This book is very helpful if you are fulfilling hours toward the National Athletic Trainer's exam. The book is formatted so you could record all of your hours and experiences in an organized fashion. It has places for recording where, when and what you did during a particular time. It also gives you tips on athletic training.

The Cognitive Rehabilitation Workbook: A Dynamic Assessment Approach for Adults With Brain Injury

A comprehensive and practical manual.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1996-08-21
Organized from a functinal skills rather than a process-orientated approach to rehabilitation, this book offers nine (9) units of structured training in everyday tasks using real-life materials. The sections cover reading comprehension, computations, checking accounts, meal planning, giving and receiving directions, using the telephone and telephone books, using schedules and calendars, using the newspaper, and personal time management. A seperate section on Memory Notebook Training is also included. Patients will easily see the relevance of theses tasks. Unfortunately, nearly all of the exercises are far too advanced for geriatric CVA and TBI patients who have no intention of returning to employment. Only the Memory Book section would be relevant to geriatric patients

excellent handbook for adult language therapy
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-03
This handbook provides a multitude of excellently organized worksheets and lists that can be used directly in language therapy. The book is very thorough and is great for the "running out of ideas" clinician. It covers everything from simple yes/no questions to abstract reasoning. All worksheets are organized by task and level of difficulty. This would be a great addition to other language therapy materials.

I like this book. As an occupational therapist I found valuable information I could share with families and clients who have experienced spinal cord injuries. Ms. Boyles has a no nonsense approach to activities of daily living, resources, and expectations. This book has given me insight about my role as a therapist in the recovery process.

A good introductory reference on pain management
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-01-07
Simon, Ehrlich and Sadwin have edited a good basic introductory reference for the public on pain management with a variety of complementary/alternative medicine approaches. Each of the editors has contributed sections of the book as well. Various tables summarize relevant material and nicely supplement the text, which is divided into easily digested portions.

The reviewer, who is familiar with a spectrum of approaches to relieve pain and emotional traumas, found items of particular interest:

> A discussion on 40 symptoms of hidden brain concussion (p. 51)
> A discussion on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), aka Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), its assessment and treatments
> A table differentiating between physical and psychological pain syndromes (p. 92-93)

The discussion on CAM approaches highlights a broad spectrum of modalities, with a few suggested readings for most. Surprising significant omissions: EMDR, Energy Psychology approaches e.g. (WHEE; Emotional Freedom Technique), both of which are the most potent of the available treatments for psychological trauma, and the latter of which is very helpful in treatment of physical pain as well.

More readable than Trauma by Mattox
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-13
This book by an acknowledged trauma guru, contains similar information to that which is found in the trauma "bible" by Mattox. However its more concise style means that it is far easier to read. Ideally you would have both titles on your bookshelf, "Current Therapy of Trauma" to read cover to cover, and "Trauma" to have as a reference for more in-depth study. These two books are the ones to have!

Good resource, very concise and to the point.
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 1999-08-26
This book gives great tips in a concise and easy to read manner. My biggist complaint is the demonstration of opening the airway(for CPR) is incorrect. The hand under the neck is dangerous and should not be used. The correct form is the "chin lift" with the fingers on the chin. This was changed in 1987.

Practical Information for the professional
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-10
I purchased this book to become part of a group of supporting materials for a presentation at a conference on recovery in fitness. The book is written on a college level as a text. The information is practical and supported by research. The recovery questionaire can be broken down into simpler parts to be diaried and easily answered daily by clients/athletes you might work with or for yourself while following a training schedule, and especially in preparation for a specific event, to prevent overtraining issues. The fifth star is missing because of the presentation of information in such an advanced and scientific way. The format is not for everyone, but the information in it is extremely helpful in many venues. I am sure the authors hope that it is selected by many fitness and athletic professionals to educate and train everyone from a proathlete to the four day a week fitness enthusiast to keep them safe and keep training effective through proper recovery and recovery practices.
