I looked around at a lot of baby journals before finally choosing this one for my firstborn son. I liked that it was sweetly childlike, the way Beatrix Potter tends to be, but not cartooney and not too frilly or feminine. There's plenty of room to paste photos from page to page (unlike others I've seen) and a pocket in the back, where I've stored his hospital tags and other mementoes that didn't fit on a page.

I read this book shortly after becoming a step-mother to two preschoolers and while pregnant with my first child. I had no idea what I was doing as a parent, and this book helped me to gain some direction and confidence. I can't wait to read the next two books in the series!

This book is excellent. Give it two thumbs up. It's great for ages 6-14, or maybe 100! This is a funny and exciting book. And it can show how things can seem bad, but turn out good. And great for the whole family! I'll make this short, because noone likes reading long reviews. That's all!

This book is so touching. It reminds you what a special gift your child is and how wonderful children are. I will forever treasure this book. It is a beautiful poem that makes your heart melt, your tears flow and your children know that you think they are the greatest thing in the world. Very well done!

Come on somebody, read this wonderful little tale and write a review. I loved it!!!!!!!! Julie and Phil are new parents whose newborn baby is giving them a fit!!1 Sound familiar? They call an employment agency to hire a Nanny and do they get a doozie. She is beautiful, hardworking and seductive. She can do anything. It is only when she decides to take the job that they hire her. Her references are superlative. She is hired. Every time she picks up the crying baby, he ceases his squalling immediately, which intimidates Phil and JUlie. They both feel like failures. Things start to be suspicious and PHil tries to call some of the references only to hit brick walls for various reasons. He gets more and more suspicious of this perfect Nanny. This is a very exciting book and worth anyone's attention. If the author reads this, let me know if I did a decent job reviewing it????

Not practical for general pediatrics or clinical hematology. More molecular and cellular than i thought it would be. For attendings, libraries, depts. Don't read unless you're going to do a presentation to a bunch of MD PhD's or something like that.

I bought this book when I was expecting my first daughter (in the UK), and it was one of the most comprehensive guides I had. I refered to it again and again, and yet more when I was expecting my second daughter. There wasn't anything I had an issue with that it didn't cover. However, I feel I should add I'd never have relied on the book alone - it's a great supplemental read. Plus, as my mum pointed out to me, re the parenthood part, the baby hasn't read any books so remember it's only a guideline!

This is just an awesome little book - one that I'm so glad I stumbled on accidentally! Due to the smaller size of the book, it's not as in-depth as others, but I actually found that refreshing. After reading all the detailed books that tend to characterize the subject of natural birth/parenting, this book was like a cool drink of water. Although an overview, it gives a very helpful amount of information about even "lesser-known" infant care ideas, such as elimination communication, baby massage, homeopathic/herbal remedies, and much more.
From the style and design of the book to it's beautiful photography (which truly make the book: DK style - multiple photos on each page), each page reminds you of the simple beauty of new life. Janet Balaskas is truly an expert in her field, and her writing style is both informative and encouraging. I only wish I lived in the United Kingdom, where her perspective is the norm, instead of here on the other side of the pond, where even mentioning "natural birth" still elicits all sorts of cynical comments. A truly great book, and one that I highly recommend to any parent interested in giving birth and caring for their baby in the most instinctive, natural, and loving way possible.
Some of the subjects covered include:
Life before birth
The last weeks of pregnancy
Approaching birth
Meeting your baby
First hour after birth
The babymoon
Preparing to breastfeed
Learning breastfeeding together
Baby-led feeding
Solving problems
Bottle-feeding for those unable to breastfeed

This book was a gift for me when I was pregnant with my first child who is now eight years old. I've used many of the remedies in the past and continue to use them now. I prefer herbal remedies to the over the counter medicinal treatments, so I was delighted when I received this book. I now have other family members with infants and toddlers who call me for remedies. I refuse to part with my book, but wish to buy the book as a gift for others. This book is easy to follow.

This book is a great companion to pregnancy and even has suggestions for improving fertility. I used this and her other book, Easing Labor Pain, to prepare a herbal/homeopathic/aromatherapy kit for labor and delivery. I highly recommend this and her other book. They are both very thorough and non-judgemental in tone, so that you can use alternative therapies as a complement to western medicine without feeling like you have to make a choice between the two.
I reviewed some of her suggestions with my Nurse Midwife, she was familiar with them, and gave me the okay to use them during labor and delivery.
