I spent a LOT of time looking for the right memory book for my daughter when she was born. I started to look around for a different one for the son I am expecting next month, and decided to go with this one again. The second one will feel cheated out of enough as it is; but at least I can give him the same quality memory book - provided I keep up with it! But as my daughter approaches 5, I'm so glad that I did continue to fill in hers. It is a wonderful keepsake - and incentive to print out at least a few of the 1000s of digital photos.

I am happy with this book. It has dividers for each section, it has pockets for storing things. It really is detailed for recording all the "firsts". It has a page for each month and then 'milestones and achievements' for 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5. It has milestones such as first scribbles, uses own name, turns pages one by one, points to pictures in a book. For having our first child it has covered practically everything that I wouldn't know to record. I have two books (this one I bought and the other was a gift). This is much more detailed than the other so it depends on what you are looking for. Also, the other book I have is more cute-sy and refers to parents as Mommy and Daddy. This book refers to parents as Mother & Father as well as Mommy and Daddy, Mom and Dad. For instance it says "Mom's Page" but then it says "Mother's full name." I like it better in that regard. Bottom line, I'd buy it again.

I was delighted with all the different pages. Seems to have a place for almost everything. The monthly photo section is my favorite I think. The book is made very well and should hold up for years and years. My only complaint is that I wish it had more envelopes to tuck small keepsakes in. But it shouldn't be a problems for me to add more in. This is still the best Baby's book you can get for this price. And I spent long hours hunting for the perfect one.

I first purchased the Baby's book-first five years for my niece. Everyone who saw it agrees it is the perfect gift for a new parent. It is something so organized, yet simple and very detailed. One day they will be able to look back and have times, dates, and pictures for all those new and first time events. I have since ordered it for my expectant neighbor, and I just know she and her family will love it. It is the best gift I can think of for a new parent.

I really like it, I had looked around for a while. Easy to fill out, asks alot of questions that I wouldn't even think of. Only things I don't like are there are no "teeth charts" to chart which of the baby's teeth came in first, and theres not a whole 'lotta room to write notes on the pages if you decide to put their monthly pics. Overall I think it's fine and will probably buy a couple more for my expectant friends.

I just had triplets in November and this book was a gift. I took a lot of the advice and tips Blythe had in this book and applied it with my babies. I suggest if you have a baby that is fussy or colic, this book will help you out!

Common sense advice that we sometimes need in the middle of a crisis!

I enjoyed the easy to read tips and cute photos through-out the book. "Help, My Baby Came without Instructions" has good advice for your marriage and reminders to take care of yourself -- something we often forget to do when we're taking care of our new babies.

I wish I had this book around when I brought my twin daughters home. They were difficult to get to sleep and if I had used some of Blythe's advice they would probably be better sleepers today!

Unless you have NO idea what youre doing, I'd skip it

I bought this for a present and found myself reading it before I gift wrapped it. Sure wish this book had been around when my kids were babies. Great tips, and very easy to read! Can pick it up on the spot during a "crisis" and get immediate advise! Just right for those times when you don't want to bother the pediatrician, but could use some really good suggestions. Great for new mom's groups to use for discussions as well...hurry up with the sequel Blythe!!!

I was out for the first time with a friend after having my little girl and I saw the book, "Help, My Baby Came Without Instructions." That's exactly what I was thinking at the time so I bought it. My friend was in town to help out with the baby for the weekend so while I took a much needed rest, she read a couple of the tips in the book. Viola, when I got up I did't hear crying and the baby was asleep in the crib... for the first time! The warm blanket comforted her and putting her in the corner of the crib instead of the middle was perfect. So many of Blythe's tips have helped us. I don't know where we'd be today without knowing these valuable bits of helpful information!

Maybe I just have a lot of common mother's sense, but this book really hasn't helped me figure much of anything out. I read through it while breastfeeding in the early days and enjoyed the author's humor most of the time. I learned some interesting information from it, but honestly have never picked it up for reference since. Certainly it can't hurt to have the book on hand, but I wouldn't call it a "must-have".

