I purchased My Utmost For His Highest as an appreciation gift for the Church School Staff Members at my church. The Book was very well received and appreciated. Some of the older members were especially pleased with the Large Print. I definitely recommend this product.

I have been an Oswald Chambers follower for many years. I had been reading a tattered copy that belonged to my dad. For my birthday today I got this copy for my birthday and it is so very special. The leather cover is so soft and beautiful. Two shades of purple and liliac. Soft and comfortable to hold.

The dovotions are still current today. They make you look deep within your heart to what God is saying to you.

Highly recommend.

This book has been a profound daily devotional for me for 15 + years. I have read it every year. The insights this man of God had are some of the most relevant, authentic, and remarkable devotions I have ever read. I continue to be amazed.

Oswald Chambers gives the awesome truths of the Bible and God's character in this easy, daily study.

I had been given this journal years ago and have cherished using/reading/journaling in it. Recently i have met someone with whom i knew would enjoy it too...i searched on amazon and there it was! Will most likely purchase more in the future.

I was given this book by and friend, and I have to say, it may be the best gift I've ever been given. I have since purchased several cases, giving it out to many people that I care about. It provides inspiring, comforting and empowering thoughts for one to digest daily. Plus, it's supple leather cover and convenient size make it something for you to carry with you throughout each day. I cannot say enough about the power of this book!

I have been reading God Calling ever since the early 1970's. This book has helped me to know God in a personal way. I have given many copies away as gifts and worn out 3 paperbacks. I just received the Devotinal Journal and will now write in it along with my meditations. Every person I have given God Calling to has found peace, joy and guidance in their spiritual life and thanked me for introducing this timely book to them.

Great short read. Ahead of its time given it was writtem in 1955. Great book for women to help understand there role in life, not so much for men.

What more can be said about this lovely collection of thoughts? Even as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is as fresh as the day it was penned. This book is a keeper if ever there was one, a volume to be read and re-read and handed down to one's children, which is what I intend to do with the most recent Gift from the Sea that I bought.

Listed as a 'summer read' in a local magazine list - I hadn't heard of this book. I picked it up and finished it from one afternoon into the next morning. And -- there was nothing surprising or new to be found here in the book - the pace at which its written and the uncomplicated natural way Lindbergh examines her life and her impressions of life's stages will have me passing this book on to many people in my life.

What timeless wisdom there is in this little book. Although it was written many decades ago, the challenges and issues faced by Anne Morrow Lindbergh are the same ones faced by women in today's crazy, bustling world. In fact, although women in Siberia, Cameroon, or Ceylon might not have her specific set of circumstances, they can still identify with Lindbergh's ponderings about a woman's life, her obligations, her relationships, and her needs. She lived in an upscale suburb of Connecticut and was the mother of five children, and yet there's something in her writing that can touch the souls of women everywhere whether in a grass hut or trailer beside a busy highway

The chapters in Gift from the Sea center on Lindbergh's musings during a two-week vacation at the shore. Leaving husband, children, and house behind, she lives in a bare beach cabin without heat, telephone, plumbing, hot water, rugs, or curtains. She finds simplicity beautiful and longs to take it home to Connecticut when her vacation ends.

Lindbergh takes a shell at a time and describes it in relation to other things in a woman's life. For instance, the moon shell reminds her that quiet time, solitude, contemplation, and "something of one's own" is needed. The double-sunrise represents the pure relationship found in early stages of friendship and marriage, and she reminds the reader that there is no permanent return to an old form of relationship since all are in the process of change. The oyster bed symbolizes the middle years of marriage and family, especially as the home itself grows and expands to accommodate the growing family.

I first read this book when I was a young mother and could readily understand Lindbergh's comment that saints were so rarely married woman because of the distractions inherent in raising children and running a house. "Human relationships with their myriad pulls--woman's normal occupations in general run counter to creative life, or contemplative life, or saintly life." Now in midlife, I can better understand her affinity for all the shells as reminders that each cycle of the wave, the tide, and the relationship is valid.

This book came very highly recommended by two friends who are avid book readers. However I hate to admit that the book did not move me as much as my friends claimed that it moved them. I was more interested about the background references to the author's personal life and how the book came into being. That I would have read voraciously. The book is short but I don't intend to read it again to see what I missed. I believe a book either moves you or it doesn't. This particular book despite other rave reviews did not move me despite my great affinity for the sea and women writers. I wonder if perhaps if the book would have touched me differently if I read it in the beach rather than on a plane which I did.

