Our children love this book. It's easy to read and they love listenting to it being read to them. They especially like repeating the silly song and go around singing it long after the story is over. They always get a bit quiet when we come to the picture of the mother and boy hugging after they push the buggy out to the trash. Then they start talking about things they've outgrown and miss. Each time we read it, they study the pictures and seem to find something new in them. Great for young children.

This book is a well-written, well-organized book which is great for all parents of babies and toddlers, as well as anyone else (grandparents, etc.) who would like to be well-informed about all aspects of the toys they buy their children.

Invaluable resource at a great price -- great gift!

I include this book with every new-baby gift I give -- it barely costs more than a card and I get endless thank-yous for it. Parents use it as constant reference for the first few years. In addition to recommendations for the best toys, books, and videos, it includes safety tips and classic games to play with the new person in the house. It's easy to carry along and refer to. And succinct and easy to read during those years when you're too tired to get through more than a paragraph of anything. Really stands out in the sea of baby books: something practical that gets used again and again. What more could you ask for...

Great Book - Great Story for Toddlers' To Relate To!

I think this was a wonderful book. It's simple to understand that pacifiers are not forever, and there comes a time when one grows bigger and it's time to stop using them. I think this books gets the message across really well, giving a lot of positive compliments to a child when they are ready to try and reach that point that they are now "bigger" and "it's time". I would recommend this book to a parent that will soon work with their child to get rid of their pacifier a head of time, so their child knows at some point, they will stop using it. I would also recommend this book for a child that is now ready to give it up, or one that just has and is having difficulty.

The Parents Guide to Baby and Child Medical Care

I bought a copy of this book when I had my last two kids in the eighties. I gave my oldest son and his wife a copy when they had their first child four years ago. I also buy a copy for close freinds who are having children. It proved invaluable with my third child (who is now 19) and who was sick much of his early childhood. It was easy to reference and I could quickly look up symptoms and get a step-by-step guide as to what actions to take.
And today, I'm not back on the Internet, buying a copy for my daughter, who has a 1-year-old daughter. She remembers using the book when she was a teen and was home with me and her two smaller brothers in the 80's. It's a great parenting guide.

My wife and I bought a copy of Dr. Hart's handy guide in the early 1980s, and found it very useful in the raising of our four kids over the years. Our copy is always available on a handy bookshelf, and is well thumbed through. I have found the format to be logical, and well thought out. The spiral binding made it easy to use hands free. We like it so much that we bought additional copies as gifts, to give to other parents.

Dr. Wessel, who for many years was a professor of pediatrics at Yale University, and who has cared for generations of children, has written an indispensible resource for new parents. My wife and I have many, many books about child-rearing, but this thoughtful and informative book is far and away the best.

Okay, let's be honest. My dad wrote this book. But he and my mom raised four children, and he cared for thousands in New Haven. For years, he kept track of parents' questions on little index cards. When it came time to write a book, he knew which questions parents really needed answered. My friends, to whom I give the book the moment they become first-time parents, says it's useful because it's easy to look up symptoms and figure out if their child is really sick and with what

Our copy of "Peakaboo!" is tattered, torn & taped from many fun-filled readings of this great little book. There is something about it that was magical to our three children. I find myself buying it, as a baby gift, over and over.

My son absolutely loved this book. It is well-worn from reading it over and over and over. I just brought it out for our second son as he has become interested in reading and he brought it to me numerous times today. There is something extremely appealing about this book to young toddlers- a favorite for our sons!

I have tried out this book in a local nursery school and found that it was just as exciting to the children as Jonathan Lycett-Smith's previous publication 'Kitten Kid Were are You?'. This was also a Walker Book Publication obtainable at the Early Learning Centre. The children loved the little monster and joined in with all the face pulling, ending up with big smiles that knocked us all flat in an ectasy of laughing. What a joy to have a well illustrated book that all the children could relate to in a joyful manner.

In Judy Hindley's delightful picturebook story for very young readers, The Perfect Little Monster, Baby Monsters seems perfect to his parents. He has horrible little eyes and a horrible little nose. he loves to scowl and how and make a terrible mess. But when Baby Monster's whole family gathers for his first birthday party, he reveals he's not quite as perfect as his parent's think! Jonathan Lycett-Smith's colorful, whimsical artwork is perfectly suited to Hindley's fanciful story.

many possible uses

Review Date: 2003-11-14
The author of this book intended it for the convenience of teachers and recreational leaders who cannot read music and therefore cannot learn hitherto unfamiliar songs from musical notation.

However, it has other uses too. For instance, it is good for a music teacher with a beginning student. In this book, there are 15 songs to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb. If the student's friends and relatives sing those 15 songs while the student accompanies, the student will get plenty of practice and have fun at the same time. Other familiar tunes appear with comparable frequency.

The book is also good for teachers of English as a second language. Most of the songs are repetitious pattern songs which the students could easily learn.

0911019073, 0911019022, and 0911019014 have all been very helpful to me both as a music teacher and as an ESL teacher.

Incidentally, Barney Dinosaur's closing song is taken from page 18 of this book.

Karen brings many practical ideas to help achieve mastery over this crucial skill with the minimum of hoopla. This book is amazing! My 2 year old daughter started showing signs that she was ready to sit on the toilet...I was trying to potty train her and was getting very frustrated with the constant accidents. After reading this book and following Karen's advice, my daughter was fully trained within 2 weeks and she hasn't had an accident since. By making a game out of it and making it fun, it became much less stressful which in turn made her successful. I don't know what I would have done without this book!
