Wolkodoff takes an analytical approach to golf that I've not found anywhere else. The book is a little dated but it's a golf-specific book that's not trying to sell any specific program but challenges golfers to a comprehensive fitness and nutrition program. Wolkodoff directs readers to resistance exercises, stretching exercies and a workout program to maximize the benefits to golfers and the type of muscle strength and fitness golfers need. Buy this book if you are interested in a thorough golf-specific fitness regimen.

I decided my golf needed some extra power, so I searched the books and gave this one a try. I was on the Body for Life program, switchted to this after 3 weeks of that, and not only is my golf better but I lost an extra 10 pounds. I found the nutrition section a good overview and was well worth the price of the book in that I was able to balance out my meals better and I got some good ideas about how to eat on the course(threw out the gatorade and got some bars with a little bit of fat). Another thing was this was the only golf exercise book that really bothered to list references for the ideas and information, so I felt the author really put some thought and time into this.

Good coverage of golf and muscles used in the swing. I was easily able to use the exercises and training plan at the gym. Also, I didn't realize how important aerobic training was for golf, so that section got me moving in that direction.

Millions of fitness books litter the shelves and I have read them all. This book is the reference book when it comes to fitness. While you're "in season", you want to keep your fitness levels but yet be able to play the game at optimal levels. Yet in the "off-season", you can improve your game by building strength in the golf muscles. This book gives you programs for the entire year, even a "pre-season" workout. One of the most informative golf books I have ever purchased.

Add a couple more stars above. Not only have I read Neil Wolkodoff's Physical Golf, but I have had the honor of working with Neil personally with my own training. I strongly believe Neil is giving me the conditioning that will put me at an advantage over the thousands of pros that have the dream of playing on the PGA Tour. It takes a team to drive a player to that elite level of golf. Neil Wolkodoff's book inspired me to make a change in my conditioning that will definitely improve my physical well-being, which will ultimately give me a mental as well as a physical advantage over my competition. When you look good you feel good, and when you feel good, you play good golf. I am exempt on the Canadian PGA Tour and am training with Neil to get ready for the 2000 season. Read Physical Golf like I did and watch out for me on the US PGA Tour in 2001.

An excellent resource for any Personal Trainer. I carry mine with me every time I see a client. It's absolutely packed with excellent information. As an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, I have found this book one of the best they offer and one of the best resources I've had as a Trainer overall.

This book appears to be a pretty darn good resource for fitness prescription and testing. I have read much of it and it is pretty well written and quite clinical. So if that's what you need, then this book is it.
However, I was intending to get books to study for the ACSM Personal Trainer certification. This is NOT the book for that. Now granted, they recommend this book on their website, and it may be helpful, but the intended primary study source is the ACSM's resources for the personal trainer...book. So if that's what you are trying to do (like i was) then get that book, not this one. If you want a bunch of cool knowledge about exercise prescription, then this is the book for you.

This is a follow-up to Bird's book Drive. It takes up at the end of his playing career and focuses on his post-playing career. He goes into the Olympic experience and the back pain that ended his career long before his skills had eroded.

He goes into detail about his figurehead jobs with the Boston Celtics and what ultimately led him to leave and eventually take up the head coaching job with the Indiana Pacers. Most of the book revolves around his first year coaching: he dispels myths and propaganda about his coaching and his life and h explains how he selected his coaches and his coaching philosophy, and his team.

The book was just a very enjoyable read.

Bird Watching (by Larry Bird)
Reviewer: Known as one the of the best basketball players to have ever stepped foot onto a NBA court, Larry Bird's book will teach you many things about himself as well as the game. Larry brings the reader into some of his most personal things that he has never shared with anyone. He gives you a first class view on all of his experiences of playing professional basketball in the NBA. He shows you the downsides, positives, but most of all the victories. You'll find out first hand all of the injuries Larry has encountered that until now he has kept as a secret.

Through this book Larry will share with you information of his hometown, French Lick, Indiana. You'll learn about his family, about his fathers' death and the way up to his mothers' death. Larry talks about more than just his parents he introduces you to his wife, Dinah and his two children, Conner and Mariah.

