Infants Books

This book is wonderful. The beautiful illustrations help even young children understand the birth process. This book can be very useful when parents are expecting the arrival of a younger sibling for their pre-school or elementary school age child. That said, this book is also great for expectant parents. Most of the text is informational (and isn't is reassuring to have that unique question you have answered?). Others may find the text simplistic in that the comments are not only presented in standard paragraphs but are sometimes placed on the page around the illustrations. Definitely worth purchasing to look at at your leisure throughout your pregnancy.

I Have Been Baptized ~ by James D. McGuire and DeVere Ramsay with illustrations in color by Jeannie Holmgren. This delightful remembrance of infant baptism is unique in Christian publishing! Truly a charming little book which includes instructions for use and even a cross stitch pattern.

This book is full of messy rooms, harried parents and a child's description of her little sister; as well as the emotions she feels towards her. Every page and sentence rings with the truth. Older children will connect with the honest feelings of the big sister. The artwork is well done. An enjoyable read and a treat for the eye.

We are expecting our second child in December so I checked this book out of my local La Leche League lending library for my 3-year-old son. He loves it! He asks me to read it to him all the time.

This wonderful book deals with the sometimes-negative emotions that children have when a new sibling is born and gives them a realistic look at newborns. It is very positive and gentle - I highly recommend it!

"I Was A Preemie" is four-year-old Jill Martin's account of how she and her conservative Mennonite family coped with her premature birth, her nine-week stay in a newborn intensive care unit, and her subsequent gradual healing at home, as described by her mother. Utterly charming black-and-white photos of Jill's family, like her grandmother, in plain dress, prayer covering, and hospital gown, holding Jill in the hospital; on-the-spot descriptions, such as her brother Kenton's first reactions ("Do those needles hurt her? Why is her skin so wrinkled? She looks like a little old lady"). Sights, smells, and sounds of Jill's life in the NICU, how the family coped with the baby at home, and the response of the wider community. Emily Martin's goal with this book is to describe her family's journey in caring for a premature baby, and to show the grace of God.

This book is delightful! The illustrations are fun to look at. The premise of the book is about a child that would rather have an iguana than a new sibling. It deals with the anger and feelings of an older child coming to grips with the new "intruder" in the home. I gave this book as a gift to my friend's daughter who loved it! She also loves her new sibling, too (finally!)

This has been one of our family favorites for almost twenty-five years. It is sitting on the shelf with the rest of the classics as we build a library for our grand daughter to enjoy. Not only are the illustrations delightful but the story hits a familiar tone in everyones heart. I am happy to see that it is available again for another generation of smiles.

Starting with birth and taking you to the first birthday, this book has simple, page a day meditaions that reassure you that your thoughts and feelings about being a mother, and the responsibilities that come with it, are perfectly normal.

Ok, the book weighs quite a bit to carry around daily; however, for a one volume pediatric radiology text, this is a must have. The text is easy to read and illustrations are clear. Dr. Swischuk interjects with his occassional humor which makes this book enjoyable to read.

The text is organized by organ system and for a resident, covers the essential topics. It can easily be read in 2 months.

This is a book that I highly recommend, especially after reading Dr. Donnelly's Fundamentals of Pediatric Radiology.

Lots of good information that may save a child's life. This small book is excellent but I thought the author's other 2 books were even better.