I'm a first time Dad of twins, and a book worm, so of course before the kids came I sampled many of the latest resources out there. While many were pretty good, this was definitely my favorite. Very concise, pragmatic, and most importantly entertaining. I especially love the little "baby myths" sprinkled throughout the book.

As a grandfather to be, this book really caught my attention. After browsing through it, and then reading some of the chapters, I immediately bought books for my wife and I and my expectant daughter (an OB-GYN). My daughter then bought and sent copies to all her expectant friends and now recommends this book to her newly pregnant patients! Dr. Altman is insightful, sensitive, and covers every topic in a caring, easy to understand, and informative manner. A MUST!!!

As both an educator serving hundreds of children over the past 12 years, and a mother of three I have found this sensational, practical book a wonderful resource. Parents, teachers and caregivers will find in this well organized, clearly written book a wealth of information for situations that all of us who nurture children encounter throughout our daily interactions. A true, sensitive delight filled with hundreds of user friendly exercises, fresh ideas and insights into how the world sounds to children today. Helen Shaw, secondary school teacher

This book is an excellent resource for both parents and educators who deal with both mainstream and challenged populations. For those of us interested in gaining from the benefits of the latest brain research, or "brain-compatible strategies," without having to sort through the theoretical concepts or scientific research that often make these books cumbersome this book is the answer. The author--a clinical psychologist with actual experience in these matters--shares with us his years of research and professional experience in a very handy, ready to use volume that provides hundreds of fun, useful, hands-on exercises. Each chapter also thoughtfully provides dozens of musical suggestions based on songs that our kids actually listen to and recognize. The amount of research that must have gone into this book boggles the mind. This is an offering from someone who not only KNOWS children, but also loves and cherishes them. If you are fortunate enough to attend one of Dr. Ortiz's workshops on this topic you will be further enriched and enchanted by his charm, knowledge and humor. Mindy Mother of two, educator

I bought this highly recommended book to assist me with the many practical ideas that all caregivers crave. The book has easily surpassed my expectations and lived up to all the high praise and accolades from my friends. As a mother who also home schools two children, however, this book is a rich source of hands-on activities as well as inspiration for enriching family bonds. For parents-or nursery home workers-in search of very effective solutions for nap-time, or sleepy-time resources Dr. Ortiz's charming CDs: "It's Sleepy Time!" (for younger children), or "Daydreams to Dreams" (for older children)are HIGHLY recommended!!

There are so many pregnancy books out there that it can be overwhelming, and many of them seem dominated by things to worry about or by political agendas on how you should birth/raise your child. I found this one by accident while on vacation, and have found that it gives you all the information you need to understand what's happening to your body and your baby's, distinguish what's normal from what needs medical attention, and feel prepared to bring your baby home. All with no fuss or lectures!

The book is divided into convenient sections, some of which you'll want to devour (nutrition advice, say, or descriptions of fetal development), others of which you'll want to read only as you get to the next set of changes and decisions (such as choices to be made about pain relief during delivery). The range of possibilities are discussed -- e.g., midwives and home birth versus full medical bells and whistles -- and lots of small remedies are suggested for common woes such as backache or nausea. There are also practical tips, like what clothes you'll want to bring to the hospital (for both mother and baby), which help with things you might forget.

All in all, a great book, that I would recommend to any expecting family.

I'm 13 weeks pregnant as I write this. When I found out I was pregnant, it was a complete surprise and I really didn't know much about pregnancy. After flipping through overwhelming books like "What to Expect When You're Expecting" I decided on this one.

This book had information on everything no matter how little or how much you know about pregnancy or birth. I'm not one to go for picture books, but when it comes to something as life changing as birth, I'll take a book that not only gives me all the info I could ever want, but SHOWS me the information as well. Every page is full color with diagrams and pictures, showing your body and baby as they develop, and various other pregnancy related things.

There's even a section on the first 6 weeks of infancy, so you don't have to say "Oh no! I read all about pregnancy and birth, but what do I do with this squiggly thing I brought home with me?!"

I read this every day and have something different and exciting to talk to my husband about every night. I also know what to look for at the hospital and what to talk to my doctor about at my visits. I also know what to watch out for at home and what I can and cannot do.

