Concise surgical reference for common Sports Medicine problems
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.

This is a great, current, and concise reference of surgical techniques for common sports medicine problems. It provides a quick and straight forward format in each chapter including background on the specific condition, indications for surgery, specific details of the procedure and a very nice summary of postoperative rehabilitation for a variety of the more common conditions. It is not a complete reference for sports medicine, so if you're looking for something comprehensive, look elsewhere. Authored and edited by many of the leaders in the field of orthopaedic sports medicine, it's a reference I have grown to trust for planning my surgical procedures and caring for my patients.

An excellent reference textbook on Orthopaedic Trauma topics for residents, fellows, and traumatologists. Contains updated reviews of topics and current literature citations and evaluations as well as very user friendly videos on common trauma procedures. I highly recommend it as a part of the library of the Orthopaedic Surgeon involved in fracture care.

Joy Says Children Should Know What to do in case of Trouble

Review Date: 2005-05-01
This is one of Joy Berry's "Survival Series for Kids" books and I have to confess that my son Devon and I like them all. I've had them in storage for years, way before Devon was a twinkle in my eye, or my gal Sara's, and I'm glad I saved them.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will tell your child what to do in minor and even major emergencies. Your child will learn how to bandage a minor cut if nobody else is around, how to stop bleeding, even from the mouth and nose, how to take care of blisters and bruises and burns caused by chemicals and heat, even fainting, stings and more and how to call for help. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.

Though this book was written over twenty years ago, it still stands up. The excellent comic book type illustrations will keep your child interested as you read along with him or her. And for the life of me I don't know why these books are not easier to get. Joy Berry is good for children, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. If you can get a hold of her books and share them with your child, you'll both be better for it.

This book can be used by pianists and piano teachers (often isolated in small towns) to find up-to-date answers to recurring injury problems, inspiration for playing "from the mind and heart" as well as the hands, and, in general, just talking about piano (although a lot of the information works well for other instrumentalists as well--especially the exercises for flexibility and strength). It's like a "class in a book."

Therapeutic Modalities in Sports Medicine

As an athletic trainer I feel it is essential to have a sound knowledge base of therapeutic modalities in order to properly and efficiently treat athletes. Therapeutic Modalities in Sports Medicine offers modality techniques ranging from therapuetic massage to use of spinal traction and lasers. It offers physiologic responses as well as technical explanations of uses of each of the modalities. I feel that "mini-glossaries" of terms and vocabulary used in each chapter provide easy use and reading, especially with the technical explanations of the physics aspect of modalities(you don't need a dictionary next to you!). This book is a must for certified and student athletic trainers alike! It is also a great resource for any academic cirriculum containing therapeutic modialities.

Very informative book written in an easy to understand way.

This book was about the various ailments of the thumb and many of the surgeries to correct problems; it was made up of a dozen or so papers contributed by various professionals in the field of the thumb. It was very informative, had many helpful photos and was of general high quality all around. With a copyright of 1994 it is slightly dated but, as far as I could tell, is still very applicable today. The pages were made of robust paper and the book had what seemed to be an encyclopedia/library binding.

There was a very nice introductory paper discussing the history of the various surgeries of the thumb, as well as the next paper which discussed the mobility and movement of the thumb. Subsequent papers went into various topics, all primarily based in diagnosing and fixing (usually through surgery) the different problems that various people have with their thumbs.

I am not a surgeon (although the editor says that he wrote it for surgeons) and I don't have a medical background, but I found the book remarkably easy to read (just have a dictionary on hand!). I had ordered the book because I had a certain problem with my thumb that I have lived with my whole life, and wanted to know what it was before wasting time with the excellent but expensive medical system we have here in the US. Sure enough, after pouring through the 200 page book in a few hours, I found my problem. I also found that I'd bought a great book that was worth the money even if I didn't have a specific reason for buying it.

I have found this book to be very useful and will continue to use it as a good reference book in the future. It is very detailed however and not the most user-friendly for the novice Legal Assistant. Written by an Attorney, it is very technical. In addition, I find the Appendix is a little vague at times.
