This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone struggling with infertility. It was recommended to my husband and I by a couple who has struggled with infertility for 5 years and who are still childless. We have just begun our journey with fertility treatments and this book was so helpful. I refer to it a lot when talking to my family about the struggle of being "infertile". I also really enjoyed the personal stories and journal entries from women and men that are included in the book. This book validated a lot of the emotions I have been having and that was important to me.

A much-needed encouragement

Couples who are struggling with infertility already understand the pain, loneliness, grief, and, yes, resentment and bitterness that comes with the experience. Cindy Dake offers hope through the gospel of Christ from a fellow-traveller, and it is a much-needed encouragement to the couples. This book is packed with practical knowledge, but other books can give that information. Its real strength is in relating that knowledge with biblical points. For instance, how does a Christian decide when to stop infertility treatments? What factors should be considered with medical treatment, adoption, or child-free living? Mrs. Dake doesn't make those decisions for you, but she makes sure you are aware of your options and factors that should go into making those decisions. A chapter is spent relating stories of infertility from the Bible, which is a faith builder to those of us feeling like we are alone in this experience. I also appreciate how the book is written to friends and family of the infertile couple, to help them be able to better minister to their loved ones.

I recommend this book to all of my friends dealing with infertilty!

This book helped me tremendously. It addressed issues that most women do not go through after miscarriage being that it speaks to women who have miscarried after infertility. I highly recommend it.

A wonderful new conception myth

Review Date: 2000-01-05
Karen Propp, a poet, teacher, and, with the help of infertility treatment, the mother of a young son, set out to write *The Pregnancy Project: Encounteers With Reproductive Technology*, in part to create "a new conception myth," but she's done much more: written a memoir that manages to be simultaneously intimate and discreet, a generous description of her own difficult, and ultimately successful quest to have a child via the miracles and dehumanizing horrors of infertility treatment. Her clarity, honesty, capacity to combine feeling and analysis, as well as her thorough explanations of the technology (these not for the faint of heart) are a gift to people struggling with infertility, and to those who love and care for them. Propp writes, "In years to come, when we tell our children the story of how they got here, the petri dish and the ultrasound will be coequal with the birds and the bees." This beautifully written book will be one of the important sources of that new story.

I found this book very fine and very moving. While in infertility treatment, I chose my reading material carefully. I wanted nothing that would discourage me or make me depressed. The Pregnancy Project helped me get through treatment with its positive spin. I compare it to The Empty Lap and A Little Pregnant. Thank you, Karen.

Incredibly Personal and Informative

This has always been a topic which I have not seen touched upon by anyone outside of the medical field. Having experienced the frustration of infertility with many close friends and relatives I was more than curious to read this book. It was personal, heartwarming and well written. The information was invaluable and by the time I was done I felt I had been on that roller coaster with Tracey and her husband. This book is proof that the best sources of information and the solutions that accompany them is from the people who have experienced it themselves. This book was well written and I would recommend it to anyone, it was a wonderful life lesson.

Wow, what insight!

This book provides a in depth look into the journey of infertility. I have friends who are riding a similar roller coaster at this very moment. This book will give them hope and courage. I would highly recommend reading Searching for Inspiration on the Infertility Roller Coaster...it is powerful to understand what others may be faced with even if we are not experiencing it firsthand ourselves. A valuable resource for any women/family who needs direction in making their parenthood dreams a reality.

Ann's desire to conceive was so overwhelming.

I had not met anyone who has suffered so much torture time and time again and yet never gave up and it never even was on her mind to turn bitter towards God. Although Ann was so hurt by God's answers in her life she still kept Him as a Best friend. Although all she asked for was something so normal the answer was always "no". She still loved God and trusted Him with everything she had, all that she was and all she could be was for His honor and glory regardless of the trials and sufferings that were coming her way. Her deepest most profound desire was her childhood dream, to be a mother. It was costing her so much pain and grief for something that to others was a piece of cake. Her desire to hold her own baby was so overwhelming, but the Lord still said "no". She suffered so gravely for a child to call her own. In the mean time her husband was great always making her feel worthy and loved, always reassuring her. The Lord listened to her needs and saw her floods of tears but He wanted her to realize that He should be her first Love. Ann realized this after so much torture and gave herself to the Lord completely, it was then that the Lord blessed her with a child that she would call her own.