"In my hands" Irene Gut Opdyke narrates her tribulations during WWII. The saga of atrocities committed by the Nazis is intertwined with echoes not to be indifferent when another person's freedom is in jeopardy. Sharing her story with young life audiences, Irene is inculcating the same imperative: "You can make a difference; you have the power to fight against evil."

As a native of Poland, I find many familiar images in Irene's early surroundings. She comes from a little town close to the German border, so do I. I am inspired by Irene's
tolerance and warming heart, manifested from her early age on. She shunned rampant anti-Semitism and befriended none co-religionists. It my eyes, Irene is a shining example of righteousness. As a little Jewish boy, I was sometimes harassed by Catholic kids, because I was not one of them. The Russian and German invasions into Poland disrupted Irene's life. Despite her own predicament, Irene became very concerned about her Jewish friends' safety. She reached out to help and hide them from deportation to Nazis' killing centers. Many Poles assumed that they will be spared from persecution if they would cooperate with the Germans. Irene believed that once Hitler finished murdering the Jews he will do the same to the Poles. This was not a mere premonition but a keen observation. As it turned out, every Polish Jew was indeed a victim but not every victim was a Jew. Irene became a resistance fighter. For four years, her school years, did Irene risk her own life for the sake of saving innocent Jewish life!

I am a Holocaust survivor who had lost his entire immediate family and 123 members of his extended family. Being incarcerated for three years, my school years, in several forced labor camps, I realize how Irene's hidden Jews were spared from suffering and probable death. Irene did not let a woman in hiding to terminate her pregnancy, despite all possible ominous consequences. Reading about it, I had tears spilling over my cheeks. Irene cherished the sanctity of life. I am at awe; her sacrifice is a symbol of human kindness in a cruel environment. Irene's bravery and compassionate heart are extraordinary. It is indicative that conscientious people might be found in every group or nation. Negative stereotyping and prejudice are senseless!

"In my hands" is a well written narrative of compelling episodes that illustrate the compassion and integrity that the author had been imbued with. Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem recognized Irene's heroism. Her name is inscribed in the Alley of the "Righteous Among the Nations" Her gracious deeds and her literary work will be eternally etched in my memory.

First I listened to the book on audio. I liked it so much I got the book a year later andit it. Amazing story of survival. Hiding right in a Nazi officers home. WOW. What courage.

A must read for those who what to never forget.

Uplifting to what we can and will do for others when we have to.

Whereas the novel I mentioned in my title left me feeling cold (not to mention the author was a small child when she writes about her experiences, which must be grainy), this powerful account is simply written, but also written well. It's deliciously descriptive and emotional. I felt like I did walk in Irene's shoes, for I saw everything through her eyes (true, it was written in first-person point-of-view), instead of like watching a movie.

By the way, I think this would make a great film, though I am not sure if there is an actress beautiful enough to play Irene (who really should be played by a young, unknown girl, age appropriate, not a trashy pop starlet, who would degrade).

Through it all (being raped by two Russian soldiers and left for dead, becoming a German officer's mistress to protect her Jewish friends, etc.), Irene maintains an innocence that is refreshing, and when she loses her first truelove before they have a chance to marry, it broke my heart.

I will say I have an even dimmer view of the Catholic Church than I did before (not Catholics in general, just some of the politics of the religion), because when Irene goes to a priest to confess being a German's lover to save the lives of her friends, he says, "They are Jews", and I could actually hear the inflection in his voice that said, "They're just Jews", like they weren't worth saving. This un-Christlike priest refuses to give her absolution, which, from a doctrinal standpoint I understand, but not from a spiritual standpoint. Yes, Irene was sinning, but she was not committing crimes against humanity, and I believe my God is a merciful and just God and that He understands for He can see Irene's soul.

This deeply religious, courageous woman has earned my respect and her chronicle is hardcover worthy.

My 14-year-old daughter read this book and insisted that I read it. When I finally agreed, I could not put the book down. The story is so well told that you can can truly understand the experience of a 17-year-old girl in the midst of the horrible events. A compelling book that everyone should read and discuss.

I often think of this woman in my day to day life. She serves as a testament to all mankind that we must put others first and fight for the just cause. What she went through herself is quite harrowing. I am happy that she has been honored with a tree planted in her name at Yad Vashem in Israel. An easy read and a book that you cannot put down. She is truly inspirational.

