Infants Books

I found this book at a local bargain bookstore and I've since been back twice to buy copies for friends. The illustrations are incredible and the advice and recipes are just what a mom who already knows her way around the kitchen needs. If you're looking for a book that spends a little time on the "basics" but then goes far, far beyond them (and includes great foods other than the traditiona baby fare of green beans and carrots), then this is the book for you. If only you can find it!!!

West/Wadsworth must be congratulated for this 4 color book, chock full of user friendly pictures and graphs. The text was carefully written for a simple and full understanding of children, ages birth to eight. The topics cover, nutrition, sanitation, safety, hygience, growth and development. More nutrition than most texts of the same genre.

Hector and Prudence(large, pink pigs)relocate from a field to a "new home" just in time for six new additions to the family. Any parent will empathize as well as chuckle at the implied reality of the escapades of this greatly expanded family!

This is the definitive book on heirloom sewing by hand. It's also out of print and very hard to find. It's the first book of a four book series (#2 concentrates on embroidery, #3 on lace, and #4 on cutwork... though each contains a variety of other skills and techniques). I found them all on ebay over the period of a few months.

It's not all that long ("book" is sort of generous: it's more like a long pamphlet), but covers all of the basic heirloom sewing techniques: edges, sewing on lace and entredeux, hemming, tucks, and more. The directions are clear and accompanied by plenty of line drawings illustrating each technique, and several pages of color photographs. In addition to running through each technique one by one, there are several complete projects in the back of the book, including a sampler pillow which includes all the important stitches.

If you are interested in learning how to be a better hand sewer, this book and its sequels are the best books on the subject.

If there is (and no one really thinks there is) such a thing as an ugly baby, he or she is not to be found in this book. 12 thick, board book pages of close-up photographs of some of the cutest babies, doing what babies do, with captions describing the action. Crying, clapping and more. Babies will love looking at the pictures!

This book really helped my daughter see that she was special and her new sibling was ok too.

Hello Benny! adds to the 'Growing Up' stories which tells of young Benny, who celebrates his first year of life. Simple text and large pictures tell of Benny's first experiences in life, from encounters with admiring adults to growing older. A fine celebration which comes alive with Michael Emberley's drawings.

My 19 month old son actually chose this book at the library. He absolutely loves it! It is packed with wonderful drawings of babies doing all sorts of silly things, such as "Babies kick and babies crawl, slide their potties down the hall." He enjoys the rhymes, but he LOVES all those pictures of the babies playing with things like "shoes and hats, sleeping cats,...an empty box, and Daddy's socks." It is a great book for beginning readers (especially those expecting a new baby brother or sister) because the print is large and well spaced. Smaller children will almost certainly relate to these little babies. I will definitely add this one to my list of "great gift books."

Sandra Perko's newest book is just as she describes in her intro: a well researched valid assist in case taking. I have found this book to be invaluable for helping to clarify the homeopathic indication for a remedy when even after thorough case taking, the remedy remains a mystery. Just a heads up: The contents of the book are not a short cut to good thorough case taking, but you will be given direction - sort of the paper form of a Garmin navigation system.... designed for practitioners. Well done!!