Ann Kiemel Anderson has written her "tour-de-force," which is her struggle to have a child of her own. In her own words she describes all the feelings she had along the journey, and she writes not only with her heart on her sleeve, but with a great deal of vulnerability as well.

For 35 years, she had been a successful career woman, living at a hectic pace writing books and speaking across the world about God at work in her life and in the lives of others. She found time to start running and became so good, she competed in marathons. Then she found the "love of her life" - Will Anderson, and she was overjoyed at the thought of sharing her life and developing the close bonds of marriage and motherhood.

She carefully lays her story before you in this book, and it's written in her unorthodox style, but the story is much different from all the other stories you may have read about her, because it tells of God's refining fire in her life.

Highly recommended!!!

A Must Have For Families Expecting or With New Multiples
Helpful Votes: 16 out of 16 total.
Review Date: 2003-02-15
Triplefun is the story of a courageous woman and her struggle to survive and flourish with the extraordinary welcoming of triplets. Lia Shackelford gives good advice, handy tips and interesting ideas to make life more bearable with the onslaught of an instant family. She uses humor to disclose the real trials within a marriage that are inevitable among new triplet families. She is honest about her fears, which alone takes courage, but in the end chooses life over comfort or even what may be the valid concerns of women involved in such complicated pregnancies.
As a mother of 4 year old triplets myself, I can honestly say that this book would be a bona fide treasure to anyone expecting or in the company of new multiples. It also gives insights into the world of multiples for anyone who may be a family member of the mother or father of triplets or more. I wish I could make my family read it! It would have been nice if her book were around when I was pregnant. Alas, there is a genuine shortage of useful books for mothers of more than twins - as it is so much more. The only thing I might add would be that three swings are a must for some families, especially those with more than just higher order multiples.
This book is a great buy for the average multiple mommy who wants to struggle less to find her own answers when answers can be found by simply reading.

Ms. Shackelford's straight forward, upbeat style of writing and amazing honesty in telling about her and her husband's struggles to become a family make tripleFun an awe inspiring book. And one that is sure to strike a chord with readers of any age or family experience. After all, who isn't secretly fascinated with multiple births. Whether it's twins, triples, quads, etc. giving birth to and caring for so many at once seems not only unbelievable, but impossible to those of us who are without children or had the standard one at a time. My hat off to Ms. Shackelford and all parents of multiples. Now how about book two - the toddler years. And more pictures of Amanda, Michaela and Trevor.

This book helped me enormously with mental and physical aspects of infertility. The author gives so much great advice on all the different issues which are so challenging to people going through infertility. She covers everything from prayer, adoption choices, accupuncture, herbs, vitamins, and all different sorts of infertility treatments. It was refreshing to read a book written by a patient rather than a doctor. I learned a lot and this book inspired me to not give up!

After hearing my wife's gynecologist mention more Lupron shots, Gonadotrophins and a second Laroscopy, I was desperately seeking more information on Endometriosis. That's when I bought this book. And our lives have changed for good, forever. This book lead us to a doctor practising Homeopathy. After starting treatment, my wife's cyst is gone, her periods are totally painless, and guess what - she got pregnant too! Can't thank the authors enough.

Review Date: 2000-08-15
Lucinda Veeck has again provided the embryologist with a magnificent collection of photographs depicting every possible scenario faced within the in vitro fertilization laboratory. From oocyte to blastocyst, every stage beautifully depicted, with excellent narrative. This collection is a vital tool for training the eye of junior embryologists as well as a welcome resource for experienced laboratorians needing a second opinion. I wouldn't want to be without this book!
