A buffet of ideas for coping and communicating

The book has a "buffet" of ideas of techinques for dealing with the stresses of infertility. Ideas include practical communication starters, and thought-provoking ways of looking at your partner's and your own needs and communication styles. Some ideas I left on the buffet table. With some others, I piled my plate high!

Useful for anyone who is just starting out or well along the infertility treatment path, and is finding it stressful (and you'd be hard pressed not to).

Thanks to Love and Infertility I'm back in control of my emotions and communicating better with my husband! We now have our own elevator speech and I'm much more comfortable in social situations. We're also using the gratitude list to combat our negative feelings of being childless. I recommend this book to anyone battling infertility!

If you are wiling to better you life there are many ways of doing it. The simplest way to do it is to learn from people who have done it.
This book has brought a new joy in my life. Magical Notebook is straight to the point of all the principles that everyone needs to know and recognize within themselves to live a better life.
The book was motivational, inspirational and smart. The author shares her point of views from her life experiences; it was nice relating to a real person who has had the same issues in life as most of us do. "Control your life instead of being controlled by life" I love this quote from the book.

I am really delighted that I bought this book. I wish I had read a book like this years ago. I wish this were a mandatory course in school. I have learned so much about myself its unbelievable. I am excited and enlighten in so many ways. I feel like I have just met myself. I am clear on what I want and how to get what I want. I did all the exercises in the book and I feel extremely lighter. I feel as if a huge weight has come off of my shoulders. I really want to thank the author for creating such a tremendous book. It was really a Magical Notebook for me.

After reading this book, I bought five more to give to my friends and family members who are constantly unhappy with their lives. This book made so much sense to me, there are some fundamental rules that each person should live by. When people live a life with out purpose or when they don't know their passions, then life can be very confusing. I love the way the author is written this book, she is talking to you as you are a friend and her advices are very real and accurate. I answered all the questions that she had asked in the book and it was awesome, I got to remind myself of the entire thing I knew that I didn't do anymore. Absolutely awesome!

One of the best books I have ever read

This was an amazing self-discovery for me. I discovered what I want out of life. I learned what it is that's holding me back in life, like all my fears and I got to analyze my life and figure out why I am not happy. I loved this book because it has spaces in every chapter so you can actually write down your thoughts and there are so many great questions she asks in the book that really makes you think. By the time I finished the book I felt as I had a huge load off of me. I am clear on what I want and how to go after what I want. I recommend this book highly for people that are not where they want to be in life or people that are unhappy with their lives. It is also a very easy read, which I liked.

Doctors and clinical professors at the UCLA School of Medicine, Arthur L. Wisot and David R. Meldrum have expertly collaborated to create a comprehensive and thoroughly "reader friendly" 360-page introductory guide to In Vitro Fertilization and other assisted reprouction techniques. Intended especially to educate those considering such fertility procedures, Conceptions & Misconceptions covers common causes of infertility, tests that infertile couples seeking treatment need to undergo, the risks and preparations needed for multiple births, alternative treatments for infertility, and much more. A straightforward, down-to-earth "must-read" for any couple seeking information on this often difficult or painful subject.

I thought I would provide a brief review of Dr. Wisot and Dr. Meldrum's book "Conceptions & Misconceptions" for those of you wondering if it is worth purchasing. I have already read half of the book and I think it is wonderful. I wish I had this book about one year ago to help me through this confusing and difficult process. The content is very helpful and written in a way that makes the information less confusing and overwhelming. What I have found is that a lot of the questions are answered in the book. I do recommend it to everyone.

Must Have Book for Assisted Reproduction

Conceptions & Misconception is truly the "must have" book for any couple faced with assisted reproduction. Whether you are just starting out and wondering if you should see your doctor about your difficulties conceiving or whether you have been at it for a while and have seen your fair share of doctors with little to show for your efforts, this book will offer you insight, information, perspective and most importantly, hope.

