentist in 20 years, and because of this book, I was able to avoid them long enough to gain the strategic insight so I would not just be another casualty of a society which forgets its origin in Nature. Coming home to Nature has been fulfilling on such a primal level. I feel more of who I am as a physical being on this plane. All my life, I've watched the follies of Western Medicine, along with the good deeds, and have been surprised at the disparities. Diet & Core Beliefs are my first priorities when any physical ailment arises. Addressing them effectively has ALWAYS given me the results I've desired.

Comprehensive, 'tried and tested'.....

This book is written honestly, simply and in a very easy to comprehend manner. The Author has actually 'tried and tested' what he advocates in this book. It clearly states that curing tooth decay is possible contrary to mainstream thinking. It looks at the value of good nutrition, and how modern day living has attributed to a decline in tooth health.

I've always known deep down that teeth can heal naturally.
When my own daughter began having dental issues, I went on
a mission! Already been down that path, and being very
scarred from the dental experiences I endured, I knew I couldn't
put my child through it. I found Dr. Weston Price's research
and my instincts told me this was it! Ramiel has now written
a book, drawn from Price's findings, but specifically directed at restoring dental health. The result is a very comprehensive
book that lays it all out. He is honest. And the truth is
an incredible eye-opener! The protocol works. Get this book,
especially if you have children.

Rami Nagel is an "ordinary mortal" who has, by virtue of necessity and courage to dare - and the remarkable archive of anthropological-medical data created by Dr. Weston Price achieved an extraordinary goal - arresting and reversing what most people and practitioners routinely believe to be an inevitable degeneration in dental health

He has come at his subject with all the doubts, hopes and vulnerabilities of a layman whose inner quest will not allow him to be satisfied with the pathological state of affairs that modern medicine takes to be "normal". It is normal in the truest sense of the word - meaning, the condition of the majority, the mean, the present state of things. But normal is not necessarily natural, and the quest for the natural is clearly what inspired both Weston Price and Rami Nagel.

While there are many ways of providing the essential elements required for the job, Nagel chooses to model his approach on that of Dr. Price, who did decades of detailed study and analysis which few now would care to undertake.

However, other - not incompatible - paths exist, such as the very promising potential of modulating the pH acid-alkaline balance in the bloodstream, a pre-condition which is pivotal in virtually all other and later developments in human physiology. One brief example will do: it is necessary for the salivary pH to be at least 6.5 in order for new enamel to be formed.

Even if all other conditions are ideal, and this is not the case, the desired results may not occur. Ideally, "primal" nutrition would create such a condition, but years - perhaps decades - of extreme imbalance (even on well-intended diets), but experience shows that, at least initially, more aggressive measures may often be needed to rectify the all-important fluid state of the body.

Nagel's book is admirable for its honesty, clarity and inspirational power, and deserves to be taken as the deeply valuable resource which it is, collating hundreds of pages of clinical research and distilling it into user-friendly form for impatient contemporary readers and needers.

The advice in this book really works.

About a month ago I noticed that my enamel was stripping off. I don't believe this was typical enamel erosion. I don't eat citrus fruits or drink soda, don't have gerd or acid reflux, and I'm not bulemic. I have patches and dull strips where there used to be shiny enamel. I bought this book and changed my diet immediately. Within a few weeks the stripping of the enamel stopped. And all of a sudden in a matter of days, I started noticing vast improvements in the surface of my teeth. I read that tooth structure is lattice like, and it really is. You can really see it! For a couple of days, I actually watched it re-knit, and some of the patches have shrunk, by refilling with shiny enamel. I cheated on my birthday and the progress slowed for several days and I didn't notice daily improvements. I am just starting to see them again. There will be no more cheating. I don't want to slow this down.

My daughter just started getting her permanent teeth this spring and they don't have any shine to them at all. She is also getting some enamel finally. Hers doesn't have the appearance of lattice, yet. She is just now getting her first vertical lines. If I could capture this, I'd probably just post the pictures online for the whole world to see that dentists are wrong! Everywhere you read online, "enamel does not grow back..." But, it does. I don't think this is just the enamel "like" glassy coating that Rami refers to. I really believe this is actual enamel re-knitting.

