My Down Syndrome daughter selected this book for my oldest grandson, and he loved it. He has 1 favorite page that he looks at repeatedly because he is attracted to the baby's facial expression. I would like to buy another one--new--for my second grandson and was disappointed to see that Amazon does not have any. I hope the publisher will do another printing because this book was a major hit.

My wife and I both graduated with early childhood education degrees and always love picking up books for children we may have in the future.

I bought this book to add to our collection. One reason I ended up getting it is because our first pet was a dwarf bunny.


The style of this book has a very metallic feeling. It has a semi-olde time feel to it. The colors are very pastelly and sort of dreary feeling...like old color photographs.

The story is short but very cute. It brought a smile to both my wife and my faces.

The pictures in this book are very nice and pertain to the story very well. If the pictures were drawn or digitally done, this book would not be that great. The pictures are really what make this book.

I have used this book with both of my children. Both of them became OBSESSED with this book. I started reading it to my oldest when she was only four months old. We have hundreds of children's books and this is always the number one choice every time. It is so worn that I have had to tape every page where it has been hugged and kissed so much by my kids!!! My youngest, who is two, actually reads it to me..every word!!!! I don't know what it is about this book but my girls have given it two thumbs up!!!

When my son was about two years old I got him this book. The story line is simple, but the emotions expressed are so real that my son, on more than one occasion, went to sleep with this book open on the crying baby page. He could relate to it in its most basic way. Don't worry though - the book has a happy ending...
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and help create the protected atmosphere where emotions are OK.
Highly recommended. I buy this book for a lot of birthdays...

I stumbled across this book in a bookstore and was immediately enchanted! The pictures are so cute and the story that goes along with them is charming. Babies love to see pictures of other babies so this is sure to captivate your baby. The words are very rhythmic and one day you may find that your child has memorized all the words! If you are thinking about this book for your baby or as a gift, do not hesitate.

I am so grateful to Dr. Vartabedian for writing this book. I have two children who have reflux. The first is 5 years old and when he was an infant, Zantac was the only drug our pediatrician was willing to prescribe. It didn't work very well, but took the edge off for him and we struggled for years with the sleep issues that resulted from him being in so much pain as an infant.

When our second child came along, now 9 weeks old, and his reflux was WORSE--showing up on the day of his birth, no less--I knew I was going to need more help than our pediatrician had offered the first time. I went online to do research and stumbled across this book. It offers commonsense help and experience. The nearest pediatric gastro is 1 hour away from us and our baby screams from the moment we put him in the carseat to the moment we take him out. Being able to take this book to our (new and more openminded) pediatrician to discuss treatment options was critical to his care.

We are about to try our third reflux medication because the first two simply did not offer much relief to our son who seems to be on the extreme end of spectrum. Without all this good information about treatment options and approaches to positioning etc, we would be in the dark or getting our information from the internet. I would much rather get my information from a health care professional!

Dissemination of this critical information about reflux is so important! I am so angered by the pediatricians who basically patted me on the head and gave me the "colic talk." Telling me to get outside help, go for walks, etc. etc. Outside help isn't always readily available and taking time for ME sounds ludicrous when the reason my baby was crying was because he was in PAIN! These doctors seem to think that they can just call something colic and brush aside your concerns. But anyone in pain deserves relief--adult, child, infant, even pet!

Babies who cry and fuss all day long don't do so for their own entertainment or just to spite their parents. They do so because they are in pain. And it is a pediatricians job to help you manage that pain. All this talk about finding time for me was ridiculous because I would get the break I needed without any outside help, if the baby was more comfortable and I didn't have to hold a screaming baby all day and night too! Babies who are in pain don't sleep very well, or at all--babies who get relief from medication and proper positioning will sleep and moms can get rest then too. That is the real colic solved!

Thank you again, Dr. Vartabedian, for dispelling the myth of colic once and for all and giving moms and babies the power to advocate for themselves!

This is the first review I ever write for a product. When my daughter turned 3 weeks she started being EXTREMELLY fussy. Nothing we did seemed to soothe her and I was tired of people telling me that it would go away once she turned three months or that she could sense my stress/anxiety. I knew something was wrong and that she was in pain. We tried changing formulas and the doctor prescribed medicine for acid reflux. The medicine has helped a lot and now I know it not because she can sense my tension. This is an excellent book to understand what our baby is going through. It has also helped us ask appropriate questions to our pediatrition and explain the condition to others who just don't seem to understand. I highly suggest this book to anyone that has a hard to soothe baby - you will realize that you are not alone and it will help you deal with the situation.

If your baby has "colic" or cries for hours nonstop like they are in pain, this is a MUST read.Our son was born with a handful of GI issues and this book helped us sort through how to address them with the doctors that always seemed to brush him off. It turns out he has serve acid reflux as well as food allergies including milk and soy as discussed in this book. As parents who have not been to med school we still feel lost (and it has been a little over a year) when it comes to the medical specialists on this topic but this book really helped shed some light when we really needed. When a baby is only sleeping for 20 minutes and up all night, something is wrong and parents need answers. Read this book!

