This is a good book which takes scientific aproach to running. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who's new to running as a guidebook but for those athletes who want to know why they really train by doing intervals or long runs. It also tries point out what research has proved to work and what doesn't work. I would've expected a bit more information on the training on how to use this info in practic.

Giving outsiders views re physios

I think this is almost out of print anyway. The author got some fame from giving Jose Maria Olazabal at least another 10 years on his golfing career when he couldn't even walk round the course. He diagnosed that the foot symptom was a back problem. Ballack also went to him for treatment a few months ago.
The book doesn't give away any massive secrets, but it does tell the amateur athlete what a physio should be thinking, so removing another middleman/expert out of the dollars per hour equation.

Really useful information for injured people!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

It is very difficult to find useful information for people who have been injured except from the strictly medical information point of view. This book tells you how to take charge of your life when you feel so vulnerable. It begins with choosing a doctor if you don't like the one you have. Suggestions are offered for handling shock and facing changes in career and lifestyle. It gives valuable information about head injury. It addresses guilt from being a "burden" and helps you through the civil and criminal justice systems, including valuable tips about dealing with insurance companies. The author is a clinical psychologist who, herself, was seriously injured. I haven't found a book this helpful for the injured and their families anywhere.

I use this resource often while seeing patients in the office. I frequently use it as a resource for home exercise programs, which many patients love. Especially those who cannot or do not necessarily require a physical therapy visit, the handouts are invaluable. The pathology/anatomy overview is helpful to patients, too.

This was an obscure, little ditty of a book I came across at a library. It piqued my curiosity because I love mysteries. This part murder mystery, part legal drama feels very authentic due to author Bernard Raizner's background as an assistant prosecutor turned defense attorney.

Based in the 1970s, an assistant district attorney spends the night with a woman, later she stands him up and subsequently rejects him. Later on, she ends up dead. Did he do it? Did he make the threatening phone calls that forced the girl to get a tracking system on her phone? This and other questions will be answered. The book is fairly short, and I breezed through it.

Bottom Line: A real page turner with very good courtroom drama and jaw-dropping twists.

Bridging the Gap: A Multimedia Approach to Teaching
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-24
This is an excellent book for a diagnostic radiology resident in the first couple of rotations in Vascular and Interventional Radiology, as well as body imaging fellows and general diagnostic radiologists. In essence, this covers the major topics in interventional radiology that guides us in the priniciples interventional radiology and bridging concepts with practical knowledge. It is aptly broken down into Non-Vascular interventions covering commonly performed concepts such as biliary interventions, abscess drainage, biopsies, GI/GU interventions and Vascular procedures such as stenting, embolizations, vascular access and fibrinolytics. Each chapter cites a good number of references for further reading.

The CD-ROM is an excellent accompanyment providing the text and a multimedia experience that is truly complementary. The text runs from Quicktime from Apple and the text is better visualized using WXGA versus WUXGA since the size of the text/box cannot be adjusted. Text is searchable and is broken into two disks, Vascular and Non-Vascular interventions. The Videos and animations are also appropriately indexed by respective chapters. Navigation around the text on CD-ROM is intuitive. It lacks function to cut and paste text or add notes for further reference.

The book is written is a clear and concise fashion and can definitely be read during a month rotation, if not a shorter interval. A recommendation for improvement would include the ability to copy text or include a box for annotations (i.e. note taking).

Through a glass brightly by Nick Charles MBE

Whether you are at teetotaler alcoholic-on the way to becoming an alcoholic, the loved one of an alcoholic or just someone who wants to understand, you will find this book totally compelling reading.

"Through A Glass Brightly" is about a most remarkable man who trod the long downhill road into alcoholism and found himself in a life of degradation and sorrow that most people could never begin to understand. Yet despite becoming one of the dregs of society he managed to make a remarkable turnaround into a most admirable person who passionately cares about people who are in the same situation that he found himself many years ago. His dedication to to the cause of alcoholism has no boundaries, rich, poor, famous, through the years he has tried to help them through the Chaucer Clinic which he founded in 1989. To have the courage and conviction to tell the world the real story of alcoholism and the terrible effect it has on the lives of the alcoholics themselves and their families and friends around them was a truly wonderful action.

The book at times can be very funny, it can also be heartrending and sad. The book dispels the myth that most people believe tht all alcohoics are down and outs, vagrants and winos. This is not true, alcoholics come from all walks of life, Alcohol like Drugs is an addiction, it is also a very serious illness that in some cases leads to the death of the drinker. As I avidly read through the chapters I found that I could relate to many of the things that were happening to the author, because I have a loved on, a daughter who was alcoholic and was treading the long downhill road herself, but thanks to my reading "Through a Glass Brightly" and her eventual acceptance of her alcoholism she entered the Chaucer Clinic, and with their help she is climbing the uphill road back into society.

On reading "Through A Glass Brightly"it will put your views on alcoholics into a diffeent perspective. This book is not fiction-it is true life shown at its worst and sometimes its best.

Rare research into the use of the bow and arrow by native americans, from arrow wounds to the use of the bow and arrow, how it was constructed, from various bands use of different designs etc. I think this is a good book to have in your library if you are interested in NA archery, and stoneage bow and arrow warfare. Made me wonder if Ben Franklin wasn't on to something when he suggested the colonial army use the bow and arrow against the british during the revolutionary war.

This healing story of a tree whose branches are taken from her in a storm helps children find comfort and inspiration in their own journey. The author writes with sensitivity and the illustrations are delightful. I would recommend this book to anyone who facilitates the healing process of children.