My husband is getting improvements in his teeth as well. A couple of his molars appeared to have black decay in them, and the blackness is fading away.

A bonus from this diet, is that I am finally starting to absorb my nutrients. Both myself and my daughter suffer from deficiencies caused by malabsorption. We are both doing better. And the proof for me, besides my teeth healing, is that my prematurely gray hair is reversing. Premature gray hair is caused by a lack of minerals. So, I must be absorbing some finally.

This book shows you how important proper nutrition is, not just for teeth but for all health. The teeth are not just for eating. They are not unnecessary and expendible. They are keys to your health. They can tell you when something is wrong in your body. Dentures can't do that. If you have cavities, or enamel issues, it's not just a "dental" issue. It's a HEALTH issue. And fillings are just a bandaid. You MUST take responsibility and take control of your health. Only YOU can do that. No doctor or dentist can do that for you. It is hard work. Change is not easy, and not always fun. But it is SO WORTH the effort. Not only will you feel better physically because you're getting proper nutrition, you will feel good knowing that YOU did this for yourself. No bandaids, no magic pills.

I also recommend Sally Fallon's, Nourishing Traditions book along with your purchase of Ramiel Nagel's, Cure Tooth Decay. Her book will help you keep with the guidelines that Rami suggests in this book.

I just want to add a thank you to Rami for his hard work and dedication to writing this book.

I have used this book since 1992, both as a student and as a provider. My past editions have been well thumbed through and open imediately to the charts I used most. It is invaluable in the decision making process of changing pills or starting OCPs. The ability to safely manage side effects and fine tune women's health is found in this book. I highly recommend this to the student and experienced practitioner. Well worth the money, many times over. Not sure I would want it in a PDA format.

I am a dentist and believe that this book has useful information for anyone interested in restoring and preserving their dental health. This book is aimed at the person who is apprehensive about going to the dentist. Based on the premise that most fear is of the unknown, Dr. Mac Lee, Joleen Jackson and Vicki Audette have written this book with the aim of demystifying dentistry.

Speaking personally, I know that sometimes I struggle to explain things that to me make perfect sense in a nontechnical, nonthreatening manner. This book does that.

It starts by discussing common reasons people are afraid to go to the dentist and tries to help get you past those fears. Whether you are afraid it'll hurt, or your embarassed for us to see your teeth, Dr. Lee gives tips on how to get past these feelings so that you can get the dental care you need.

The book goes on to describe various dental procedures, what is involved in them, and questions you should ask. I especially like the section on children's dental needs. It covers every age range and answers common questions about subjects such as baby teeth, braces, and broken teeth.

I can't tell you how strongly I feel that this is a great book for any dental consumer. I am ordering copies for several of my patients as well as copies to donate to our local library.

Tells it like it should be....

As a general dentist, I see many of my new patients struggling with the issues that are covered in "Nothin' Personal Doc, But I Hate Dentists!" Mac and Joleen have many combined years of experience in the dental field and they have taken this expertise and transformed it into "English" for the patient to be able to understand easily, instead of "Dental-ese" which we are often guilty of using when speaking to our patients.

This book allows patients to make informed choices and to give them an idea as to what they should ask their dentist during the visit. A well-educated, talented and confident dentist welcomes any patient questions. We know that the better informed our patients are, the better choices they can make for themselves regarding their dental health.

This book is a milestone in bridging the gap between dentists and their patients. I give it to all my new patients and encourage them to spread the word to everyone they know. Mac and Joleen have helped not only the general public, but also the dental community with the publication of their informative book. I recommend it for anyone who has a dental visit coming up, or if you are looking for a new dentist! (which, together, SHOULD make up 100% of the population)

After reading this book I threw away my Colgate toothpaste and Listerine mouthwash, replacing them both with the Closys brand from Wallgreens. And the sores in my mouth disappeared! The book doesn't mention any of these brands specifically, but it tells you how to read the labels to select products that won't harm you. The book is a short, easy read that lets you know more than most dentists seem to know about how to keep your mouth in perfect condition.