This is a good introduction to the problems of acid reflux, stomach motility disorder, and so called "colic." It explains how to determine if your infant has GER or GERD (gastric acid reflux.) It gives you examples/stories of other mother's experiences with their children. It helps you understand the condition and gives you knowledge and good questions that you can take to the pediatrician. It also helps you identify if you need to go see a pediatric GI specialist. I highly recommend it. Quick read as well.

So, before I begin my review of this product, here's our background... our son who is currently 6 weeks has had to be sent to the hospital with gas pains so severe that the emergency room doctors were concerned that he might be trying to pass a kidney stone. Turns out he was allergic to soy, we had tried breast, standard formula and lactose intolerance formula. He had a negative reaction to all (including breast believe it or not, I went through tests also to determine what was in my milk even though I was on a mild diet.... cause was deemed later on to be for a substance need, our baby needed rice formula). So..... we tried just the rice formula with the children's mylicon with the VentAire bottles.... somewhat of an improvement, but our child was still needing to go to the doctor weekly for checkups without much success, our pediatrician would even call us daily to see how he was doing. Constipation was questioned, but was never an issue. Our breakthrough occurred when we took our son to a specialist appointment and the lady asking us if our son had excess gas since she noticed that Mylicon was listed as one of his meds. I stated quickly yes and told her of our ordeal. I was told that she was the grandmother of 5 children and a mother of 3 and had tried EVERYTHING to cure their extreme colic. The remedy they found, Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown's bottles, and rice formula. After the doctor appointment I went to the store to give these products a try....... and it was like an angel had spoken to us. Our child could breathe again and was longer tense in the body, as he was making progress against constantly trying to push. I know that I'm being candid but I am hoping that this will help other parents and children that have been or will be in our situation. We are on day 4 of the product switch and WOW, he's a brand new baby! If these products can help a child who's been hospitalized, hopefully these can help yours as well. Pedialyte also works as well to help calm the tummy. I've been using tylenol every 5 hours (excluding when he sleeps) for the first week and have been continuing to use the Mylicon to help with the surface gas. Burping has never been an issue, but his burps and toots have become louder and more productive, sometimes just shifting him in our arms can help him to expel gas! I'll be making this post in numerous areas in hopes to help people.

Hyland's colic tablets, Dr. Brown bottles, Enfamil AR Lipil, infant's tylenol, gas drops is literally our formula to success.

Great book filled with wonderful and useful info. For those looking to parent their children in a naturally minded informed way this is THE book.

This book has saved my life in so many ways!! When my oldest son was five years old, he had been on various antibiotics, decongestants, antihistamines, steroids, and you name it to treat asthma, and chronic ear infections and colds for two years almost non-stop. At the time, I felt like the only thing I could do to help him was keep pumping this stuff into him... it was so depressing, and what was even worse was that nothing I gave him was even working! I felt like I had hit a wall. I didn't know what to do. Then a friend recommended this book to me. Ever since I got my hands on this gem, we have started living again. It's amazing how much valuable information and guidance for parents can be packed into one single book. One of the many sections in this book has an extensive list of illnesses, what is normally prescribed in conventional medicine for these illnesses, and then the real good stuff --homeopathic remedies that can knock out the illnesses much faster than conventional medicine, and get this -- with NO SIDE EFFECTS! My son is off of all of his old medications and is feeling and looking so much better and stronger. Now I use this book as a reference on what to do and use whenever my two younger boys, I, and even my husband are sick. And keep in mind there is so much more in this priceless book, I've only mentioned one section. I open up this book several times each week and I know once you see what this book has to offer, you will too!

All I can say is WOW. I feel like this book has helped me to be a better parent, and I can say...that my daughter has never had and anti-biotic as a result of following this book and visiting Dr. Feder. I have loaned this book to neighbors, family and friends...It is a life saver!

Natural Baby and Childcare is a great book for treating conditions in adults as well as children. While I was visiting my daughter and grandchildren, I came down with a cold, and used Dr. Feder's book to treat my symptoms. The A to Z section on treating illnesses was easy to navigate and understand. I appreciated the guidelines on home treatments and found the right homeopathic medicine for my symptoms. I feel that the treatments allowed me to heal quicker and enjoy my time with my family. I would recommend this book to adults too!

Read it as a novel, read it when your kids are sick and you are looking for help, read it when you are sick, read it when you want your family to stay healthy. Read it!!!!

This book is inspirational to both mothers, and mothers at heart. I applaud Loren for such a beautiful portrayal of motherhood as well as womanhood. Giving life is really no greater experince.