One of the gifts we gave to my daughter and son-in-law for their first anniversary. We take our wedding album out around the time of our anniversary each year and I wish I had this book to record our memories. My daughter loved it. I think it's a perfect gift -- even as part of a wedding gift.

I love this book because there are slots that you can store your most cherished memories - your photos! The pages are beautiful and the box is a very attractive element. A most wonderful and substantial gift for any bride.

This is the second Anniversary Memory Book I'm giving as a gift. Everybody that saw the first one just loved the whole idea of it. It's very nicely done and an item to be cherished.

My mother-in-law gave this book to us when we got married. I LOVE IT! The artwork is simply beautiful, each page different from the others -- with thoughtful quotes as well. But most of all, I just love the whole concept of having an anniversary book! I never even knew something like this existed. But, it has been so wonderful to add our memories to this book each year on our anniversary. I love looking through it -- reading the "Memorable Moments" from that year and seeing the picture we included. We'll be celebrating 10 years this month and I can't wait to open up our special book and review those 10 wonderful years in such a beatifully recorded way. I've given this book as a wedding gift to others because we've enjoyed it so much.

I attended a bridal shower recently and this was a gift that was given to the bride. I thought it was such a cute idea that I decided to order one for my husband and me (ok..so it was more for me than my husband but he feigned excitement).

On the first page of this book is an Apache wedding prayer, which is followed by a space for you to include a wedding picture and details about your wedding. In the following pages, there is a space for you to include a picture (3x5 or 4x6) of the two of you for each year you are married. Opposite the space for the picture, is a place for you to write about where you are living and 'memorable' moments that may have occurred during each year of your marriage. Also included, is information about traditional and modern gifts for each anniversary. There is a space to document every anniversary for the first 15 years and then it jumps to your 20th, 25th, 30th, 40th and then your 50th anniversary.

The book is a little '80s' in terms of styling but I still love it. The pages are made of a fine quality, ivory card stock and every year has its own colorful, pretty design (all of which is in calligraphy).

This would make a great gift for a bridal or wedding shower or for a couple's first wedding anniversary.

First the pros: Becky Fleck does beautiful work, her sketches are detailed and the scrapbook pages pictured are wonderful. She uses a lot of paint in her designs, which I don't. The spiral binding makes it really simple to open it to the page you like and keep it there! There are cards in the back of all the sketches with an example on the back of the card. The idea is that you can carry the cards more easily than the book to a crop or to the craft store to buy supplies. Awesome, right!?

The cons: The biggest con for me is that Becky Fleck mostly does one page designs. Most scrappers I know, myself included, tend to work on two page spreads. So this is a major disappointment for me. And I know the one page sketches can be carried over into a 2 page spread, but I'd rather just see the whole double page spread all sketched out for me. That's why I buy these books! Fleck shows examples of 8 1/2 x 11" layouts with single pages, double pages and pages that have the layout turned to be 11" x 8.5". But I would not have bought it if I'd known it was 80% single page sketches.

But the bright side is that on Amazon.com, the list price is an affordable $14.99 (unlike me, who paid full list price of $24.99 to get it NOW). So it isn't much of a budget breaker. But for me, I wish I'd have spent the money on scrapbooking supplies.

Enjoyed the illustrations in this book. It is an inspiration for scrapbooking ideas. I can see that I will be using it over and over....love the pull out card set in the back. Easy to take along with you to crops! A must buy item!

This book is extemely helpful, easy to follow and even has portability with the punch out cards you take on retreats. Everyone of my friends has had to have their own copy.

This is an excellent resource, for planning scrapbooking LOs the examples are very inspiring. I have already used the page maps several times.

When I have an idea block I flip through these and it gets me off and going again.

For those of you who love to collect great cookbooks, this is an awesome Cuban cookbook. All the recipes invoke memories of Mama and Abuela cooking in the kitchen. They are authentic recipes and the stories are worth reading. Many of them will bring sweet memories to Cuban refugees who have adopted the U.S.A as our new home. This is a must-have book in the kitchen!

This book has great recipes and they are very well written. The instructions are very easy to follow. Very much the same ingredients my Cuban Mother has used all my life.

My husband is from Miami and when i was pregnant he took me to Miami and got me addicted to cuban food. We both really missed the food and this book brings back so many good memories. It really satisfies your taste buds.

