Good text for emergent readers and ESOL students. The book is basically a non-fiction book about what to do about cuts and scrapes. Kids will love it and the gross pictures.

For my kinesiology class this book was availabale in the library for student use. After using it the first time and seeing all that was included within the text, I had to have it. The pictures throughout this book are very helpful to dancers who are learning about anatomy. I know this book will be my guide as I further my dance career. It is amazing, every dancer should own it to understand how their body works properly!

Good basic information for the dancer or teacher
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-20
This book covers, in a brief way, some of the orthopedic problems encountered by dancers in their training. It gives basic advice on developing a conditioning program for dancers. These topics are covered in greater depth in other resources (for example, Dance Technique and Injury Prevention by Justin Howse; and Dance Kinesiology by Sally Fitt). The most valuable sections come towards the end of the book. It covers basic things that athletic trainers know, but may not be known to the dancer or dance instructor. For example, treatment protocols for common injuries. It goes into taping techniques for many situations. This is particularly valuable.

The Dancer's Foot Book is awesome for Dancer's of any level

Review Date: 2000-10-01
I have danced my entire life and often I would get an injury and simply ignore it or treat it how I would a simple sore muscle or cramp. This book gives a complete encyclapedic dictionary of common "dancer" injuries and how to remedy them. It has proved to be a very helpful reference book for me on a daily basis. This book is easy to understand and even easier to use, this book will help anyone with basic foot problems, it isn't just for dancers.

A thoroughly 'user friendly' guide

The collaborative work of Edwin S. Iversen (Professor of Marine Science at the University of Miami Rosentiel School of Marine and Atomospheric Science for 37 years) and Renate H. Skinner (who earned her Ph.D in biological oceanography as a student of Dr. Iversen and ultimately became a district biologist for the State of Florida in Key Largo), "Dangerous Sea Life Of The West Atlantic, Caribbean, And Cult Of Mexico" is a compendium of toxic and otherwise dangerous sea creatures, each of which is superbly illustrated with color photography. These dangerous creatures are organized into sections showcasing species that bit, species that sting, species dangerous to eat, pest that harm swimmers, toxic mucus-secreting species, fish beak and processing injuries, and a very special section on human/animal interactions at modern tourist attractions such as Sea World. "Dangerous Sea Life" is an essential, strongly recommended reference, not just because of its identifications and descriptions, but also because is services as a thoroughly 'user friendly' guide to accident prevention and first aid when coming into contact with them. Anyone who uses the waters of the West Atlantic, the Caribbean, and/or the Gulf of Mexico for recreational, professional, or educational purposes should obtain and keep handy their very own copy of "Dangerous Sea Life".

Deployment

Review Date: 2008-03-30
Embattled, feeling victimized and entitled, many patients once again seek out help despite previous years of unsuccessful psychotherapy or analysis. Feeling frozen and unable to change and putting up a seemingly impenetrable wall of resistance, such patients are among the most difficult to reach. In this original work, Israeli psychologist Rena Moses-Hrushovski describes her therapeutic endeavors with such patients. She discovered in many such people a specific form of narcissistic character resistance she terms deployment. Deployment is a vigilant use of the balances of interpersonal power designed to ward off intolerable feelings, predominantly of envy, shame, and guilt. Patients who use deployment put themselves in the role of the victim and then battle against perceived injustice, abuse, and oppression for the right to be understood and accepted. Such patients often expect the therapist to take responsibility for their suffering.

In addition to exploring deployment as a kind of self organization, Dr. Moses-Hrushovski details her formulation of treatment approaches that enable her to builds bridges to these patients and help them uncover and live with the feeling states that they are desperately trying to ward off

This excellent text covers all relevent musculoskeletal pathologies that PTs are likely to encounter in daily practice. Winkel brilliantly discusses pathology, functional examination, and treatment for all conditions. I highly recommend this resource for therapists/trainers/physicians interested in non-operative orthopedic medicine.

Definitive Up to Date Review of Treatment of Distal Radius Fractures
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-25
This issue of hand clinics is like a cookbook for treatment of distal radius (colles) fractures. It covers the diagnosis of these fractures and all of the currently used methods of treatment from casting to external fixation to almost every possible variation of internal fixation. Some nice chapters on salvage osteotomy and fusion also in the book.

A must have for the bookshelf of any surgeon treating distal radius fratures.

Excellent Textbook
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-12
This is an excellent text for all persons involved in the field management of diving injuries. A clear and concise format. It not only provides the "basic" treatments but also the "advanced" treatments for dive emergencies. This will be the required textbook for my "Advanced Diver Medical Technician" program I teach in Roatan, Honduras. The publisher indicated to me that a second edition would be out in the Spring of 2000, where is it? This is a "must have" book in your diving medicine library.
