Easy read with good and detailed explanations on injuries, prevention and rehabilitation. It is a medium level course book, meaning you should be familiar with human anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology...but if your studying physical therapy and you're not just beginning then this text may not be satisfying...

DRUG-INDUCED nephropathy is of great interest given the
ever-growing number of medications, including herbal, that patients are taking. Also, it has become apparent that there are several environmental and industrial toxins thatcan cause nephropathy. Clinical Nephrotoxins: Renal Injury From Drugs and Chemicals is a hardcover book that explores the mechanisms by which medications, environmental toxins, and industrial
toxins can cause renal disease. The book is a 712-page, 35-chapter work, written by 95 international authors.

Most chapters have contributions from multiple authors and provide very good, up-to-date information and a very thorough reference list. Most of the chapters flow very well, often commenting (when applicable) on clinical manifestations, pathology, pathophysiology of renal injury (known or suspected),
and preventive measures. However, I will say that a couple of chapters did not follow this form, and I was slightly disappointed with these chapters. All chapters have figures and tables, including pictures of biopsies, when applicable. I found the figures and tables to be quite helpful and aided in my understanding of the topic being presented.
Overall, this book provides a very good overview on the mechanisms of drug- and toxin induced nephropathy.Up-to-date information on current clinically relevant medications (including herbal) and worldwide environmental and industrial toxins is provided. It would be a welcome addition to any health care provider's collection of reference books.

Anyone who has trained and used supplements for many years knows that when you see a "supplement guide" you have to wonder about its credibility. Most "supplement guides" are nothing more than supplement ads disguised in book or magazine form. They bash all supplements except the ones they make and sell.
This book is the real deal. The author bases all of his recommendations off of legitimate research, and yes it is very well referenced. He explains thoroughly the claims made and what the research says about the substance under test conditions. He also makes recommendations for different types of athletes not just bodybuilders. He covers many of the popular supplements and also vitamins and minerals. He covers anabolic steroids and recreational drugs as well.
If I had to find any fault with this book it would be the fact that its 2 years old. There are many new trendy supplements out now that need to be reviewed. Please Mr. Ratamess its time for the 2nd edition. Otherwise this book is a really good reference.

A Must Have Book For Emergencies

The first time I came across this book was in a first aid class. At the time, I thought the book was very well written and the graphics were extremely helpful. After finishing the course, I put the book away in my library.

About two years ago, I went camping with my friends. This was my first outing in a very long time and by chance, I carried this book along. Thank God I had this book with me because we were involved in an accident which could have been potentially life threatening. If it wasn't for this book, I'm sure that my friend would not be here today.

Hopefully this book will come back "in-print". But have this book so that you know what to do when a disaster strikes (earthquakes, hurricanes, accidents, etc.)

Don Kirkendall is a doc that really has "been there and done that." This book provides super information, based on studies and years of experience from the youth to national team level on what comprises soccer fitness, how to improve it, and how to test for it. The section on injury prevention alone is worth the cover price. This is a great way for club and high school coaches, in particular, to get up to date with the latest in exercise physiology as it relates to soccer. It's a much more user friendly book than Jens Bangsbo's excellent, but way down in the physiological weeds, book.

This book was one of the required texts in our OT and Biomechanics class. I am currently an OT student on Fieldwork). This book contains an abundance of useful information. Although it was published in 1992, it has great value. The 17 chapters are: Functional Anatomy; Wound Healing; Clinical Evaluation; Sensibility Testing; Functional Evaluation; Wound Management; Therapeutic Exercise; Physical Agents & Electrotherapy Techniques; Splinting; Skeletal Injuries; Nerve Injuries; Tendon Injuries; Rheumatoid Arthritis; Cumulative Trauma; Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy; Traumatic Injuries of the Hand (crush injuries & amputations); Returning the Hand-Injured Patient to Work. In addition, there are appendixes that include procedure for taking volumetric, goniometric, and strength measurements. While you do need more detailed for modalities, splinting, exercise, and gonimetric measurements, this book is a helpful review of these topics. The entire book is well-organized throughout( i.e.any subheadings, etc.) which makes it an even more valuable reference and study tool. There are some good colored pictures depicting wounds, lots of black and white pictures depicting various treatments. The book also contains lots of good treatment ideas as well. Case studies at end of appropriete chapters do a great job of tying all the material in a chapter together. I feel this book should be a part of the professional library of any student or practicing OT.
