I thought this book was laugh out loud funny--and it would be fun to hear it read aloud as a book on tape. The drawings of the various glasses at each new chapter were also very funny. It is a pretty fast read--once I had the time to sit down and read it--it only took me a few days..I didn't read it as fast as some shorter books (like it is) because I was trying to savor it. :)

This was a very enjoyable read, even though I'm a contacts girl. I read this in 1 day, it's a quick read because it's so clever. I highly recommend.

Every GWG should read this.

I could not put this book down. It was so funny. I felt like I could relate to every word of it. I wanted to spread the word about this book so I reviewed it for the library newsletter, which I work. I think everyone with glasses should read this. I was almost afraid to read it because I didn't want to be let down. This book exceeded my expectations.

This book is witty, beautifully written, and rings so true! I remember hiding behind a tree watching for my intended victim (boyfriend) peeking out with my glasses on, and when I spotted him, whipping the specs off, stepping out and pretending I had seen him all along. Later came the agony of HARD contact lenses etc., etc. The interesting part of this book is that it can be a wonderful metaphor for anything that makes anyone who is the least bit different (especially teenagers). Oh the suffering! Girls out there, this book is for You! Unless, of course, you were captain of the cheer-leading squad and had mammoth boobs. This girl was the only person who was REALLY happy in high school. Most of the rest of us barely managed to survive.

David's book is a very good one and it is a method (like john method) that CAN give you back your clear and sharp vision, other books just talk only about improvement of vision and to be independent from glasses. The book describes the ocular stretching which I believe to be the basis of any method that you will may choose (add also neck exercise and breathing exercise to it). Then when the muscles of your eyes become stronger you may start the retinal defocus with the plus lens. My advice for anyone who wants to clear their vision is to do the exercises first and then ask if it will work or not. Last december i was prescribed a -2.00 lens to wear full time and with consistent training I can now see 'not perfectly' but i have good visual acuity with a low -0.75D. I am certain that additional improvement is ahead and all depends on my commitment and tenacity. One thing remains to say is "thank you David"

The best Myopic eye natural remedy book so far

This is the best practical book in the market so far for Myopic eye. The use of plus lenses glasses really made a difference.

Their are few excercises which need to carry out on daily basis. Plus if u take multivitamins from GNC which really make difference for better vision.
Low Myopic eye which is less than minus three can even reverse their problem by applying the skills.

I ordered David De Angelis's book, "The Secret of Perfect Vision," as soon as it was announced, and have been following the program now for just about six months now. The "secret" of the "Power Vision System" that David describes in his book is working for me. I will let you in on the "secret". It is threefold:

1. Thorough extraocular muscle stretching/strengthening/range of motion exercises
2. Rest/recovery intervals
3. Retinal defocus training (reading through a slight blur produced by wearing a reduced, or sometimes "opposite" prescription, or so-called "plus" lenses, for low myopes)

Although I was able to pass the driver's exam (twice) since I "threw away" my -1.50 D glasses 15 years ago, my vision still wasn't perfect. Under good indoor conditions I have been able to read the 20/40 line. Today I am reading 20/25 under the same conditions.

Over the years I have been using plus lenses to keep my vision from slipping (I work at the computer all day), sometimes more, sometimes less intensely. In the past I have always reached a point of maximum improvement, where instead of improving with the plus lens, I felt my eyes simply got more tired. So I gave it a rest for a while, coming back to it when I became unsatisfied with my distance vision again. Basically, one step forward, one step back.

With the muscle exercise routine added, it seems more like four steps forward, three steps back. So it still isn't an "instant" cure, but I am noticing overall, gradual progress. My outdoor daytime vision is now excellent; it tests at 20/20 or even 20/15 in bright sunlight.

I feel that extraocular muscle exercises have "unlocked" my eyes, and now the exercises with plus lenses can "open" them up where they weren't able to before.

Although this book is quite long, its value is in the simplicity of the method presented. David spends a lot of time going over the scientific underpinnings of the method, from experiments with monkeys wearing lenses to the principles of exercise physiology. He puts it there, I think, mostly for the people who insist on having "proof." He warns you that there will be good days and bad days; you have to stick on through it. For some people, having a "scientific" explanation will give you the courage do persevere. Others, I must admit, might find the "science" part confusing, but it is really not necessary. For balance, David touches on emotional aspects of vision, which may resonate better for other readers. At the end of the book he has a practical question and answer section and specific very easy-to-follow routines.

And if you still have some questions, David provides a link to the free "PowerVisionForum" web site (full disclosure: I am the moderator) where you can discuss this method (and other methods of vision improvement) and David (or I) will happily answer them there.

Power Vision System...this book deserves the name!

I have read this updated edition of the book and also know the previous version. I recommend it to anyone willing to improve their nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. When I first started doing the exercises described in this book my prescription was -2.25/-2.5. Well, after constantly practicing my vision has improved and now my nearsightedness is -0.50/-0,75...amazing! The same exercises and principles can also be applied for prevention purposes and the author can be contacted for further questions. Highly recommended!

Dr. Schmid has done a really good job collecting all the information available concerning myopia and adding his own opinion to it.
I have read many books about myopia but this is without any doubt the most complete, accurate and most up to date myopia book that is currently available. The knowledege that Dr.Schmid,as a physicist, has about myopia amazed me. This is truly a myopia "bible" and i recommend it to anyone interested in increasing his/her own knowledge about this "epidemic" problem.