I would recommend this book for anyone who is planning to get pregnant, is pregnant, or wants to give the book as a gift.

I loved this book! Easy to read - comprehensive answers to almost all your questions you have about pregnancy. I wouldn't rely on this book alone, but it is a great source of information and gives you the idea of what you should discuss with your OB-GYN or what to request in the hospital. After reading most of it, I even decided to skip the birth classes my hospital offers because I felt I knew just enough and was ready to have my baby.

A teriffic book! I enjoyed how this book was written, organized and presented to the reader. It is truly a must have if you are expecting or expecting to be expecting! I was impressed by the pictures/graphics and the chronicalling of a pregnancy. The information grouped by weeks and trimester easy to read and understand. Many of the questions I had were presented with easy to understand answers. Even my husband enjoyed this book--he read more of this book than any of the other pregnancy references I have brought home. We will definatiely be grabbing this book off the shelf as my pregnancy progresses!

It contains great explanation for every possible question you may have about your pregnancy. It is also very richly illustrated with photos, drawings and charts. I still keep it next to my bed and read it every now and then. I'd definitely recommend this book for my friends when they get pregnant.

The fact that the book was written by Zig Ziglar was enough for me to buy it, however the fact that it is full of sound, timeless, tested and proven advice on child rearing is why I recommend it. In a world that seems to have gone mad this book is reassuring. It gives you hope that your children can and will thrive if the advice is taken and put into action. As an added bonus, parents get a "check up, from the neck up" to ensure that we're on the right path and doing what it takes to lead by example.

I bought this for my 2 year old daughter as she loves songs with moves and we taught her signing when she was smaller and she loves it! Plus the songs are really easy to learn so now we can do them wherever even if we don't have the CD with us. And the pictures show you really clearly how to make the signs. It's a lot of fun and I highly recommend it! The only thing I would change if I could is to make it spiral bound so it's easier to keep the pages open as you're trying to do the signs.

I love the update to the classic Itsy Bitsy Spider and the original songs by Susan Z always make my baby smile! The signs will help us to communicate better long before she can talk. We've seen it work for other parents to prevent tantrums because you can more easily meet the childs needs...or at least understand what they are asking for!

I have found it to be easy to understand, and the section on newborn care contains helpful information that is missing from many pregnancy books. The book is written in an easy to understand, personable style. It is as if "Nurse Colonero" is sitting in the room with you. In many contemporary medical environments, the emphasis is on expeditious teaching interactions. The immediate post-partum period is often a time of emotional and physical exhaustion, and so a family's ability to learn new information may be limited. This book will not only give you a comprehensive outline of important concepts, it should also provide the patient and family with a fundamental framework of knowledge which will empower you to be a more savvy "medical consumer." You can think about issues and concerns and present them to your health care providers for discussion. Jerri Colonero's book should be a template for patient education and empowerment. Managed care is here to stay, and the more educated families are about their health care needs and their access to potential information and services, the better the outcomes will be for everyone: patients, families, providers, and payors.

This is the best resource on pregnancy and post-partum that I have found. Completely accessible, easy to read, well organized, thorough and detailed... I can't give it enough praise. I was especially impressed (and thankful) for the detailed childbirth section, which provided a wealth of information that most books only touch on. This is my first baby, and I feel so much more prepared and in control (despite the all-day nausea!). Where other books prescribe unrealistic diets and regimented rules, Jerri Colonero presents sensible guidelines and helpful suggestions in a warm way: no scare tactics here! Further, the section on bringing baby home covers all sorts of material, from breastfeeding basics to bathing. This is just the resource I was looking for and I've already consulted in again and again. I plan to spread the word about this wonderful book.

We first received this book from our hospice nurse when our 8 week old son was diagnosed with Type I Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Please visit www.curesma.com to learn more about SMA). We found the message in this book to be powerful, beautiful, and comforting in a time of great sadness in our lives. This story could have been written for our son, without having to change a word. I have purchased several of these books for close friends whose children are dying of SMA, or have passed away from SMA. The book has received nothing but positive feedback from all of them. Elissa, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this story with us. You have allowed us to turn a heart wrenching experience into one of hope and love. We highly recommend this book, in loving memory of our own "Angel with the Golden Glow".