The connection between dental health and several infectious diseases, plus heart attacks and strokes, is still not commonly known. Dr. Bonner's book clearly and accurately makes the case, as well as providing the remedies for those and various dental conditions. Dr. Bonner doesn't hesitate to list products and techniques he and others have found through years of dental practice to be safe and effective, and many that are neither. It's good seeing so much vital information packed into a compact, easily understood book.

This book takes center stage in our reception and treatment rooms! Instrumental in my clinical practice as a dental hygienist are the very points made in this ground breaking and prevention oriented guide to oral health. No more will I struggle to explain the connection of the health of the mouth to total body health. My treatment and home oral health recommendations have been aligned with those in this book for over 15 years. And I have witnessed the positive difference with my patients especially when the top 10 nutritionals for oral health are taken and irrigation with the Oxycare 3000 becomes a daily routine. Read it - Study it - and most importantly - Do it! Thank you Drs. Bonner and Mindell for helping us learn how we can improve oral health, practitioners and people alike!

Chapters provide recommendations for a simple, daily antibacterial program to support the body's natural healing, an eight-point test to determine if one has gum disease, advice for preventing pregnancy gingivitis, straight talk on why brushing and flossing alone may not be enough, and much more. I picked up this book at a local writer's conference. Being a single male, I'm not exactly in the book's target audience, but I like to support local authors. I was very pleasantly surprised. Pregnancy and Oral Health offers very useful information in an agreeable, often humerous style. It is not a fear mongering book, nor is is simply a list (ten things you can do to have better breath...). It is a complete work on oral health, and specifically its importance in pregnancy. It passed what I consider the ultimate test for a "self help" book - it convinced me to change my habits for the better. I'm buying a copy for every woman I know who is thinking about having children.

The link between oral health and pregnancy outcomes has become an important focus in the women's health community over the past decade. It is clear that poor oral hygiene and a lack of oral health may contribute to morbidity during the childbearing year. With her book, Pregnancy and Oral Health, Sheila Wolf offers those interested in optimizing their health a valuable tool. This book is accessible, informative and motivating and clearly outlines simple behaviors that will improve one's oral health. As a nurse-midwife serving women throughout their life span, I found this book's content as pertinent to providers of obstetric care as it is to our clients.

Book saved my gums, my teeth, and maybe even my life

Review Date: 2004-06-23
Mama Gums and her immensely readable book most certainly saved my gums, my teeth, and maybe even my life. This entertaining book and its essential oral-care techniques are for everyone -- men and women, boys and girls, pregnant and non-pregnant, and especially dental professionals (who need to read it the most).

Sheila's book has all the information your dental professionals should give you but don't. Believe me, I speak from experience! After years of conscientiously soliciting and scrupulously following the "brush, floss, and regular professional cleanings" advice of my general dentist and first periodontist, I was rewarded with war-zone style bleeding gums at every cleaning, deep periodontal pockets, receding gums, and significant bone loss. My first periodontist told me my only alternative was extensive gum surgery. The periodontist whose second opinion I sought wanted to do even more extensive gum surgery. Yikes, yikes, and double yikes! I was paralyzed with fear.

My friend introduced me to Sheila via telephone and loaned me a copy of her warm, witty, and scientifically sound but completely understandable book. I read Sheila's book cover to cover and immediately began following her oral-care regimen. I also ordered several more copies for my friends, my family, and myself.

This week, I had the best dental checkup of my life -- no bleeding, no tartar buildup, significantly reduced periodontal pockets, tight healthy gum tissue, and one very happy camper. Sheila's book and my willingness to follow it made all the difference, taking me from oral-health hell to oral-health heaven in less than six months.

You literally can't live without this book, so buy it, follow it, and enjoy the results. You, too, will thank Mama Gums.

I cannot express how much this book has helped me understand what's going on in my family. A lot of arguments in my family center around who said what, how they said it, and why they said it. And Tannen provides almost all of the tools necessary for us to even think about reconciling.