Larry will walk you through his entire career. All the way from his high school career, where one of his favorite coaches, Jim Jones coached him. Jim Jones was the coach who really taught Larry all of the fundamentals of the game. Larry didn't seem to have that many coaches that he didn't care for. Larry is also a very hard worker, he really appreciated it when coaches made him run hard. He believed that every basketball player should be conditioned to play the game. Then later on in his career when he ends up becoming a coach he incorporates all of the coaching skills that he has gathered from his previous coaches and uses them on his players. He brings you through some of his most exciting journeys and some of his most famous friends and players.

Just about everything in this book flows together. Larry explains everything that you know about him and a lot of things that you have no idea of. The only thing that I disliked about the book is that none of it was put in order from the beginning of his life to the end of his career, it seemed to jump around a lot. Another big thing was that each chapter was long in itself, but it seemed to talk about the same thing and just ramble on and on. For example one of Larry's biggest problems was his back and he talked about it for a whole chapter then he talked about it more in a few different chapters. Although there some very good and interesting chapters in the book that taught me many things about Larry Bird.

Overall I thought the book was very good, but somewhat long for me, but if you read often then it will be just fine. I would recommend this to anyone who has a great liking of either Larry Bird or basketball. You also need to have a pretty good understanding of basketball to be able to understand some of the topics Larry teaches you.

Bird Watching: On Playing and Coaching the Game I Love

Bird Watching, an autobiography by Larry Bird, is a story for any lover of sports. Bird Watching is a detailed account of the life of Larry Bird, from his NBA career with the Boston Celtics to his coaching position with the Indiana Pacers. After reading the first page of the book, the reader realizes there is more to this NBA legend than meets the eye.
Unlike most professional basketball players, Larry Bird never regretted the day he left the NBA and even says that the day he retired was "one of the happiest days of [his] life." Faced with chronic back problems and an irregular heart, Bird was happy to see the day when he no longer had to endure the pain of playing the sport he loved more than anything. Coming from the man himself, the story describes Bird's life in a detailed and personal manner. From beginning to end, the reader easily notices the uniqueness of this man's character and not only sees, but feels the impact this incredible man left on so many fellow players, fans, and loved ones.
I thought this was a great book, especially for a sports fan. I felt that for a sport's book, it was particularly well written. The author's style allows the reader to get a personal glimpse of the life of Larry Bird and causes the reader to feel as if they knew this NBA legend. Because of the story's subject, the author employs very few literary devices. However, the author uses many similes in describing Bird's injuries, allowing the reader to appreciate Bird's choice in leaving the NBA. The book lacks an overall dominant theme, but simply wishes to convey the story of one of the greatest and most unique basketball players of all time.

This book explores the post playing days of arguably the best forward to ever play the game of basketball. Bird recaps his days of playing in the olympics, his time in the front office of the Celtics, and his coaching days of the Pacers. I have been a huge Bird fan since I was a kid, yet I never knew much about him, except for what I saw on the court. This book gave me a lot of insight into Bird's dynamic work ethic as both player and coach and showed how he was able to use his winning attitude to take the Pacers from 39 wins to 58 wins in one season as well as to the infamous clash with Jordan and the Bulls in the 98 Eastern Conference Finals. Bird also reveals his thoughts about the NBA today. If you want to know about the legend that is Larry Bird, you should read this book.

I've had this book for three days, have read almost all of it, and have used it to organize my pantry, bedroom, and walk-in closet! And I haven't spent a penny! I'm so excited to get the linen closet, dish cupboards, and everything else done, as well! And I am working on scheduling a couple of days with my husband and helpers to finally tackle that beast of a garage!
With ADHD, I'll never be able to make Martha Stewart proud,(note to self, cancel that subscription,) nor will I ever get the proper use out of my boxes and boxes of organizational tupperware. I get it now, thanks to this book. But I can and have created efficient spaces that are manageable!
Being frugal never got me organized, but "the brutal purge," has done wonders for our home! I can finally justify getting rid of all of that stuff that I have kept, "just in case!"
The book itself is easy to read, has step-by-step instructions for organizing and has lots of easy, inexpensive tips for organizing things without spending lots of money. Basically, you have to make the stuff fit the space, or invest in more space! What a simple concept, but this woman illustrates it and motivates so that it is finally achieveable!
I was just diagnosed less than three weeks ago, and life is brighter than ever, now! And cleaner!