After sitting in the bookstore, going over about 10-20 so called Cuban recipe cookbooks, this is the ONE in my kitchen. Both my parents are from Cuba, I was born there as well, so naturally my siblings and I grew up on traditional Cuban recipes. This book is the closest to Mom's cooking I have ever found, and with some help from Mom, these recipes are just like being home. Easy to follow, simple, traditional recipes. Once you get the hang of "sofrito", which is base for most of our dishes, you won't be disappointed. LOVE this cookbook, and its wonderful, savory Cuban dishes!

This book is full of information that has helped our family understand and support our family member who has memory problems.

This book has many useful suggestions and shows a deep understanding of the challenges of caregiving for someone with dementia. It was comforting to read the short descriptions of situations and how to react to them. It made me less irritable with caring for my relative. I plan to get another copy to have available for when I meet other people who face the same issues.

A truly remarkable and instructional guide for care givers of people with dementia or alzheimers. So much of what was going on in my mother's life at this stage, began to make sense to me and I was better prepared to help her. Great book!

An extremely helpful book for those who are experiencing dementia and/or Alzheimer's with a loved one. You are not alone! And all those strange things that are happening are not out of the ordinary for the condition. This book covers the basics, and provides helpful suggestions for living with, caring for, and coping with dementia and your love one.

This is an excellent book. It is written in a warm and caring manner which is easy to understand. It is full of information not just for anyone dealing with a dementia patient, but for anybody who is caring for another person, (or who may think at some point they will). It covers subjects which apply to the caring of anyone who is ill and/or elderly, even if it is not dementia. I would recommend this book to anyone, before they are faced with the illness. I wish I'd read it sooner, but better late than never. Absolutely a great book, it should be in every library. I plan to buy 2 copies for my library, I will definitely NOT donate mine. I can't say enough good things about this book.

I truly believe that there are never any random accidents of fate at work in our lives--everything happens to us for a reason, even if we do not understand why! Reading the inspiring memoir "The Gulf Between Us: A Story of love and Survival in Desert Storm" you cannot help but believe that prayers are truly answered; and that there must be a divine purpose to our lives even if it is not understood at the time of the events. One thing is evident; this book is about the power of faith and love.

The Husband and wife writing team of Cynthia and Col. Cliff Acree have written a duel storyline that is more than just about war--it is a love story. They chronicle the compelling emotions and the events surrounding the Colonel's capture and his time spent as a POW during Desert Strom. It is a triumphant tale of courage from both Cliff and Cynthia as they endure, survive, suffer and embrace once again. They both have this underlining strength and faith that comes through very loud and clear.

No matter what you have read about the experiences of the POWS in Desert Storm there was much more to that story that was left untold --or incorrectly reported. Some of them were subjected to brutal beatings and life threatening treatment. Colonel Acree was subjected to a harsher treatment than others for various reasons, including his strong loyalty and patriotism and the fact that he was a Marine pilot and company commander. He would not give an inch or compromise on his core values and for those reasons he had to endure the brute force of his Iraqi capturers. Truly an American hero!

Equally courageous and inspiring is the corresponding story of Cynthia's experiences, as she has to face all the uncertainties of the situation. Working from a base of great faith and personal strength she takes positive actions and organizes a movement to get world attention focused on the fate of all the POWS and MIAS. Her personal and emotional journey did not come without its own form of pain.

We learn a lot about who the authors were and how they met and became high school friends. The background story gives us a look inside their relationship and what kind of people they were prior to the life changing experiences of the war. I think this adds greatly to the power of their story. These two individual souls seemed destined to become spiritually connected in the very fabric of their lives. This book is more than a war story it is about their own personal spiritual journey. It is a story that will inspire many others and perhaps change a few lives along the way. And maybe, that was one of the divine purposes that the universe had in mind for all that they went through. I know that I was touched by their story on many levels. I am a better person for having read their book.

It is a well-written, easy to follow story. The authors share a huge part of themselves with the reader and that honesty comes through and makes you feel good about them as people. The MWSA gives this book its highest book rating of FIVE STARS. I also add my personal endorsement and recommendations that you buy and read this book.

I found it hard to read much of what Cliff Acree wrote, because he tells us how badly he was treated while he was in captivity. He was tortured; badly beaten, denied food and in so many ways humiliated and ill-treated. Still, he never lost his faith and dignity.

Since Cliff Acree was a higher ranking officer, it was obvious that he was better informed than his fellow prisoners of war. When he refused to share any of this information with his captors, it made Saddam Hussein's men treat him harsher than many others.

