My daughter was diagnosed with Wilms (kidney) cancer 14 months ago. This book was given to me several days after her initial diagnosis and I turned to it many, many times over the long journey to recovery. Even today, with my daughter happily in remission, I turn to it for help in dealing with late side effects and the emotional consequences of the rollercoaster that is childhood cancer. Of all the books I have read over the past 14 months (and there have been many - I'm an avid reader), this one was absolutely the best. If I could, I would buy up all the copies and give it to every parent of a child with a solid tumor. 05965001495222003-05-22A must haveI am a Pediatric Oncology Nurse that buys these books to give to the newly diagnosised families. All of them have told me that it is a wonderful tool.05965001495552001-10-20It explains allThis book was recommended to me after my daughter was diagnosed with nueroblastoma. It explains it all. The book is broken down by topic (ie radiation and chemotherepy) and also by tumor.
The language used was easy to understand. The book was my map through the world of childhood cancer.05965001495442001-04-03Best resource available about kids with cancer! If you have found yourself catapulted into the nightmare of having a child with cancer, this book will help you to understand much of the journey to come. No matter what stage your child is in treatment...beginning, middle, finished treatment, relapsed, or palliative...this book is an indispensible resource. Personal stories peppered throughout the book help you come to realize that you are not alone in this battle. This book also has a wonderful list of resources to help families through this hard time. Buy one for yourself, family members (especially in-laws!), your child's pediatrician, your child's teacher, and your closest friends so they can have a glimpse into what you and your child are facing and can help you along the way. This book should be given to EVERY parent when they hear those horrible words, "Your child has cancer..."05965001495552000-03-03Childhood Cancer:A Paren't Guide to Solid Tumor CancersCandlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation fully endorses this book and places it on the 'must have resource list' for any parent whose child is diagnosed with any type of solid tumor cancer. This comprehensive guide provides extensive information on the diagnosis, prognosis, procedures, treatment and side effects of neuroblastoma, Wilms Tumor, retinoblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and bone sarcomas. Included is a thorough explanation of the various chemotherapy drugs used in treatment and their common side effects. Detailed information on radiation therapy, surgery and bone marrow transplantation is also included. Additionally, the book provides practical advice to families on related issues such as nutrition, returning to school and the end of treatment. The book addresses the emotional impact that such a cancer diagnosis places upon the child, their family and friends and offers practical insight on how to cope. A comprehensive list of childhood cancer websites, support organizations and additional reading materials is listed at the back of the book. The authors'extensive interviewing of families who have 'walked down this road' offers hope to those whose 'journey' has just begun. This second edition of the most complete parent guide available, features detailed and precise medical information about solid tumor childhood cancers, including neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor, liver tumors, soft tissue sarcomas, and bone sarcomas. In addition, it offers day-to-day practical advice on how to cope with procedures, hospitalization, family and friends, school, social and financial issues, communication, feelings, and, if therapy is not successful, the difficult issues of death and bereavement. Woven among the medical details and the practical advice are the voices of parents and children who have lived with cancer and its treatments. As many parents have already found, advice from "veteran" parents can be a lifeline. Obtaining a basic understanding of topics such as medical terminology, how drugs work, common side effects of chemotherapy, and how to work more effectively with medical personnel can only improve the quality of life for the whole family suffering along with their child. Having parents describe their own emotional ups and downs, how they coped, and how they molded their family life around hospitalizations can be a tremendous comfort. Just knowing that there are other kids on chemotherapy who refuse to eat anything but tacos or who have frequent rages can make one feel less alone. Parents who read this book will encounter medical facts simply explained, advice to ease their daily lives, and tools to be strong advocates for their child. It also contains a personal treatment summary and long-term follow-up guide for your child to keep as a permanent record. 0596500157Childhood Leukemia: A Guide for Families, Friends and Caregivers (3rd Edition)0596500092Childhood Brain & Spinal Cord Tumors: A Guide for Families, Friends & Caregivers1557988722Living With Childhood Cancer : A Practical Guide to Help Families Cope0596528515Childhood Cancer Survivors: A Practical Guide to Your Future (Childhood Cancer Guides)B000C4SZS8Childhood Cancer: A Handbook from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital282801Bone Cancer171141Cancer4656Disorders & Diseases10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books465674General171141Cancer4656Disorders & Diseases10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books713268011General AAS171141Cancer4656Disorders & Diseases10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books298657General10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books713243011General AAS10Health, Mind & Body1000Subjects283155Books14392General14389Pediatrics225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books713432011General AAS14389Pediatrics225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books14183General13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books713413011General AAS13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books172722General20Parenting & Families1000Subjects283155Books713528011General AAS20Parenting & Families1000Subjects283155Books394191011Illustrated394185011Edition (format)388186011Refinements283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books0387954783http://www.amazon.com/Pediatric-Ophthalmology-Strabismus-Kenneth-Wright/dp/0387954783%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0387954783722014http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519KRX7D60L._SL75_.jpg7556http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519KRX7D60L._SL160_.jpg160119http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519KRX7D60L.jpg500371HardcoverKenneth