this book is amazing, it's like the author took many years to study my living habits. i never knew how much AD/HD affected my home life, i though it only effected school and driving. i bet it probaly effects the workplace too, i wonder if there is any books about that. the 2 most important things it said that struck me to the bone is how ppl with AD/HD require more engery imput into any task, so they get tired and overwhelmed much eaiser, and that what you don't see you forget about, end up buying duplicates of, and that is it hard for someone with AD/HD to get rid of stuff, getting rid of too much too fast is overwhelming. And as i had started to discover on my own that taking closet doors off helps me a lot to keep the closet organized and helps me to keep track of clean clothes and put them away eaiser, the book also said sometime you need to remove cubard doors, keep things out in the open, it may not me more attractive but it is more fuctional, fuctional is the key to keeping the AD/HD home organized. fuctional is easily accesable and easy to put back. The book goes into details of how to display things and where to put things so that it makes the most sence... it also gives us permision to not make our beds!!!! personaly with my bed when it's not in use (wich it is a lot, also explained in the book) i leave it with just the pillow and fitted sheet on it, all the sheets and blankets are on a shelf between the side of my bed and the wall. sometimes they are folded sometimes they are not, but it's easy access and easy to put back and i dn't have to get out of bed att night if i wake up cold and need another blanket. some stuff in the book is logic, like next to every phone there should be a notebook and a pen/pencil, personaly when i did this i velcroed the notepad and pen to the shelf next to the phone. that is just a little of what the book is about, you have to read it for the details of how to do it. if you want to contact me for help beyond what the book can give you i am at fight_the_good_fight@hotmail.com Also i learned that having less stuff really does decrease stress, i had to spend a weekend away from home and only had 2 hours to pack, taking only the nessisties and living with only them really helped me focus on my life and what i needed to do about the things that werre stressing me out.

wasteful and costly ideas to 'simplify' life
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-14
The layout of Organizing Solutions resembles a magazine, having glossy pages with lots of images and little text. the layout simplifies finding ideas and makes it particularly easy for those withADHD or other learning disabilities to find tips quickly without getting lost in a jumble of text. it has sections covering each room of the house plus ideas of how to handle specific items or tasks that occur in those rooms (paying bills, folding laundry, etc.). as a basic intro for those who have not figured out how to organize many parts of their homes, or certain areas in particular, this could be a helpful book. but, for me, the flaws outnumber it's usefulness.

Pinsky spends too much time arguing for efficiency at the cost of beauty and frugality, which essentially means you need to have some money to implement her ideas. yardwork a hassle? hire someone. can't get your room organized? buy more furniture. there are a lot of helpful tips, but the wastefulness ("it is quicker and more efficient to use paper plates as your "china" of choice at everything but your most formal meals.") was too much for me to handle. in talking about efficiency, she frequently suggests using open shelves and open storage bins so it's easier to just toss (or, to use her term, "wing") things into the containers instead of wasting time with doors and lids. the problem with that system that she never addresses is how to handle the amount of dust that will get on everything and inside those containers, creating a new problem altogether (but i guess you just hire a housekeeper to handle that, as she suggests hiring one to clean other parts of the house).

if you're having trouble getting a particular part of the house organized, skim through that section of the book in a bookstore or library (they're nicely labeled and color coded) to get some ideas, but leave the book behind.

