an insight and reminder of what is culturally "an ordinary American"Review Date: 2007-08-20
An excellent work; wish it could be expandedReview Date: 2007-07-25
Written by a psychologist from Harvard Medical School, only treats Greek-, Jewish-, Italian-, and WASP Americans, using case studies, some of individuals and some of "mixed" marriages (made up of the preceding [sub]cultures). Valuable because it treats a subject regarded by some as a blindspot in the American social sciences, but doesn't ride the hobby horse of political correctness or engage in a polemical denunciation of "mainstream" American culture (but *doesn't* pathologize non-mainstream ones either).
Very readable (I read it in two days); also broken up into different sections so you don't need to read it straight through if you're only interested in certain parts. The author has a barebones website at [..], although it relates primarily to his current clinical practice.
One of those books that's full of common sense, unless you don't believe such a thing exists.

Pocket and Reference BookReview Date: 2001-11-17
Most imaging books on trauma are either written by the physicians for the physicians or the radiologists for the radiologists.
Fortunately, this book provides the best of both worlds. Easy to read and explanation provided that gives meaning to why we do this and that in our facilities.
Perhaps an update would include more radiographs or line drawings which would make reading easier.
All you ever need while on dutyReview Date: 2001-06-20
There are useful tables and best of all recommendations on the types of view (plain radiographs) that would be appropriate for each situation. In addition, highlighting the advantages of using a particular view.
There are overviews, on how to improve and reduce risk of missing abnormalities on films taken at the emergency department.
Overall, the book is divided into chapters that are sensible that makes referencing easy. I would recommend this book for physicians (especially trauma), nurses, technologists and interns/housemans.

Fascinating...Review Date: 2007-06-01
A medical book that reads like a mysteryReview Date: 2002-01-26
This account is illuminating and very easy to read, even for a neophyte like me without medical training. One piece of advice: read the appendix on the spinal cord before and after injury before you read the rest of the book.

JacketsReview Date: 2008-02-27
But when looking at the 3rd party sellers know this: the book does not come with a dust jacket, for some reason some sellers are making a point of it as if it were supposed to.
Since this book is somewhat of a collectable item - as far as art books are concerned - the craftsmanship and printing processes are some of the best I've seen, the images themselves from what I gather are actual lithographs. So essentially these images are only thrice removed from Goya's own hands - somewhat tampered with by the 'middlemen' as it were.
Just know, a dust jacket doesn't exist for this edition.
Brilliant, sadistic, terribly funnyReview Date: 2006-10-29
I'm an artist--not an art critic. And while I usually go for the stuff that makes me think, it's impossible to resist stuff that makes me smile this much. Perhaps the Chapmans themselves are commenting on the modern art scene: hey, they say, quit taking all this so seriously.