W. I know Drs Spiegel and Wright personally. They do an excellent job of providing an extremely comprehensive text on pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Adam Koenigsberg MD The revision of this classic major reference will continue to outline the latest findings in diagnosing children's eye diseases and their treatment options. The information in this edition will be presented in the same user-friendly format, heavily illustrated in color plates, tables, charts, and decision-making guidelines. This approach will enable the practitioner to make the most accurate diagnosis and choose the most effective treatment option. The highlights of this edition will include the new coverage of surgical treatment options and illustrated surgical techniques. Also, it will cover the most comprehensive list ever published of systematic syndromes associated with ocular anomalies. The most notable breakthroughs in the past 5 years in pediatric ophthalmology are reflected through the field of medical genetics. Therefore each chapter will be completely updated and revised in order to reflect these changes.0387332499Color Atlas of Strabismus Surgery: Strategies and Techniques0781763797Walsh & Hoyt's Clinical Neuro-Ophthalmology: The Essentials (Walsh & Hoyt's Clinical Neuro-Ophthalmology)1556427891Neuro-Ophthalmology Review Manual, Sixth Edition0781743095The The Hospital for Sick Children's Atlas of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus0387279245Handbook of Pediatric Strabismus and Amblyopia0387332499Color Atlas of Strabismus Surgery: Strategies and Techniques3540280693Ophthalmic Microsurgical Suturing Techniques1588296202Retinal Degenerations: Biology, Diagnostics, and Therapeutics (Ophthalmology Research)713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books14030Optometry14018Allied Health Professions13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books14375Ophthalmology225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books14390Emergencies14389Pediatrics225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books14392General14389Pediatrics225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books713432011General AAS14389Pediatrics225827Specialties13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books14183General13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books713413011General AAS13996Medicine1000Subjects283155Books227578Optometry227571Allied Health Professions173514Medical173507Professional & Technical1000Subjects283155Books227697Emergencies227197Pediatrics227203Internal Medicine265542Medicine173514Medical173507Professional & Technical1000Subjects283155Books227196Ophthalmology227199Surgery265542Medicine173514Medical173507Professional & Technical1000Subjects283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books1592480136http://www.amazon.com/Childhood-including-Neuroblastoma-Retinoblastoma-Rhabdomyosarcoma/dp/1592480136%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D15924801364001990http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/619C56EVKQL._SL75_.jpg7575http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/619C56EVKQL._SL160_.jpg160160http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/619C56EVKQL.jpg475475PM Medical Health NewsCD-ROM97815924801354015924801365602500USD$25.00Progressive Management47301Book2002-07-28Progressive ManagementProgressive Management21st Century Complete Medical Guide to Childhood Cancer (including Neuroblastoma, Brain, Bone, Blood Cancers, Retinoblastoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, and others) ... on Diagnosis and Treatment Options105202500USD$25.00100011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewwRSEIKfNAVGqLVyU1ZCU6hsL%2FyY%2FCx%2F1cvaa%2BYkrvmIPEuRaa%2FzYAJkKg2krPIxKT99WLyRXzGS7IGACRqpd%2Fg%3D%3D2500USD$25.00Usually ships in 24 hoursThis up-to-date and comprehensive CD-ROM provides a superb collection of official Federal government documents on childhood cancer: signs and symptoms, diagnosis, lab tests, treatment and management options, and ongoing clinical research. In addition to disease-specific information, there is extensive coverage of the broad subject of cancer and its prevention and treatment along with current cancer research projects.
A unique feature is the inclusion of the results of a database search using the Combined Health Information Database (CHID).
Since navigating the Internet to find additional non-governmental medical information can be confusing and difficult, we've also provided our exclusive "Guide to Leading Medical Websites" with links to 80 of the best sites for general health and medical information! By using weblinks built into the documents reproduced on the CD-ROM, you can quickly and easily check for the latest clinical updates directly from the government.
In all, the disc has over 47,000 pages reproduced using Adobe Acrobat PDF software - allowing direct viewing on Windows and Apple Macintosh systems. Reader software is included on the CD.
Our CD-ROMs are designed to provide a convenient user-friendly reference work, utilizing the benefits of the Acrobat format to uniformly present thousands of pages that can be rapidly reviewed or printed without untold hours of tedious searching and downloading. Using immunoaffinity purification or purified proteins, we show that AHNAK interacts specifically with the DNA ligase IV-XRCC4 complex, a complex that functions in DNA non-homologous end-joining. Furthermore, AHNAK and the DNA ligase IV-XRCC4 complex co-immunoprecipitate demonstrating an in vivo interaction. This interaction is specific and is not observed with other DNA ligases nor with other components of the DNA non-homologous end-joining machinery. We characterised AHNAK as a protein that stimulates the double-stranded (DS) ligation activity of DNA ligase IV-XRCC4. We show that AHNAK has weak DNA-binding activity and forms a stable complex with the DNA ligase IV-XRCC4 complex on DNA. AHNAK is also able to link two DNA molecules to a similar extent to that previously reported for Ku. Together, these findings demonstrate new activities for AHNAK, and raise the possibility that it may function to modulate DNA non-homologous end-joining. 318593011Elsevier583314By Publisher551440eDocs504358Formats251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books1000Subjects1Arts & Photography2Biographies & Memoirs3Business & Investing4Children's Books4366Comics & Graphic Novels5Computers & Internet6Cooking, Food & Wine86Entertainment301889Gay & Lesbian10Health, Mind & Body9History48Home & Garden10777Law17Literature & Fiction13996Medicine18Mystery & Thrillers53Nonfiction290060Outdoors & Nature20Parenting & Families173507Professional & Technical21Reference22Religion & Spirituality23Romance75Science25Science Fiction & Fantasy26Sports28Teens27Travel283155Books699209011HTML618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books