A Beautiful Book for the ADD-Brained
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-13
I have a whole shelf full of organizing, cleaning, and time management books that have great ideas in theory, but when our ADD family tries to apply them only serve to make me feel guilty. This book not only gave great tips (ones that non-ADD people may read and think totally obvious and unnecessary to mention), but did so in a way that did not seem condescending or guilt-inducing. I also was very glad to finally see a book for people with ADD that was filled with beautiful pictures of reasonably (not perfect) clean and organized spaces. So often, we either see magazine-perfect rooms shown in books for homemakers without ADD or little to no illustrations at all in books for those with ADD...the ones who probably need the pictures the most.

My one criticism was with the expectation that the reader will be wealthy enough to afford, for example, a dishwasher. In the section on washing dishes, there was no mention even of what a person who does not have the means to have a dishwasher should do. There were other places were I felt that a level of material wealth was just assumed as well.

A few years ago I bought "Bump and Run" mainly because it came highly recommended; particulary by Don Imus. As I struggled through it, I kept waiting for the laughs, which never came, not even a smile. I find it hard to believe, but "Wild Pitch" is even worse!! A book this size is usually a two stitting read for me, but it took me over a week to finish....

In sum, the book was boring and unfunny. The events predictable and the characters so poorly drawn that I didn't care what happened to any of them.

This book is great! Lupica tells the story of an old Mets pitcher trying to make a comeback. His use of real players and baseball history makes this story seem like a non-fictional biography. For anyone that was a ball player and loves this great game will relate to everything the main charactor (Charlie Stoddard) goes through. From the pains of throwing a baseball your entire life to the night life of a pro ball player; his interaction with other teammates, the great pitcher/catcher relationship and the infamous Red Sox Vs Yankess rilvary. This book is a page turner and is extremely difficult to put down once you've started. Any true baseball fan will love this book.

I thought this book was absolutely wonderful. After being introduced to Lupica's earlier work, I have been hooked. When I heard he was writing a book about baseball, I patiently waited until the release date, and bought it the minute came out. I was not disappointed, as this book brings to life real sports life. As someone who grew up a sports fan, and spent five years with a collegiate team, his characters are perfect, as I can see people from my own experiences in the book. Although some have complained about too much of a happy ending, I feel that the story flowed really well, and the ending wasn't as cheesy as people made it out to be. As a fledgling sports reporter and sports fiction writer, Mike Lupica is definitely someone I can look up to and shoot for.

This fictional novel detailing the life of Showtime Charlie Stoddard was an excellent portrayal of the life of a major league baseball player. Lupica kept me on the tip of my toes anxious to know what would happen next. Using several different minor characters, he was able to create great character interaction and really show what a major league athlete goes through every day. In addition, he showed the great determination and dedication needed to make a successful comeback. All in all, this was a terrific combination of realistic baseball and the issues that Charlie Stoddard encounters every day.

Lupica will never be considered a great writer of fiction, but this novel is a huge step in the right direction. This novel has a pretty good story and a couple of well-developed characters. Unlike his two basketball novels (Jump and Full Court Press), this novel kept me reading because I actually wanted to see how it would turn out.

I have a few problems with Lupica's writing in general. He tends to use the same type of characters in every book, it is impossible to get through 50 pages without ending up in a strip club, and every 20 pages guarantees a bar scene.

Having said that, I did enjoy the story in this one. It helps that I love baseball and suffer as all Red Sox fans do. I have to give credit to Lupica for giving us one great season even if the Red Sox have yet to match it.

I was involved in an accident in January during a snowstorm. I did research alot of books about settling a car accident claim on my own without using a lawyer and that had good information regarding accidents. I ordered 2 books and this was by far THE BEST !! The latest version 1.0.5 had everything I needed about handling my claim on my own which saved me thousands of dollars that a lawyer would have charged. Plus it made me more knowledgeable about car accident and what to do in general. The secret forumla really works. I applied everything step by step like the book showed in a ver EASY to use format, you don't have to read alot of long winded garbage found in other books. This latest edition gets straight to the point. It tells you exactly what to do, how to do it and what you should expect when you settle. I cannot rave about it enough since I settled for $12,845.00. Never did I think I could have been awarded that much in the case but the book outlined things I never saw in the other book I purchased. I had more ways to get more money out of my claim than I ever imagined. The STEP by STEP approach also really one me over and the fact that there are REAL LIFE examples from the book that prove you can really do it yourself and keep more of your settlement. A third of your money does not have to go to lawyers it can go directly in your pocket. Again I cannot thank this book enough and I am so glad it is available !!!!!!

