If you want a book that tells you everything from what T cell is to the incubation period for measles, this book is it.

I learned so much information from this book that I though I "knew" except that when I started reading, I realized I didn't really know. I have always used the words "infectious disease" interchangeably with "communicable disease" and I don't see how I could have gotten this far in my career without knowing something as simple as how to differentiate the two!

Honestly, I would probably buy the whole book just for the chapter on immunity. It was the easiest explanation I've ever seen. Was I supposed to have learned this in school? I sure didn't! I'm not dumb, I'm just not smart enough to get all of the complicated non-clinical mumbo-jumbo. This book made it entirely readable and comprehensible.

I bought this book because I felt I had to. I teach a breastfeeding and lactation course, and I was struggling with simple issues like routes of transmission, and the effectiveness of simple actions to protect the newborn from the mother's disease. I ended up being really intrigued by the material presented, including special features, such as the "Alerts" and the "Case Studies" and the "Newsmakers." Trust me, this author has a great way of making the dull and complicated seem interesting and easy to understand.

This is considered the best foreign language reference for infection control in Brazil and has been used by many generation of infection controllers during and after their fellowship on Hospital das Clínicas da FMUSP/São Paulo/Brazil.

A great deal of information presented in a concise, compact format. Excellent charts and diagrams. Best chapters-Instrument Sterilization and Disinfection. Would advise for new Infection Control people.

This book is an excellent source of information regarding common childhood illnesses, the incubation period, transmission of illness, typical treatment/s, and considerations as to whether or not the child should be excluded from daycare or preschool.
This book is a must for daycare providers, as well as parents, and pediatric nurses who perform phone triage.

From the cover: Clements Markham had his own ideas about what his life's work should be. In 1852, Marhkam left his father's choice, the British Navy, and set out for Peru to study the ruins of the Inca empire. His ten-month sojourn in Peru produced this journal, one of the few surviving accounts of Peru at mid-nineteenth century, and launched Markham on a career that led ultimately to the presidency of the Royal Geographical Society. His journal captures Peru in transition from the colonial past to the modern era. He was one of the first English travelers to visit Cuzco and he also witnessed the waning o f slavery on the great cotton and sugar plantations as modern machinery and Chinese coolie labor were introduced.
