For Self and Country is written in a simple, yet moving style. The descriptions are so vivid that it is almost as if you are
watching a video of the events that are being described.
Being a veteran of Viet Nam, it brought back many memories, both good and bad. It uncovered some that I would have left covered.
In reality, the book begins when he is wounded and concentrates on the treatment, the evacuation and the long trip back to reality and relationships with those that love him.
I highly recommend this book for anyone that is studying military history, the war in Viet Nam, or US history.

I must be honest with you; I am Kent's niece. I have lived through the story. You see when I was born in 1977, Kent was
already in a wheelchair. However, I have read the book and believe it portrays the entire story quite accurately. This
is an awesome account of the years and progressions of Kent Waldrep.

This book covers the topic of health from a tennis perspective and could help thousands of tennis players from being injured
who play the game every year. This book would also be an invaluable resource for anyone treating "tennis specific" injuries.
I have been looking for a well-written book on this very subject for years.... this is it.

Truly Triumphant Story

Taylor's book is exactly what the title says. Many books make promises but this author delivers the goods. I sat on the edge
of my seat during the time of Jessica's terrible accident. I was with her riding in the ambulance, waiting on pins and needles
with her family to learn the dim prognosis. But the story only gets better.
During the time of her long and painful rehabilitation, Jessica does not spare herself. She tells it 'like it is' and we are captivated, charmed, entertained and the tears fall shamelessly and unchecked. My husband read her book after me and I saw the tears on his cheeks. He, too, had been through a terrible accident, experienced a brain injury and knew, like Jessica, that it was the will of the individual that caused a person to either overcome or give up. Jessica, of course, did triumph but she made sure that others knew her story - including royalty - and she also went back into the darkness to take the hands of others too afraid to believe that the light could still be theirs once again. Truly a masterful read.

Warren Hammer is the biggest name in soft tissue work. He is still its biggest name and pretty much considered the master
in the field. The book is both intellectual and practical. He presents the purpose behind each test and assessment and the
functional basis for problems. This book is "one-stop shopping" for people in manual medicine.

I know it's too late. I'm in the middle of taking a step. My left foot has yet to hit the ground. My mind say, Run, duck, evaporate, but my body won't react fast enough. It's like sliding on ice. No way to stop, and nowhere to go but in the direction gravity moves you. I feel a rush go through my body. I feel the stillness. My left foot touches earth. I start to take a running stride. The grenade explodes....."
This is the true story of a young Marine lance corporal who was severely wounded in Vietnam. His account of hope and survival carries a special message for those who fought there or were wounded there, and for those who stayed home, especially the women who love their men and have tried to understand what they endured and how it changed them.
For the author, Vietnam meant five months of combat and a year in Ward Three South at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. When he left the hospital, he was twenty - the oldest man on the ward. Vietnam was, more than any other conflict, a teenager's war, and Rick's account is one of teenage love and despair, as are those of his buddies. How these young men were joined together in a special fraternity for which the only initiation dues were pain, and how they managed to cope, makes M*A*S*H take a back seat to real life."
Especially relevant today as thousands of vets wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan make their way home.
