This text was a requirement for my Infant Psych class this semester. This contains all the information you'll need to know from conception to the infant's first two years. It was interesting and easy to read even if you never had prior introduction to child psych. Great text for parents-to-be as well. Additionally, this book is small enough to bring on vacation or subway on the way to work.

A helpful tool for parents as well

As the parent of my now 18-month-old daughter, I find this book to be a valuable resource in understanding infant development. Even though it is designed to help teachers build a curriculum for infants from birth to 18 months, I found the activities, the theoretical discussions and the assessment tools to be also very useful in a parent-child environment. Each chapter is content-based (me, Mommies and Daddies, Big and Little, Cars, Trucks and Trains. etc.) and provides various ideas to promote movement, literacy, music, sensory/art and curiosity. My daughter, my husband and I had tremendous fun implementing these ideas indoors and outdoors. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

My son received this book as a gift and hasn't put it down since. He loves to point to the dog on every page. He is not speaking yet, so I cannot ask him, but he appears to be interested and learning. If I find more books that hold his interest like this, maybe he'll enjoy reading in the future!

Very well organized and easy to follow. Kanji and Hiragana are listed along with their meanings. It contains classic names as well as ancient, obsolete names, and breaks them up so you can create new ones.

Very few can remember their lives as a child; even fewer can remember their days as an infant

Very few can remember their lives as a toddler; even fewer can remember their days as an infant. "Jessica: Autobiography of an Infant" presents the case of Jessica, who through extensive use of the technique known as catharsis is brought back to reflect in full English the thoughts that went through her head as an infant, when most of us just remember a blur. A deeply enthralling peek into the early human psyche, written in a form that resembles fiction.

Joint Attention, Masters and Directions
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-31
This volume laudably views research in the area of joint attention. Jerome Bruner's fascinating Forward provides a joint referent for the entire volume, beginning with his own long-standing interest in "sharing attention", coalescing the three primary strains of research which contribute to the current understanding of joint attention, and circling back to the question "what impels children to seek joint attention with others." Dunham and Moore choose their contributors to provide a broad spectrum of theoretical and research orientations which contribute to the amassed knowledge in this area, as well as providing their own historical perspective and current themes in research. Overall the book is not only scholarly, but erudite, and well written. For anyone seeking a basic review of the concepts and research in the area of joint attention, this book fills a unique niche.

This is not your typical self-help book of how to pick up the pieces after a loss in your life; rather, what God can teach us while walking us through the grieving process. The author opens up herself, her experiences to help others have hope.

This overview of recent infant research is very complete and challenges former views of children's basic potential. The book offers a great deal in relating Jungian beliefs to recent research.
