Good but not the best. Does have a lot of info, though some of it is wrong and/or incomplete. If you're only going to get one, get "The Purple Book." The format of this book is pretty dense, more like the way MD's present info. The Purple Book is set up in a question/answer format and is more user friendly. I did use Hand Secrets when studying to pass the CHT exam in 2006, and occasionally reference it still. Good x-ray pics.

Dr. Bamberger, like many veterinarian authors of care text, is rightly concerned that pet owners see experts as soon as possible. The text is clear, informative, and helpful, and has some good basic techniques. They are most helpful if you have on hand veterinary supplies (sterile gauze, Ace bandages, etc)--hopefully, in an emergency situation you'll be able to put your hand on such things! Also, an awful lot of the text seems to concentrate on what NOT to do--this is important, but owners would be better served with emphasis on what can be done. This is a complaint I have about nearly all the pet first aid books I've seen. Also, since the book was published in 1993, I also wonder how up-to-date information may be. ...
A "Must Have" Book for Every Cat Owner!

As a "multiple cat" household we have many books around our home on cat health care, but this one is a "must buy" and a "must read" book to help you and your family prepare for an emergency with your cat friend. Not only is the text clear and understandable, there are also excellent drawings to help you implement what may be required to save your cat's life. Although we hope to never have to use what we've learned, as with first aid for humans, it's a nice skill to have, "just in case". If you have cats, please keep them indoors and spay and neuter your animals! It will help them live long, happy and safe lives!

Thank goodness someone came out with a practical guide. These people that scream 'rehabber!' are usually either rehabbers, or happy to sacrifice the baby squirrel to their almighty esoteric beliefs. The reality is, there might NOT be a rehabber in your area, or, if there is, they may not be able to give the baby the time and attention that it will need to survive. GET THIS BOOK!

Really a bit off base... If you had just found a baby squirrel you would not generally have the necessary items around the house to take care of a baby squirrel.... You most likely are doing it more harm by trying to treat it (other than getting it warm - around 1-2 degrees higher than your normal body temp) take it to a rehabber... get online to get the closest rehaber near your... just type in squirrel in the address and it will find you a dozen locations to find you a rehabber...

User-friendly text on motor learning theory & applications

Having recently been assigned to teach a motor learning course this fall, I obtained, read, and have adopted this text for my course. The problem-based approach is helpful in making the connection between theory and application. The authors should try to put diagrams on the page which discusses them as it is sometimes confusing trying to examine them while reading the paragraphs related to the figures and tables being referenced. Ancillary materials for instructors should be expanded and I understand that the 4th edition is supposed to be ready for release in November with PowerPoints, test questions, etc. available for instructors who adopt the book. This will be GREATLY appreciated.

This is a book that I looked forward to reading. After many years of trying, I finally got the jist of it.
Carl McGown is a very knowledgable coach. He will coach cirles around a lot of people. The information in the book however is a little too academic for the beginning coach, or even the intermediate coach. Lots of great ideas and information here, but it is really hard to make sense of it.
This book isn't for everybody. Least of all the beginner to the game.

This a moving account of a family's struggle to deal with a grown son's head injury, but it suffers from a lack of judicious editing. There is a bit too much repetition and inclusion of unimportant details that detract from the central, compelling story of their son's recovery. I found myself frustrated by descriptions of homes and meals that had little or no bearing on this central story and its powerful message. I think people read these books to learn more about brain injury or to be inspired by the courage and perseverance of the brain injured person. This book accomplishes those goals, but I have read other memoirs that do a better job and make for more focused accounts of the pitfalls and triumphs of the brain injured and their loved ones.

Irish healer Aileen O Duinne finds her first lover Connor MacEgan near death close to her home. He has been tortured and his hands smashed by a father who believes that he has dishonored his daughter.
Aileen takes him back to her home and begins the slow process of healing him even though she has been forbidden by her chieftain to engage in the healing arts due to her inability to prevent the chieftain's son's leg from amputation. Aileen feels she has something to prove but she also has something to hide. Conner does not remember being intimate with her since she switched places with another woman seven years earlier during a festival. She and Conner made love and she became pregnant. Connor had no idea that he made love with Aileen but believed he was with someone else. Aileen, now a widow has never told Connor that they share a child.
As Connor recovers he sees Aileen in a new light. She is dedicated to his healing but also not succumbing to his charms as other women do. He also wants personal revenge against the family that broke his hands, instead of allowing the courts to decide the matter. Aileen wants him to give up his revenge but Connor wants no part of that, his honor is at stake.
On the whole this novel was interesting but not really moving until the last few chapters. Aileen was a bit cold, and held herself back from Connor. She was almost cowardly. Connor was driven and had to be right. Not until the final chapters did I really see that these two people were madly in love with each other. Overall an okay romance but not an exciting one.

Can outcasts find love in Medieval society?

Michelle Willingham's THE WARRIOR'S TOUCH is a heart-moving historical romance between outcasts set in Medieval times. Strong characterization draws the reader into the heart of the story while layers of suspenseful detail emerge as the hero and heroine reveal their desire. THE WARRIOR'S TOUCH is an outstanding second book of what is turning into a magnificent MacEgan brothers series.
Connor MacEgan is a warrior until he is found near death. Despite being banned from healing, Aileen O Duinne must disobey her tribe and the curse on her and try to save him. Connor finds death preferable to never being able to brandish his sword. His manhood and his position is dependent upon the health of and strength of his hands. Can Aileen's herbs, splints and love bring life back into this warrior's heart and body or will her tribe banish her, cursed as they think she is? As Connor and Aileen grow closer, past secrets, former promises and layers of deception threaten their growing passion. In the end, which is riskier and more noble, the battle of swords or the battle of the heart?
Readers wondering how Michelle Willingham could match debut romance HER IRISH WARRIOR can rest assured ---- she did. Her second book adds a new dimension to the MacEgan Brothers' world. In THE WARRIOR'S TOUCH, Michelle Willingham turns her attention to the outcasts of Medieval society, a warrior who can no longer fight and a woman healer now cursed. Around them death and disease threaten them while inside both Connor and Aileen are haunted by the past and their failures. When romance and love are at stake, can Connor and Aileen battle themselves and all the forces outside who threaten their growing love? Without creating spoilers, the idea of curses and the medieval demons of disease here are indeed scary, especially to a world unable to combat them quite as easily as we do today. Michelle Willingham grabs the reader's attention and heart in her portrayal of the darker side of Medieval society, not sensationalizing it, but allowing the reader to feel some of fears of the medieval world from her characters' point of view.
As in HER IRISH WARRIOR, Michelle Willingham once again demonstrates her ability to create intriguing minor characters, here in Ewan and Whelon, that reveal hidden sides of the main hero and heroine as they endear themselves to the reader's heart. In THE WARRIOR'S TOUCH, Michelle Willingham does an exceptional job of adding and integrating elements of Medieval literature into her stories. The mixed identity theme works very here as it creates secrets and romantic conflict while simultaneously and creating a literary echo to Medieval literary tradition. With her second book, Michelle Willingham has firmly established herself as a new voice to watch among Medieval enthusiasts!