Drs. Wisot and Meldrum explain every aspect of the conception process both as it should be in nature as well as the way it often is with assistance from medicine. They provide detailed yet simple explanations of the various medications, procedures and protocols that one may encounter during their treatment. Most importantly, they provide patients with the knowledge necessary for them to be "informed consumers", able to sit down with their doctors and ask the intelligent, relevant and critical questions in order to arrive at the best course of action to meet their situations, needs and expectations. This book will provide you with the information to genuinely be partner in your treatment.

If you are not fortunate enough to live in the California area and be treated by these fine doctors, this is the next best thing!

I was really surprised at how much this book covers!!!
The food advice is invaluable- esp. in increasing Dad's fertility. I love how it also warned about the enviromental factors that lead to decreased fertility for both Mom/Dad-to-be. After reading this, I didn't let dh apply the pesticides/herbicides to our yard anymore.
The book isn't magic, but it sure can help.

Ascetically, it is very pleasing to touch and read, even though it is older now.

Recommend to anyone considering conceiving.

This book has a lot of good info. It has a lot of straight to the point facts and numbers. If you worry a lot like me this book will give you good info but don't take the statistics to heart. It does cover a lot of areas of concern and things you wonder about when you and your partner are considering having a baby. Things to do things to not to and how to prepare your body for pregnancy.

Without anybody or anything to guide me I came across this book and went to see it in person before I bought it. Not only did the colorful pictures illustrate ideas and concepts nicely, but the layout of the book makes this an easy read. I couldn't put it down! I found myself amazed at all the things I learned about the female body. Oh, I can't forget the male body too, that's just as important. One side note, the book talks about possible complications during pregnancy and since I already have high blood pressure, I started to get a little anxiety reading the part about pre eclampsia, a condition you can have during pregnancy (high blood pressure). So when you read this part, just take it with a grain of salt. Otherwise, the book is great and gives you much knowledge on how to conceive, the best time, how to chart it out, etc. This book went beyond my expectations. I'm glad I read it now since I can take some of the advice and become healthy now for our unborn child. I would recommend it to anybody thinking about trying to have a baby.

This is a wonderfully touching book that really touched my heart and soul. Lena used Bible passages along with her life experience to bring the book to life. It is one of the few books which talks in depth about a couple's struggle to have a child. This book will make a great gift for couples that are having trouble having kids and will inspire them to keep trying. If you only buy one book this is definitely the one to own!

When reading this book (For This Child We Prayed) by Lena Marie Fields-Arnold I was totally blown away on how she openly spoke about so many things in life that we so take for granted. I loved the fact that she used biblical verses when relaying her message. She had me laughing so hard one time I had to run to the bath room for relief. This is the second time I've purchased a copy of this book, I gave one copy to a co-worker who is going through what Mrs. Arnold and her family went through. I just wanted her to know that she's not alone and to keep the faith. I must also say that I was so impressed with the writing of this book that I sent a letter and e-mail to the Oprah Winfrey Show asking her and/or her staff to take a look at it and maybe make it a part of her book club. Mrs. Arnold I wish you and your family the best as I await more of your books. Thanks for helping me any many like me keep the faith. God Bless.

The assumption often is that if a woman or man cannot have children; it must not only be God's will, but true evidence of God's wrath in action. In For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility, Lena Arnold dispels this horrendous misconception through personal insight, and reflection. In her struggle to have children, she invites us to journey with her. It is a tremendous journey, which takes us through the heartache of a crying, barren womb to sitting with Hannah in the scriptures as she bargains with God for a child...to the man at the pool of Bethesda who experienced the miracle of Christ's healing...to her own personal thoughts as she writes to her future children like Celie wrote to Nettie in Alice Walker's book "The Color Purple." Anyone who has a promise or a dream can benefit from For This Child We Prayed, it teaches you that faith can help you wait as you believe, no matter how long it takes.

