Inhalants Books

I read this book new and several times since. I've given away a few copies which is why I'm here on Amazon again. I hope they don't run out.
I WROTE CONSUMERS REPORT a while back about publishing an updated edition. They didn't respond.

As the other reviewers say, this book is hands down, the best book on drug history available. Unlike other books about the history of drugs and drug policy (i.e., Musto), this book is not dry. It covers most drugs, including licit drugs (which is very important), and this man has great insight. This is the right way to write about drug policy. I have no idea why this book was never reprinted; it is truly the best drug book that exists.

I read this book in the early '80s. I say that it helped me survive my period of drug experimentation. Now as a father I don't endorse the use of drugs but I do recommend this book so that the reader could make an informed choice.

Even though this book is nearly 30 years old, everything it says about the drug problem is still relevant today.

This publication outlined a clear-cut set of recommendations that if adhered to, today's drug problems would have become a long forgotten memory.

This book is a must for the collection.

I went through alot of 'Drug Education'. I thought I knew something. I didn't. I learned more in one night from this book than I did in 18 years of being a youth in the Drug War. Read this cover to cover and now try to get everyone I know to read it.

This book by Ms. McCage was very useful and informative. It has a lot of valuable information for people of all ages. I highly recommend this book to any and everyone who wants to be more in the know concerning Inhalants.

This book provides up to date information on inhalants and is written in a language that is clear and easy to understand. As volatile solvents are found in common chemicals and many household products, this book is especially important for all.

The book is presented in straightforward manner. The author opens with an overview of inhalants, where she answers the question, "What are inhalants?" This chapter shows the reader that inhalants make up over 1400 legally obtained household products and are, ironically, one of the least studied drugs. The second chapter provides an engaging history of inhalant abuse. From the ancient Greeks to 19th century doctors and academics to volatile solvent abusers in World War II, this chapter illustrates the long history of inhalant abuse in the world. Chapter three describes the properties of inhalants, while chapter four explains the way inhalants act on the body. Particularly interesting in this chapter is the explanation of the reward pathways in the brain. Chapter five looks at the types of abusers and issues of dependence and withdrawal. Chapter six is a very useful chapter as it deals with the consequences of abuse. The short and long term effects of abusing inhalants are made clear in this chapter. Chapter seven presents very a dynamic collection of trends and data on use of inhalants, while the last chapter focuses on treatment and prevention.

Vivid diagrams, charts and photos supplement all of the chapters. It is clear that the author has taken care to make sure that the charts and images are relevant and useful. Ms. Lobo has taken care to present her information in a factual matter while maintaining a crisp and engaging voice. The book is presented in a way that allows the readers to take the information and process the data on their own.

Having worked in community outreach with K-12 students and educators, I believe this book should be an essential part of 7-12 grade libraries. I highly recommend it to parents as well!

In searching for sources on inhalents for a research paper, this was the single best source I could find. Excellent history, discussion of chemistry and how solvents act in the body, medical complications, and behavioral affects. The book is weak in epidemeology, and does not address treatment at all. However, it is a good starting point from which to build your knowledge base. Easy to read.

THIS BOOK WAS THE WORST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. I DONT KNOW WHY IT WAS PUBLISHED IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SUBJECT OF THE TITLE.IT DID HOWEVER TELL YOU WHAT CHEMICALS TO USE TO FRY YOUR BRAIN BUT THAts just not for me

Something smelly about this book. Ha! Anyhow, get an old Ramones album and inhale deeply for much more fun!