Col.Cliff Acree decided he had to lie to Saddam Hussein's men, and that may be a reason he is still alive. If he had kept on refusing to speak, the ill-treatment may even have been worse. Another reason he is alive is: When Saddam Hussein used the captured pilots, as well as members of the SAS and a CBS TV crew as human shields, only two instead of five bombers attacked the building they were kept in. The bombers didn't bomb the part where the cells were sited.

One of the comments in the book also made me think of Captain Scott Speicher, since he is the American air man that Saddam Hussein most likely kept.

Addressing the memoir "The Gulf Between Us" by Cynthia and Cliff Acree is a bit difficult. It came out around 1998, and thus a completely different era than our current misadventure(aka quagmire) in Iraq. Since I am a moderate Democrat, I kind of have a bitter taste in my mouth when I think of the Bushes. However "Gulf" is really the story of the Acrees, and thus I do recommend this because these two are great people. Col. Acree is a hero because he withstood torture and would not reveal critical intelligence to the Iraqis during the first Gulf War. His wife is also a hero because despite her own pain, she fought to get better recognition of POWs and their families. The stuff that Col. Acree had to go through is heartwretching, and it is a miracle in itself that he lived to tell us. For that, I salute him. The book also makes a good move in mostly avoiding political matters(both parties seem to be portrayed well), but Acree should not have kept mentioning how he wouldn't even give in to the demand that "he call [President George H.W] Bush a donkey". Well Bush 43 is certainly worse than that for treating de facto POWs in Gitmo the way he has, but again Acree couldn't have forseen that, so he gets a pass. Recommended reading. Should be read by any who believe torture is a good way to get intelligence(Acree never gave up anything that was good) and by those who believe in the Geneva Conventions, and of course by those who want to admire true American heroes: our soldiers.

I have read many POW stories since WWII and this is one of the best. The perspective is a little different as the wife talks a chapter about what is going on at home and then Col. Acree talks about his ordeal while a prisoner of war in Iraq during Desert Storm. The internal fortitude and resolve of Co. Acree is astounding and what he went through is heart rending. At the same time his wife did much in creating a force of help and an attitude of compassion among the entire citizenry of the U.S.A. You will rally 'round the flag after reading this and appreciate the downfall of Hussein!

When I first bought this book, I thought it would be something I MIGHT pick up and read...if I didn't have something better to do. Being a new Marine spouse in a post-9/11 world, the story was, at least, an intriguing one, and any new information I could get was a bonus. I had NO idea what was in store.

This is a story of patriotism, of survival, of fear, of strength, of new and old friendships, of new and old adversaries. A story of triumph and most of all an enduring love; Cindy and Cliff's story is one that will touch anyone.

It is written in perfect format as Cindy chronicles her daily life in unison with what happened to Cliff thousands of miles away in captivity. It demonstrates how even in the most grim of circumstances, the spirit perseveres and is, indeed, made stronger. From a military point of view, their amazing story can also serve as a reference for families on how to handle difficult situations, when their loved ones' lives could be at risk. It certainly has for me.

I am a better person for having read this book. I am better Marine spouse after reading this book. It truly is one of the best investments I have ever made. It demonstrates, beyond a doubt, the Honor, Pride and Commitment that signifies the Marine Corps, and all our servicemen and women. I appreciate the Acrees sharing their story with the world.

I had first purchased this pregnancy journal back when I was pregnant with my daughter. I really enjoyed using it then, but enjoy it even more with this pregnancy. They have updated the cover, and I believe that some of the inside is a bit different too. I really like the easy layout of the book, and enjoy filling in the pages as things progress along. Awesome book, easy to use, and well worth every penny spent on it. I give it a 5 stars.

I love this little journal. It has lots of questions to prompt you on what is going on in each stage. You can add photos too! I found it easier than freestyle writing in a journal. I would recommend this to anyone who is pregnant. It would be a great gift idea too!

I gave this to my best friend, who is pregnant with her first baby. I had been looking at other journals and this one looked more on the fun and cute side opposed to all serious. When I got it it was so nice, bright colors and the pages were high quality. The book has alot of fun questions in it and even some for the dad to be! Also has a format that would help someone still to it, sometimes journals can be hard to continue. Where there are questions and then space for the answers...and not questions that would involve pages and pages of answerws. Some of the questions may seem silly to fill in now, maybe a bit on the corny side, but these answers to these questions are going to be exactly what you are going to reread and remember for years to come!

I loved this! So many fill in the blanks so that you can remeber after you forget! I should have just jotted more down, but i still am glad i used it!