Fully Fertile is an amazing book because it challenged and encouraged me to look at my fertility journey differently. It guided me through easy to follow chapters on meditation, yoga, diet, prayer, etc. that give examples and exercises that can actually be done (for those of us who weren't necessarily comfortable with such things before). I was lucky to be part of the pilot program, and would highly recommend this book to all who are trying to have a baby. For an even better experience I would recommend reading this book with a group of women as a book club so that you can have discussions about the different chapters as you are going through. There are resources in the book to help you find practitioners for different services, and information if you are trying to start a group. Fully Fertile is a heartfelt book that is not only good for fertility preparedness, but also for life.

And even if you're not successful in getting pregnant, the information shared in the book will assist in leading a healthy lifestyle. Thank you, Beth and Tami, for using your gifts and sharing them with others. Namaste.

Acupuncture, yoga, nutritional information, meditation and the words of this book allowed me to find balance and peace again. I'm eternally thankful for this book!

Often when hearing the bible stories we think of the characters as far off, distant, and hard to identify with. This book closes the gap. It explains how we can relate to the matriarchs, how we can get a glimpse of what they went through and what we can learn from them in a practical way. I would definately recomend it.

The tone of this book is at once incredibly honest and deeply warm and empathetic; it feels like having a conversation about a painful subject with a friend who really wants to help you find some clarity. The tone is chatty, peppered with jokes and anecdotes to ease you through difficult subjects. The ideas and various points really stay with you, following you as you move back out into the world after reading it. Her analysis of various Biblical figures is interesting and novel, and opens up the area further.
I personally found this book incredibly useful in beginning to approach all of the complicated emotions that are aroused by infertility. I think, as a side point, its worth reading even if you don't share a particular Biblical orientation with the author. I have never read a book quite like this one on the subject.

Move Over Dr. Ruth. The Jungle King Has Roared!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-14
WOW is the first word that comes to mind when I think about Paul Adcock's "Jungle King Secrets." Do not dismiss this book as something for sex-crazed people. Even if you have no interest in improving your sex life, you will find this book fascinating and full of information to improve your health and raise your energy. The book is primarily geared toward the male reader, but women will find many helpful suggestions as well.

Paul Adcock wants a better sex life for himself and for you and me. But what he also wants that makes this book so effective is for us to be healthy, for us to enjoy our bodies the way nature intended. A better sex life does not come from using Viagra or watching pornography as the media would have us believe. A better sex life comes from increasing our energy by exercising properly, eating nutritious foods, and being responsible for one's own thoughts and desires rather than letting advertisements tell us what we need.

"Jungle King Secrets" is impressive for multiple reasons. Its strongest asset is Adcock's extensive research on nutrition, food supplements, and the current food and drug industry. Most of what we currently eat, the drugs we put in our bodies, the processed food, the alcohol, cigarettes, medications, all have harmful effects on our sex lives, causing "chemical castration," shrunken genitals, low sperm counts, and erectile dysfunction. Viagra is not the answer. Nor are some of the ridiculous and dangerous products on the market such as pumps that claim to increase penis size. Adcock exposes the poisonous aspects of all these products, and then through extensive research, he details numerous nutritional supplements and foods that are far more effective and health-friendly. Adcock has personally experimented with all these products--and the list is amazing. It includes everything from bee pollen to sexual spices, ways for men to increase testosterone and to decrease estrogen. He also provides penile exercises and massages to increase one's erection stamina. While you may not be ready to run out and buy all the ingredients to make Paul Adcock's erotic elixir superfoods such as Jungle Juice or Bliss Balls, you may find one supplement to start with. Most importantly, you will come to a better understanding of how seriously our health and food has been compromised by our industrial environment and by government agencies intended to protect us such as the FDA.

After reading "Jungle King Secrets," I found myself no longer blindly wanting to eat processed food but paying attention to what I eat. I have also learned to question the medical establishment. Adcock reveals the fallacies of our industrial-medical complex, which wants to medicate your problem rather than fix the root cause of it. I have experienced this situation myself where doctors are more willing to give me pills to treat symptoms than talk to me about my diet and how I can help my own health issues naturally. The medical establishment has much to lose--billions of dollars--by letting the American public be healthy. The Federal Food and Drug Administration, as Adcock states, is even involved to the point where they are considering making juices be prescribed medications. If we allow the government to continue down this road, they will own and control our bodies--this may seem like a paranoid exaggeration, but already our public schools advocate putting our children on ritalin, the FDA has approved all kinds of preservative ingredients in food that cause numerous health problems, and our cities have put fluoride into our drinking water. Fluoride can case serious problems by its ingestion, but because the American Dental Association and city governments fear being sued, this decision and many similar ones fail to be reversed. Shouldn't we have a choice what is in our drinking water?

