While writing my Master's thesis, this book kept coming up in my research. I decided to buy it because I couldn't track it down in any library... I am so happy that I did. Although I purchased this book for a very specific purpose, it has greatly expanded my conception of feminist readings of Shakespeare. Kahn does a wonderful job of performing close readings of Shakespeare's Roman works (Titus Andronicus, Rape of Lucrece, Julius Caesar, Corilianus, Cymbeline) and couples such reading with historical and feminst interpretations... all of which are valid and thorough. I am not a huge fan of most feminist readings of Shakespeare, however Kahn has a compelling theory that I found easily acceptable and actually embraced. Kahn has a keen eye for language and detail, and she also manages to communicate her complex theories into lucid writing. I highly recommend this book for all who are interested in Shakespeare's Roman works.

more essential than David Ball on Damages !

Over the last 5 years I only battle against lawyers paid by the big business insurance industry. My practice is insurance breach of contract law and auto. I hold myself out as a trial lawyer because I do not accept the crap offers from the claims assessment software that every insurer uses to evaluate human life. To that end, in order to do right by your clients you must challenge the insurers of your clients or the people who harm your clients (we can not sue the insurer of the negligent driver directly) And you must be armed with proven techniques that work. That is what this book is, one of those books you tab, highlight, copy, reuse, a reference tool. This book is a must, an absolute must for anyone dealing with insurers in any capacity. It is chocked full of useful, practicable information that you can use right away. It teaches you how to teach a jury on what 'reasonable' means when they delay and deny meritorious claims. If you are a mill and settle every case without filing, accepting the low ball offers, not doing right by your client, etc., then just keep doing what you've always done and you'll get what you always gotten. But if you correct the injustices, fight for what is right, are on the side of society that helps people, not corporations, then you must by this book and use it. I have read all of David Ball's books, attended ATLA juror bias college, conventions, books on closing, jury bias, Jury Works, TLC, NITA, etc. and with all of that I found this book very useful. I refer to it before every deposition, trial, etc. I do not know the authors of the book, (I wish I did) but they are super accomplished trial lawyers. I speak from my heart on a book that will help people who care about people - and that means winning jury trials because that is the only check on our society. Remember what Thomas Jefferson said, "the right to a jury trial is more important that the right to vote." If you practice insurance bad faith law, auto law, or any law where insurance is involved, you must own this book. (...)

If you run, you need this book. The information in this book is applicable to absolute beginners as well as elites. Noakes teaches how to prevent injuries and treat them.

Most of the topics are covered in Lore of Running - If you already have that book, there is no need to buy this one.

The only drawback in this book is that the illustrations and photographs could have been better.

A Great WORKBOOK for Self-Pacing, Self-Study
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-14
As a self-instructional text, this WORKBOOK is excellent. The advantage is self-pacing. Of course any self-instructional book demands more from the user.

This WORKBOOK is designed to accompany the third edition textbook entitled __Emergency Care__, but I find that the WORKBOOK alone is valuable in its own right, even used without the textbook, since the WORKBOOK does contain a review of each area of emergency care and highlights the areas that might be missed on first reading of a textbook anyway!

If you like programmed text format -- like I do -- you'll enjoy this one. Lots of multiple choice throughout and a Post Test at the end, with answers.

Chapters include: The Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Assessment, The Airway & Pulmonary Resuscitation, Cardiopulminary Resuscitation, Breathing Aids & Oxygen, Bleeding & Shock, Soft Tissues & Internal Organs, The Extremities, The Skull-Spine-Chest, Medical Emergencies (Poisoning, Alcohol, Diabetic States, Convulsive Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Communicable Diseases), Childbirth & Pediatrics, Environmental Emergencies (near-drowing, radiation, burns, heat-realted, cold, fallen through ice), Special Patients, Controlling the Scene, Disentanglement (wreckage), Moving & Transfering, Appndices (on anti-shock garments, esophageal obturator, IV therapy).

Highly recommended for (1) those students and others getting into the field or planning a career as an emergency medical technician, (2) people who have been out of the field for a period and want a quick "refresher," (3) people who already have a good knowledge of basic first aid and want to advance it even more, (4) anybody who needs to practice written test-taking in this subject material, and (5) foreign students/non-native English learners (ESL/EFL) who will be studying in any medical field in an English-speaking country.

Brief book without the usual long ancedotal and long explanations. It's right on the mark, made sense and is easy to comprehend, without any legal experience. But if a lawyer is required, I'd contact Mr. Benjamin, a no-nonsense, straight-forward "tell it like it is" person.

Sexuality and disability are two issues that you will not find in many textbooks and many professionals are sometimes quite ambivalent to the topic, but this book will be a good source for professionals. Ronit Aloni is a sex therapist affiliated with the Loewenstein Rehabilitation Hospital in Raanana, Israel, with a background in studies on human sexuality at New York University and Shlomo Katz, is professor of rehabilitation psychology at Bar Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel. Ronit Alonis doctoral thesis on Designing an early sexual intervention program for the first stage of the rehabilitation of persons with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) forms the basis for this book.
This book has two sections. Section one on identification and discussion of problems relating to sexuality after TBI with five chapters on TBI, disability and sexuality; a survey of the literature; physical and medical aspects of sexuality; effects of TBI on the human sexual response and a review of intervention techniques. Section two on intervention techniques has four chapters on suggested intervention program for staff; intervention for partners and family; suggested intervention program with survivors of TBI and the use of surrogate therapy in the intervention program. The book also has a useful bibliography and index.
We found the book very informative on how to plan an intervention program for persons in rehabilitation with illustrative case stories and even though the book is mainly for survivors of TBI, its message can be used for persons with other disabilities or even intellectual disability. We recommend this book for professionals working with people with disability in order to understand the issue of sexuality and rehabilitation in this population.

This text is easily the most comprehensive review of sexuality and head injury available in book or journal form. It is easy to read yet technically complete enough to satisfy the professional. It is appropriate for use in the acute care hospital setting as well as post-acute or outpatient situations. Head injury support groups would also benefit greatly from having this text in their libraries

Shoulder Dystocia and Birth Injury: Prevention and Treatment

A MUST READ book

This is an excellent book for parents of children injured at birth as a result of shoulder dystocia. My own son suffered a permanent brachial plexus injury at birth due to shoulder dystocia and this book is one of the most valuable pieces of information that I have found in six years of research. Although intended for use as a textbook, Dr. O'Leary's clear and organized writing style will appeal to those of us not in the medical field as well. Dr. O'Leary explains the risk factors for shoulder dystocia, the accepted procedures for relieving a shoulder dystocia during delivery, and includes a valuable and informative section on litigation, a subject that parents of children with permanent injuries resulting from this obstetrical emergency will no doubt become familiar with sooner or later. It is very well-written, professional, and enlightening. Highly recommended.
