I will be bold:there are three outstanding books to which we can recur for a really deep question in Quantum Mechanics:Dirac's "Principles...", Kramers' "Quantum Mechanics" and Pauli's "General Principles of Quantum Mechanics". I will perhaps astonish you by saying that, of the three, Pauli's is the most authoritative. This matches the fact that Wolfgang Pauli was, for many decades, "the conscience of Physics", the oracle, we could say, were it not for the fact that he spoke a very direct language. One went to Pauli to know his reaction to one's "genial" idea. More often than not he demolished the thing. This happened to luminaries like Victor Weisskopf, Uhlenbeck and Gousmit and, yes, Heisenberg! It's a slim book. Actually it first appeared as a chapter of the famous Handbuch der Physik, in German, of course. The translation is fine, but a little IS lost of the author's style. It is an advanced book. You should read it after some good textbook, like Liboff or Griffiths. It will give you organization and perspective. But even if you read Landau's (and Lifshitz') "Quantum Mechanics", you would take profit of it. For you could compare two great masters in action. Pauli's treatment of Dirac equation is superb, and became the standard, including the notation. This is a classic. The very fact that it is still being sold gives me hope.

If you want a book that tells you everything from what T cell is to the incubation period for measles, this book is it.

I learned so much information from this book that I though I "knew" except that when I started reading, I realized I didn't really know. I have always used the words "infectious disease" interchangeably with "communicable disease" and I don't see how I could have gotten this far in my career without knowing something as simple as how to differentiate the two!

Honestly, I would probably buy the whole book just for the chapter on immunity. It was the easiest explanation I've ever seen. Was I supposed to have learned this in school? I sure didn't! I'm not dumb, I'm just not smart enough to get all of the complicated non-clinical mumbo-jumbo. This book made it entirely readable and comprehensible.

I bought this book because I felt I had to. I teach a breastfeeding and lactation course, and I was struggling with simple issues like routes of transmission, and the effectiveness of simple actions to protect the newborn from the mother's disease. I ended up being really intrigued by the material presented, including special features, such as the "Alerts" and the "Case Studies" and the "Newsmakers." Trust me, this author has a great way of making the dull and complicated seem interesting and easy to understand.

This is considered the best foreign language reference for infection control in Brazil and has been used by many generation of infection controllers during and after their fellowship on Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP/São Paulo/Brazil.

A great deal of information presented in a concise, compact format. Excellent charts and diagrams. Best chapters-Instrument Sterilization and Disinfection. Would advise for new Infection Control people.

This book is an excellent source of information regarding common childhood illnesses, the incubation period, transmission of illness, typical treatment/s, and considerations as to whether or not the child should be excluded from daycare or preschool.
This book is a must for daycare providers, as well as parents, and pediatric nurses who perform phone triage.

In 1852, Marhkam left his father's choice, the British Navy, and set out for Peru to study the ruins of the Inca empire. His ten-month sojourn in Peru produced this journal, one of the few surviving accounts of Peru at mid-nineteenth century, and launched Markham on a career that led ultimately to the presidency of the Royal Geographical Society. His journal captures Peru in transition from the colonial past to the modern era. He was one of the first English travelers to visit Cuzco and he also witnessed the waning o f slavery on the great cotton and sugar plantations as modern machinery and Chinese coolie labor were introduced.
