Injuries Books

This is a book geared towards physicians who provide primary care for sports related injuries. After a summary of acute and overuse injuries, the book is organized anatomically: shoulder; elbow; hand and wrist; neck and back; pelvis, hip and thigh; knee; other leg injuries; ankle; and foot. The book covers diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the injured athlete.

Although geared towards the primary care physician, this book is also useful for professionals who work with patients in rehabilitation: athletic trainers, PTs, Pilates instructors. It allows them to become familiar with the standard treatment protocols for sports injuries.

The book has practical tips for coaches, trainers, athletes and therapists. Provided excellent information on prevention, evaluation, and treatment prescriptions for professional and amateur athletes including weekend warriors. The book has a sport specific approach to biomechanics, peak performance enhancement tips, injury prevention and rehabilitation. I like Martial Arts and the book had great pictures to help prevent injuries. The golf chapter also really helped my swing and took my shoulder pain away. Would highly recommend.

This book is very well done. Very informative, useful information. I recommend this to anyone who has a youth involved with sports. Young athletes, parents and coaches should take the time to read this book. Dr. Micheli's insight and knowledge is very very valuable to youth sports. A great deal can be gained from reading this book.

This book is a terrific resource that should be on the desk of every nutritionist, sports dietitian, and coach. Athletes who want to improve performance in a healthy way need to focus on fuel; and this resource is full of scientifically valid and up-to-date information on the roles of food for performance. This is a must read.

The authors are clearly THE experts in the field of Sports Related Concussion. They share their experience in high school and college athletics as well as the NFL and NHL. The research that is quoted is very revealing. They claim most leg and knee injuries are examined by physicians, but most brain injuries are not! That's a scary thought!

I was especially impressed with the comments from professional athletes who have suffered numerous concussions before gaining an understanding of the health implications. Their stories should be read by every coach and trainer!

An amazing book for anyone interested in sports. Written by someone who has dealt with children's sports injuries extensively, the book provides detailed information on who should play sports, when, and how. Anyone with children should read this book, as it gives comprehensive information on not only sports, but overall health fitness. A unique book that discusses the side of sports sometimes ignored, from how a coach runs the team, to stress, and Psychological problems, and all the way through nutrition, and sports for the handicapped child. An easy to read, and understand book that all people (especially coaches) should take the time to read.

This is physical therapy at its finest. The Europeans provide a different way to move with a patient, relate to a patient and begin purposeful movement directly relating to life skills. My son, 4 years post accident, only ate pureed food until we worked with him through Pat's book. He now eats regular food, chewing, etc. This is a Godsend for those who American physical therapy has not worked because of the severity of the injury. These people are masters at getting the severely head injured back into the mainstream of life, without condescention, and with total support. I cannot thank them enough.