This book is rather helpful in a general informative manner especially for those who have not had to deal with an insurance adjuster or the process one goes through to file a claim. It's easy to follow and refer back to as you heal and recover. It however lacks detail in how to best determine and justify the pain and suffering aspect of the claim under its "Secret Formula" section. This may be something the author could clarify and enhance more thoroughly in his next volume/edition. It does stress keeping very good, detailed records including a daily diary which is rather helpful. If you have been in a minor or medium accident, this would be a good resource to have along with other resources including insights from your own auto insurance agent.

I did;t have to go against my insurance policy, the book showed me that and many more hints which helped save me thousands of dollars from hiring a lawyer.

I was also very pleased at how easy it was to read and follow along with the author given several examples of real accidents and how they were handled. There are things in this book you should do immediately even if a lawwyer is needed. The book has a chart to tell you and when it makes sense.

There are more than one secret that everyone as a driver should know from the book that would help you in case you do have an accident. As someone who has used the book to settle, I can tell you I am very pleased for the price.

I wanted a simple easay to read book that delivered results and this one was it. Who wants to read 500 pages of useless information. I want the information quick and fast, with results. And this delivered.

You can settle the claim on your own and save alot of money just like I did.

Plus the book has real life examples that you can follow, it is not just some made up references.

I would recommend this book.

nice reference on position, chronic problems

Hardly as comprehensive as its title implies, this book is nevertheless highly recommended as a guide to position and for general, especially position-related problems with cycling. Bike fit is a critical factor in avoiding overuse injuries, and this is the best guide I've seen on the subject.

Chapter on knees

If you are like me and have taken up cycling because of knee problems, Chapter 5 makes this book worth the money. This is the single best description of common knee problems and advice that I have found. I have spent years researching knee problems and remedies, and stumbling across this book has been the best coup. If you suffer from knee problems but don't cycle, buy this book. If you are in the medical profession, buy this book because your patients will love you. I have seen close to 20 different doctors, physical therapists, and specialists and none could describe all of the common knee issues and problems this completely, simply, and thoroughly.

Although no book can ever agree with every bit of cycling wisdom a keen rider picks up over the years - this one goes a long way to reinforcing what has become second nature in many instances for me. In addition to that, one bit of information has totally changed the way I ride, a fab way of compensating for unequal leg length without orthotics or cleat spacing. No more sores on one side because of slipping across the seat.
As to seat setback, top tube and stem length and the way it relateds to rider centre of gravity, I must say I think that Keith Bontrager with his "myth of KOPS" (search google) has the best word, complex tho.
This guy Pruitt is pretty hot in my mind, he'd have to be to write this book.

This book has some great information in it. I wish it would have more detailed info regarding injuries and different aches and pains. It runs through this info pretty quickly.

All in all a nice cycling reference book.

Tens of thousands of claimants have hit the jackpot with Phen-fen. Fraudulant claims are rampant and people like this claim moral high ground. Disgusting. Without tort reform, the drug industry will go down in flames. Who in their right mind would develop a drug for the severely obese now, as a group they are a high risk group anyway, possibly higher risk than any other, unhealthy and prone to disease...and their numbers are growing daily. Our legal system has brought access to new medicines to treat obesity to a new low, and subjected us all to their amoral "justice" at the expense of American jobs to boot. That is the real story!

Required Reading For Anyone Who Takes Prescription Medicine

This superb publication serves as an important guide for anyone who wants to know how drug companies operate and how trial lawyers help to uncover corporate dirt.

Preying on consumers and health care providers ,drug companies hype the benefits of their drugs, while hiding the dirt about the known dangers of their pills .

While Fen-Phen is now off the market, the manner in which the pharmaceutical companies operate in marketing and selling other drugs remains business as usual !

This book will make your blood boil!