Adcock rationally discusses sexual methods and the danger of pornography and excessive sex. He is a firm believer in the Taoist understanding of sex as part of the energy life force, and he advocates longer, more loving and meaningful sex rather than sexual practices focused on bringing people to an energy-draining climax. Ultimately, sexual energy can be harnessed, not just for recreation and procreation, but to create physical rejuvenation and psycho-spiritual illumination. Added bonuses to "Jungle King Secrets" are dozens of wonderful cartoons that carry the messages home to the reader. Also included are over forty pages of sources, both websites and print publications, for further reading, and a sixteen-page glossary.

"Jungle King Secrets" made me reevaluate my own lifestyle and diet, and I am convinced any reader will do the same. Whether you want a fantastic sex life, or you just want to feel better, "Jungle King Secrets" can satisfy your desires. For more information, visit the author's website www.JungleKing.biz or the publisher www.lovinghealing.com.

In "Jungle King Secrets, A Libido - Liberating Lifestyle For Superior Sexual Satisfaction" by Paul Adcock the reader will find a different way to look at the causes and solutions for Male Impotence. So often in our culture today the blame for any dysfunction in sexuality is often placed on the individual and the medical community has little to offer and often only serves to hinder the sufferer. This book chapter by chapter lays out the causes of Impotence from environmental, physical, stress, and dietary. It explains what men can do to retain or even regain their sexual prowess. As a woman reader I found this book to be educational and informative. I felt that the author spent a great deal of time doing research and included a rather comprehensive list of endnotes as one of the appendices. The information was thorough and complete. The writing style at times seemed a bit preachy but the subject matter seemed to warrant it. Many of the problems that are confronting all of us are because we have been indoctrinated by a corporate system to not think for ourselves. It is, I feel necessary for us to be preached at a bit to sit up and listen to information that we might not otherwise hear.
Following the advice that has been thoroughly laid out in this book will not only assist men in their desire to maintain their Jungle King status it will improve their overall health and lifestyle. Women as will would be served by reading this book. It teaches good health and lifestyle principles and it also will teach women more about the men they love. I recommend it.

I was not able to find much information on the author except the fact that he was born in Detroit, Michigan and now resides in a suburb of the same. "Jungle King Secrets" happens to be his first book but I am sure it will not be his last.

Does size matter? Find out in Paul Adcock's book "Jungle King Secrets"--his detailed study of this and many more life-enhancing questions are answered in this 251-page volume. His main thrust is on how to improve your love life through the use of diet and exercise. He speaks of "World Class Wellness" and shows how to handle that ever-growing concern among men, "the erection." Mr. Adcock describes how nutrition of the body relates to our sexual prowess in, "Factory-Farming and Sexual Function." He instructs the reader in the proper use of nutrition and even better, what not to eat or do for sexual superiority; which food and drinks to avoid and others to eat more of. Not smoking was at the top of the list along with overindulgence. Paul cautions everyone on the dangers of smoking and emphasizes the fact that too much wine can hinder a man's performance. I could sympathize with what he means here and I am sure I'm not alone when I say, "it doesn't help a man's partner to overindulge either."

Further on, Paul explains the dangers of sexual pharmaceuticals. The risks involved in taking so-called, erection-amplifying drugs or aphrodisiacs. Such libido enhancers have hidden chemicals that are detrimental to the human body and Mr. Adcock cautions the reader on their use and abuse. One of my personal favorite chapters was, "The Secret of the Sexual Super Heroes." Mr. Adcock refers to the "Grand Master Tu Jin-Sheng" and the teachings of "Taoism." "Taoism" is not a political doctrine but rather a wisdom tradition. Followers observed the organic lifestyle and learned to harness the life force of creation called "energy cultivation (Qi Gong)." They learned that this practice made it possible for them to be more sexually superior and less susceptible to sickness and disease.