This really is an enlightening book. What it does do, is explain what goes on in a particular aspect of any family - she explains how family arguments and conversations work, why some things are said but other left unsaid, and provides some suggestions and advice for going back and fixing some of those misunderstandings. She provides a really comprehensive overview of whole family setups, organizations, and tons of possible situations.

She doesn't say "here's how to fix your problems - they shall all be solved". She can't - she's not your own psychologist. But there is so much information to work with, that for a majority of families this will definitely provide a really good and solid basis for reconciling, and even allowing family members to start talking to each other civily again.

Tannen has done tons of research, and provides many examples from all types of families throughout the whole book - grandparents, partners, families with children, families without children, cross-culture families, etc.. I do have to completely agree with another reader that the examples Tannen gives could have been plucked straight from my life. I found one line in particular that could actually explain away years of misunderstanding between two whole branches of my family, myself included. It's also a very fast read - I read it through in just a few days, and I'm a slow reader.

If anyone in your family is even remotely having difficulties talking to others in your family, you should buy this book. I can't tell you how much it's helped me already. Had to buy two more copies of the book for other family members to "borrow".

This makes a mother stop and isten to herself when she is talking to her adult daughter. Why does the daughter not like to visit her? Well, in this book may be the answer, the way the mother talks to her grown daughter. The book should go both ways in helping the daughter learn how to talk to her mother, who is wanting a close relationship to her grown daughter now. This is a very good book, one that can help people grow in their communications with each other.

The book opens by summarising head and neck and then oral anatomy before moving onto the main subject of tooth morphology. It then has chapters on eruption, occlusion, dental abnormalities, operative and forensic dentistry. It seems mainly tailored to the pre-clinical student but also provides lots of information about the clinical relevance of anatomy. It also contains many practical exercises that would be of use to a clinical student, like a guide to extra-oral palpation. The bulk of the book (5 chapters on tooth morphology) contains if anything too much information, leaving the reader rather overloaded with facts. It handles the examination of extracted teeth in a logical fashion and would be useful in practical lab sessions. It also contains quizzes and tear-out sheets about tooth morphology. The other chapters in the book make for good introductions to the various subjects, with some excellent diagrams, but do not really cover the depth of knowledge required (e.g. about head and neck anatomy). However, a textbook that summarises many different subjects is certainly a more cost-effective buy than getting 7 or 8 more complete texts. Parts of the book are genuinely interesting. The chapter on dental abnormalities contains the case of a dental exchange student with 23 upper teeth, including 13 molars. Also the chapter on forensics gives an insight into something not normally discussed on the BDS course. In general, quite a good pre-clinical textbook ideal for a student interested in tooth morphology.

This is not only a recommended text, but also virtually a "must have" for every GP! It works perfectly for both, theory and practice. It works greatly for a student as well.

Excellent book featuring:

* "picturesque" explaining (almost like a comic book), no clinical photography present though

* step by step instructions how to do it, with every material, bur or other used instrument explained in detail. Detail is what is great about this book - you can reconstruct every phase of the procedure to the last detail.

* fluidly written and easily understandable emphasizing the practice with all theoretical knowledge needed provided

Overall it is a great book for students which want to get a general knowledge about practice and theory of fixed prosthodontics in dentistry. Great beginners and advanced user book. (My mother who is a specialist of prosthodontic find it useful after years and years of practice). Only complaint - there were not any real clinical cases and clinical photography.

This is the most significant and accessable guide to healthful living I've ever stumbled across. Not only does Ms. Goodman share her personal experience in engrossing and witty style, she has thoroughly reseached her subject, providing her reader with a wealth of practical information. This book is not only for the dentally-challenged, it is for every person you know: a guidebook to the most basic (and least expensive) preventative health care obtainable. This is the book your doctor doesn't want you to read because it lets you know he's nowhere nearly as important as your dentist!