On a recommendation from the website for the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, I purchased this book and was riveted from beginning to end. As a woman who takes medicine for depression, and has a sister who took Redux for two months, I found this book a true shocker and a well-told tale. Alicia Mundy arranges a vast amount of material and lays out a stark and gripping tale of how the FDA - many of whose members are on the drug companies' payrolls - approved Redux despite its proven history of making women (literally) deathly ill. I felt tremendous solidarity with the lawyers prosecuting the case, among them Alex MacDonald, who worked in tandem with his wife, Dr. Maureen MacDonald (a doctor specializing in anesthesia). Because it is a true story, Mundy's book does two things: one, it makes the readers (including myself) far more wary of the FDA and the drugs our doctors prescribe, and two, its story takes twists and turns no fiction book could plausibly get away with. If you take prescription medicine of any kind for any reason, read this book, and remember Mary Linnen the next time you think about buying weight-loss drugs.

The Facts About The Drug Combo That DOES Work
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2003-03-11
There have been a lot of words written about this combination that are simply WRONG. They have been taken in other countries
without problems and side-effects seen in this country and that is because of abuse. Fen-Phen was developed for use by diabetics
who have a harder time reducing than the regular guy and what's
more, when taken as prescribed, it not only did take the weight off, it regulated sugar levels so well, many diabetics were able
to come off insulin! There's where the real problem started - the
insulin manufacturers suddenly had competition. Then you had too
many doctors prescribing Fen-Phen for patients who wanted to drop
20 pounds who then upped the dosage on their own figuring it would work even better and faster...the result was the legal disaster we face now. Fen-Phen should never have been prescribed for anyone who wasn't at least 50lbs. overweight but it was handed out on a regular basis to anyone who asked right before it was removed from the market. For those who took Fen-Phen without any resultant problems this was just another slap in the face for
the obese who now have no other options but surgery or chronic
diarrhea. Stricter regulations on how this could be prescribed
would have prevented a lot of unnecessary deaths; Viagra has
killed far more people since it became available than Fen-Phen
ever did and yet it's still widely available. Food for thought?

Inspiring for attorneys

The book discusses several cases of Fen-Phen, the diet drug. The book goes through the history of the drug, the drug companies efforts to conceal the negative side-effects of the drugs. It continues on through the FDA approval process, how the drug companies paid for numerous studies to prove the drugs were safe and wrote articles and paid doctors to publish the articles in the doctor's names. On come the lawyers to protect the injured victims and the ones for the drug companies. The book even covers the power struggles between plaintiffs attorneys fighting among themselves.

As an attorney, I am inspired to grow my career into Plaintiff's drug litigation because the problems plaguing Fen-Phen will likely repeat.

i haven't read the book because in the table of contents there is no track?

Major ommission. Sprinting is a major sport. It also causes numerous injuries - hamstring and hip tears and pulls.

I was going to buy this book for my nieces (15 and 16 yrs) - track stars. I was also interested as i am a sprinter as well.

Every parent of a female athlete should keep this book close

One of my daughters was an MVP Basketball player in high school. She worked hard, played hard and certainly took her share of injuries. My second daughter was a tennis player. I wish I had this book back then - the sprains, knee injuries, "collision" injuries, tennis elbow and shoulder strains they sustained during game times maybe could have been avoided with better strength training exercises as outlined. As an active, health conscious person myself, I certainly found the guidelines and exercises for the mature female athlete very informative as well. This well-thumbed book has made its way into the hands of several of my friends and was also presented to each of my daughters for when they have their own little "female" athlete!

Finally, a book that understands the "female" athlete!

Having raised a swimmer, bowler and softball girl we're very familiar with muscle pains, pulled ligaments and shoulder and neck issues. It's nice to hear something other then "ice it and elevate it"! Female bodies are different than male bodies, particularly during puberty, and it is nice to be able to identify and commiserate with other females on common (and not so common) injuries and the correct preventative measures to take both on and off the field. Bravo! to Gloria Beam and Ruth Winter for a well written and informative book!

One just for us!