I've never seen such a comprehensive resource on myopia that is directed at the consumer. It covers the "what is myopia" in great detail (down to details of saccadic motion, convergence, monochromatic aberration, etc.), then an exhastive analysis of the various theories of causation (genetics, close-work, nutrition, visual habits, brain function, oxidative damage, auto-immunity, personality/psychology, neurotransmitters, melatonin, cortisol and other hormones, and more). There are over a thousand end-note references that back up the information.

In regard to treatment, we get the same careful, exhaustive analysis. Everything from biofeedback devices, plus lens therapy, vision therapy, etc., and the degree of success each appears to offer.

My Aunt just had her eyes done at Long Island Eye Care... her descision was totally influenced by reading this and two other books on eye surgeries. She ended up avoiding Lasik and going with Mike Sable, a master. No scaring or pain, on visible anything 24 hours after the procedure...no dry eye... go to the Jordan of Surgery in your area if you are messing with your eyes. Cut no corners and read and study to inform this most crittical of descisions.

This book gave me all the information that I needed in order to make an educated decision regarding which refractive surgery was right for me. It is written in terms that a regular person can comprehend, which in turn, enabled me to communicate with my own physician more clearly.

I highly recommend this book if you are considering refractive surgery of any kind. You'll be glad you did!

What business are you really in?

Review Date: 2003-05-14
Theodore Levitt was lecturer in Business Administration at the Harvard Business School when this Harvard Business Review Classic was originally published. He now is Professor of Business Administration Emeritus at Harvard Business School.

This article was groundbreaking when it was published originally in 1960. It questions in a new and challenging way by urging organizations to define their industries broadly to take advantage of growth opportunities. "In truth, there is no such thing as a growth industry, I believe. There are only companies organized and operated to create and capitalize on growth opportunities." He discusses the four conditions which are responsible for a self-deceiving cycle of bountiful expansion and undetected decay: (1) increasing population; (2) production pressures; (3) mass production; and (4) dangers of research & development. Each is discussed in detail. During this process, he describes the difference between sales and marketing: "Selling focuses on the needs of the seller, marketing on the needs of the buyer." Levitt use railroads, oil and corner grocery industries to explain his points. The main point he tries to get across is that "the organization must learn to think of itself not a producing goods or services, but as buying customers, as doing the things that will make people want to do business with it." This e-document is complemented with a retrospective commentary by the author, written in 1975.

Fantastic article by Harvard Business School professor Theodore Levitt. It was an eye-opener for many companies in the 1960s and still is the starting point for marketing-courses at business schools. The author claims that most of the ideas within the article are based on works by others, in particular Peter F. Drucker, but of the simple and understandable language and examples the message comes across even better. Yes, perhaps some of the examples are out of date, but the message still rings true. Highly recommended to all MBA-students and people interested in management/marketing. The author uses simple business US-English.

An excellent book detailing myopia research by contributions from some of the professional 'heavy-weights' in the field of Ophthalmology.

The whole notion that one may 'learn' to improve their eyesight (myopia) has often fueled ridicule against such propositions and having decreased my own myopia from -4.0 diopters down to -2.0 (and still improving) by employing techniques mentioned in other related books on the subject of natural vision improvement, I was thrilled to come across such items as:

"Finally, Medina and Fariza (1987,1993) argued that the traditional correction of myopia with negative lenses reintroduces the error that initially simulated it's development, and therefore is likely to accelerate its progression. This conclusion is also compatible with the notion that individual eyes have preferred refractive set-points to which they return after being corrected ... " sec 3.2.1 page 35.

"The rapid development in electronic technology has, in recent years, extended greatly the facility to monitor biological activity and has stimulated and renewed interest in whether the extent to which we can exercise control over nominally involuntary autonomic functions has clinical utility in the treatment of certain psychological and medical disorders. Operant conditioning (or biofeedback) has, however, yet to gain general acceptance in the medical fraternity even though recent work has striven to resolve the methodological limitations of early investigations. Ophthalmic applications of biofeedback have achieved varying levels of success with regard to the correction of occulomotor anomalies .... "The principal aim is to train patients to gain greater control over voluntary accommodation in order to ameloriate functional myopia, although it is claimed that the facility can also be used to treat early presbyopia and latent hyperopia. .... "It is suggested that patients can anticipate improvement of unaided visual acuity to 6/9 or 6/6 with a commensurate reduction in myopia of 2 D to 3 D (Diopters). Of relevance to this chapter is that Trachtman (1987) also speculates that up to 2 D of myopia reduction occurs in the initial stage of training from a relaxation of parasympathetic-induced spasm of accommodation and that subsequent myopia reduction emanates from patient control of sympathetic-induced negative accommodation." Dr. Faruqui takes the reader through a very objective and un-biased analysis of how Pakistani politicians and generals have shaped the lives of its 150 million people, who are largely a silent majority in Pakistan. Dr. Faruqui calls out both the smart moves as well as the mistakes made by personalities in the governments over the years.

I was left wishing that the chapter on Organizational Reform in the Pakistan Military (Ch. 12) was given more depth and detail.

Overall excellent and readable synopsis for catching up on all that has happened in Pakistan to bring it to its current state of affairs. Every Pakistani, young and old, must read this book so they can begin to reclaim their destinies from the hands of army generals and incompetent politicians.