The power of sex is exemplified in this very well-documented and researched book. How Mr. Adcock was able to compile so much helpful information into only 251 pages is amazing. I had no problem giving this book an A rating. The research was thorough and well documented, the writing was unquestionably well done and "Jungle King Secrets" is a quality product that is well worth reading.

Very informative - highly recommended!

In the beginning of the book, it states "The author wrote this book with the reader's best interest in mind." And that it is. Not knowing what this book is really about I was pleasantly surprised and, at the same time, found it extremely informative. Adcock presents a to-the-point and thorough explanation of the causes of impotency and how to prevent it. At the same time he creates a pleasurable experience.

There are many concepts in the book I have never heard of. For example, research show that one ejaculation consists of nutritional loss equivalent to "two pieces of New York steak, 10 eggs, six oranges, two lemons, and an enormous amount of energy." Adcock further explains that if there aren't enough nutrients in the body, it drains organs, glands, and muscles in order to replace the lost nutrients. He encourages healthy eating as well as adding supplements to the diet.

Adcock, through thorough research, has found that foods such as seeds and nuts are considered to be super-foods and could protect prostate enlargement due to trapping DHT. He further explains how "sexual spices" work, such as ginger that is considered to be an aphrodisiac and cayenne pepper which acts as a sexual stimulant by increasing genital blood flow. He also explains that a supplement such as arginine is often referred to as "nature's Viagra" because it converts into an erectile neurotransmitter nitric oxide. Adcock also explains other supplements that enhance health, therefore enhancing sexual pleasure. These include such things as CoQ10, garlic, bioflavonoids, vitamins C, D, and E, and so on. I don't think he missed any. For each supplement he includes a brief explanation of the properties and why there are essential to a man's health.

"Jungle King Secrets" is full of information, most of it I wasn't aware of. Knowing an unhealthy environment could cause sexual issues, I never considered that industrial chemicals such as pesticides, plastics, sodium lauryl sulfates, parabens and even synthetic colors can be detrimental to my sexual performance. Checking my own cabinet I found the shampoo I was using had sodium laural sulfates in it and according to Adcock this is a cheap way of creating suds. I also noticed paraben in the skin lotion I use.

I love this book! It has provided comfort many times through our infertility journey. It let me know I was not the only one questioning God at times. I have read this book from cover to cover multiple times. In fact, I pulled it out at the doctor's office today while waiting for more testing. Highly recommend this book to anyone who is having difficulty conceiving. It is appropriate for wherever you are in your journey.

We were able to talk about how infertility if affecting both of us. The book was so good I bought it for a friend and now she and her husband are in the process of reading it!

Kathe Wunnenberg's ability to speak to a woman's hurting heart is unparalleled. Her deep love of women and the friendships that God has put into her life have created a rich quilt of stories that you will want to wrap yourself up in! As a childless woman myself, God has used Kathe's insight to comfort me, encourage me, and inspire me. This book will be a regular gift that I will provide to girlfriends who are struggling with childlessness.

Kathe touches the heart of those who are going through the pain of infertility because she has been there. This is not just a book reporting what others are feeling. She captures the heartache because she has born it too. This is a good book for working through current emotions or preparing for future healing. I found the devotional chapters mirrored my own journey of emotions. I highly recommend this to anyone who has dealt with or is dealing with the pain and frustration of infertility. I would also give this as a gift to anyone struggling in this area.

This is a good and concise reference book, but not worth the purchase if you aren't considering doing OB/GYN as a profession. Blueprints is enough to get you through the 3rd year rotation. I would have preferred larger pages to reduce the number of total pages in the book, this way it would have fit better in my white coat pocket. Something to consider for next edition I guess.

I think it is almost equivalent to reading Speroff...saves time and also the questions really help highlight major points.
I wish they had one for the 7th edition Speroff, though.