You exercise everyday, running at least 40 miles a week. You eat healthily, staying away from fast food. You don't even drink alcohol that often, preferring to enjoy a sip or two on social occasions. Yet, one day you get pains in your chest, you have shortness of breath, and as you're rushed to the hospital your worst fears are confirmed: you just had a heart attack. There's no history of heart problems in your family, and you appear to be in perfect health, so you ask the doctor how this could have happened. The answer stuns you: bacteria in your bloodstream triggered your liver to produce a protein creating fatty deposits that lodged around your heart - and the bacteria came from your diseased gums!

Years ago, this may have sounded like the ruminations of a random quack, but it is now a scientific fact: gum disease is a leading cause of heart attacks. In fact, it is now the second leading risk factor for them, behind only smoking. Got Teeth? A Survivor's Guide is teeming with educational nuggets just like this, as Saundra Goodman has compiled a veritable encyclopedia of crucial facts and information regarding the importance of dental care. In it, she presents a detailed A-B-C guide to the various diseases and risk factors to look out for, but she also does an admirable job of apprising the reader of the specific steps to take in order to avoid falling victim to them.

For example, the aforementioned protein that causes fatty deposits to lodge around the heart is known as C-reactive protein (CRP). Given how expensive health care is these days, you may think that a test to diagnose the levels of CRP in your body would cost upwards in the thousands - but, as Goodman informs, even for the uninsured the test costs around $60. An unbeatable price to pay for the sake of knowing that your health is secure from a silent killer you would never have known had invaded your body.

Also, for all the old-school die-hards who think that brushing your teeth or washing your mouth out with baking soda solution will help clean your teeth and rid your mouth of unwanted bacteria, you may be surprised to learn that baking soda is actually very abrasive and can ruin the enamel on your teeth - so don't be surprised if the cavities keeping popping up despite how much Arm & Hammer you're using.

To help highlight the evolution of dental care, Goodman even provides detailed accounts of different cultures throughout history, such as the Chinese, Romans, and Phoenicians, and their various approaches to toothcare. One may be surprised to learn that the Chinese are credited with inventing the modern bristle toothbrush in the 1490's due to their belief in "toothworms" that infest the mouth. It may also be just as surprising to discover that, in order to secure a steady supply of healthy teeth for study, ancient dentists often obtained them - for a price - from soldiers that plucked them out of the mouths of fallen combatants on the battlefield.

Of course, what you may find most surprising of all is the fact that Paul Revere himself, instead of his storied midnight ride to Lexington, is actually best known as the forefather of one of the tactics employed in a random episode of CSI...

Closing out with her own personal story of triumph over the woes of dental despair, Got Teeth? is a delightful and informative read that you will find crucial not only to your dental health, but your greater health overall. Your body will thank you for it.

After reading this book I thanked my lucky stars that I have always had ethical and caring dentists working on my mouth. Saundra details her journey through periodontal disease and apathetic dental caregivers that eventually ends in her losing half her teeth and needing to wear a denture.

This book is full of helpful tips, information on the mouth/body connection, and interesting history on the origins of modern dentistry. I would recommend this book especially to anyone that has ever had bleeding gums, unexplained bad breath, or a history of dental problems. This could be a wonderful resource to answer questions and avoid unnecessary pain of upcoming dental surgery and recuperation.

Most of us have been taught about the care of our teeth by a dental professional. In reading, Got Teeth? A Survivor's Guide, I quickly realized there is a lot we may not have been told.

Author Saundra Goodman covers a topic most people would rather ignore and yet, mustn't. For anyone interested in learning what you can do to save your teeth, this book is a must read. For those who want to know what to do when you have been told you will need dentures, this book is one you absolutely must have.

The author makes it clear she is not a dental professional, but rather an expert based on her own personal experiences as a patient who went through the heartache, pain and frustration of losing her teeth. Join her in a personal journey of frustration, anger, denial, laughter and acceptance that you will remember for a long time.

Saundra Goodman offers incredible insights into what the experience of needing dentures is like and how, in some cases, it can be avoided. She also covers other areas of health risks that poor oral hygiene impacts that many people know nothing about. There is more information in this one book then you could find with years of your own research.

If you value your teeth; want to keep them as long as possible; have gotten or will be getting dentures, order Got Teeth? A Survivor's Guide immediately. You will be glad you did.