Perfect for families of pediatric hospice patients!!!

Any family dealing with the loss of a child needs this book. This is especially true if the child has special needs and/or is in a pediatric hospice program. This book would be an excellent choice for families who can and will have another child after the loss of one. Through touching language and adorable illustrations, the book conveys beautiful messages about God's purpose for the presence of these children in our lives. Adults will be overcome with emotion when reading this book, and children of all ages will be able to understand it's message. All readers will remember that we love one another even when we are apart, and that we will all be together again. Having recently lost my two year old daughter after many long months in hospice, I found this book touched my heart like no other.

A must read book for all ages!

As a mother dealing with the birth of my fourth child born with severe neurological problems this book was just what I needed to help answer my children's questions about our little angel. I cried through the whole book because it was as if this book was written about my little Benjamin. Such a well written, feel good story that can apply to so many real life situations. Thankyou for writing and sharing this beautiful story.

My mother gave me the Baby Dear book in a special time in my life, it was when my baby sister was born on in 1978. Now, she has a daughter and is adopting a baby that will be born on December 2nd, which is also a little girl, and because I have loved my copy of Baby Dear and I still have it! It is so worn that the back cover finally tore off, and I need to figure out a way to attach it back, other than that the book is in pretty good shape to be my age. I thought because she will soon have a baby sister which she is looking forward to having, that if I could find her very own copy of Baby Dear because I read it to her even though she is reading now, and she loved it! I thought I read somewhere that it was out of Print. If that is the case I have no idea where I am going to find her a copy unless I pass on my copy of the book, that mom gave when they brought my sister home from the hospital! This was my favorite book, and it still is, and I know my niece would feel the same way.

I bought this book for my daughter about 1974. She loved it and wore out the first copy, so I bought another. Around 1986 I bought my niece the same book and she loved it. Now I have grandchildren and they are enjoying it as well. It makes bringing another baby into the home easier for an older child to relate and really feel like they are helping and doing things just like Mommy.

This book touches me deeply...

I absolutely LOVED this book as a child!! I had older siblings that I would ask to read it to me until I had it memorized! I then taught myself to read by comparing the words to those in my memory and moved on to read other books - at the age of 4! When I was 5 years old my little brother was born. I remember a time when my mother was changing my little brother and I brought my doll in and layed her next to him to do the same. I then quoted a comment from the book: "Mommy changes her baby, and I change mine!" It was so wonderful for me to copy my mother's love for her own baby ("Mommy's baby is my baby brother. Maybe someday I'll let my brother play with Baby Dear."). I found a brand new copy in a store a few years back and have it saved. I didn't realize that it was out of print! It would be great if I still had my old copy - I bet it was worn! I wanted to get a copy for my 1 year old niece who is already showing favoritism with her other books. It would be nice if she were to use memorization as a tool to help her learn to read as well. Keep in mind... no matter how frustrating it is that your child wants to hear the same book read over and over, or watch the same movie... their little minds are hard at work!! I'm 26 years old and looking at this book still gets to me! The illustrations are ADORABLE and the story is so en"dear"ing!!

I have always loved "Baby Dear"

Growing up, I loved reading stories with my mother. My very favorite by far was (and still is) Eloise Wilkin's "Baby Dear." The story of a young girl and her doll is delightful for children of all ages. This book meant so much to me that I would take it to bed with me at night and sleep with it as if it were a beloved animal. My current copy is so worn that it had to be taped. I now have a one month-old niece with whom I would like to share this beautiful story. Although it is taking some time, I hope to find a copy of "Baby Dear" so that she can love it as much as I did.

A sweet, gentle story for our fast-paced, frantic lifestyle.

I bought this book second hand for my daughter who became a big sister five months ago. It has become one of her favorites. "Big sister" books are plentiful these days, but this one is different in that the big sister becomes a "mommy" to her new doll, just as her mother does to the new baby. The illustrations are beautifully detailed and realistic. The story and drawings portray a safe and secure world for a girl moving from only child to big sister. If you don't have a copy of this book, scour the garage sales and second hand bookstores for it. It is worth the effort.