Loren is an amazing woman! This book is so well-written and truly inspiring. It reminded me of my own mother and how inspiring she is to me. I hope that one day I will be a phenomenal example to my kids as my own mother and Loren have been for me. Mom, if you are reading this, you know what you are getting for Mother's Day!

In her book, No Greater Love, Loren captures motherhood in words as Anne Geddes captures babies through a camera lens. She has the phenomenal ability to ask simple questions that allow moms, new or seasoned, to notice how they appear in the eyes of their child and to savour all the magic moments, large and small. I get so excited when I hear someone I know is expecting. I already know what a treat it will be when they receive this book as a gift.

This has been the perfect gift for me to give to my friends who are expecting. This is one amazing book. A must read for mothers!

Loren is an amazing woman! This book is so well-written and truly inspiring. It reminded me of my own mother and how inspiring she is to me. I hope that one day I will be a phenomenal example to my kids as my own mother and Loren have been for me. Mom, if you are reading this, you know what you are getting for Mother's Day!

I am a telephone triage nurse and this is one of the reference books that we use. All of our copies are beat to death because of how much we use them, it is a favorite of all the nurses. There is a wealth of reliable information in this book! Everything is layed out clearly with an easy to use index. I am buying one to keep at home for reference for my kids and giving them out as gifts at baby showers. This is one book that is a must for parents. I am convinced that using it will keep a lot of parents out of the ER and doctor's offices for things that can be mananged at home.

I looked through the book and some items were read. Very informative. This was a book that I would have liked to have when I had my child several years ago. I had purchased this book for my daughter in law to have for her child. She also looked through the book and said WOW! This is good. Yes, I would recommend this book to any new mother.

I received this book as a baby shower gift before my first child was born, and I have to say, it was the most helpful gift I got. There is so much real, helpful information, including detailed guides on when to worry (and how much). A guide like that can do wonders for new parents, especially if you tend to jump right into panic mode at the first sign of trouble. When my pediatrician gave handouts at the end of the well-baby checkups, and many of them were taken directly from this book, I knew it was a winner. My oldest is 11 and it's still my go-to reference. I buy it every time I'm invited to a baby shower - it really is the best gift.

I can't say enough about how great this book is. I give it to all of my expecting friends now. I really like how you can search by symptoms and most of all how it guides you on the seriousness of the symptoms.

This book has been very helpful as a reference book whenever I've had a question about my daughter's health. It is easy to find what you need and is very common sense about such things as fevers and how to treat them. It's a great companion to the "What to expect" book and I find myself turning to this one first now.

I ordered this book to accompany personal instruction I received on infant massage, after my son was born and we realized he was colicky. Infant massage immediately did several things:
- it helped sooth him through his discomfort
- it gave him a pleasant association with bath time (we massaged after bath)
- it gave me a wonderful opportunity to bond with my son (as Daddies can't breast feed )

I heartily recommend the book and the technique to any parent.

when I ve first seen this book on amazon I thought it is only about how to massage your baby, I thought it is just strokes and no more, and I wasn't 100% content about it. Now after reading it I found every thing about infant massage; the benefit of massage with scientific proof, the strokes, which strok is first and which is last, what about babies who doesn't like massage(like my own boys when they were infants), the effect of it on colicky baby, how massage reshape hte relation with mother and baby. Last but not least, I also like how this book helps big sister/brother to set a strong relation with his/her new sibling.

This is a fundamentally a good teaching tool, especially when there is no one to teach you in person.

I've been using this book and giving it to the parents I teach Infant Massage to for the last 4 years, and I highly recommend it. The information is thorough, and photos are very helpful. All new parents should have this book!

Purchased this book for my sister, who is a first time mom. She had great difficulty in following it. The set up is confusing. The illustrations lack any directional guidance. You need some massage background to follow the written instructions. There is an overwhelming amount of initial instructions that can be a bit intimidating. If you're a massage therapist, this book will be a great addition. If you're a first time parent, with very little time, find another book. Furthermore, the paperback will not stay open while you try the massage moves, so you need someone to hold the book.

This book is invaluable in increasing awareness and education about breastfeeding. It also exposes the negative social and financial implications our country suffers from not placing the needs of parents and families first. I really appreciate that its underlying focus is on the family. This book incredibly informative on a variety of issues all directly related to breastfeeding and the consequent emotional and psychological health of not only the baby, but the mother and entire family as well.

I was raised in a "breastfeeding family" but this book still was amazing. It should be required reading for college students in business ethics courses. Students majoring in health education, nutrition, family sciences, and women's issues, all should read this during their coursework.

The statistics and studies cited, and information contained, are invaluable in understanding how we came to be a formula-feeding society. And they are the nuggets of how we can reverse that situation. Inform yourself! And you'll begin to be able to inform others, too [given opportunities]. I'm amazed how many people don't recognize the duplicity of formula companies in their product marketing, here and in the Developing World.

I can go over all the reason why to read this book, but it's easier to say you have to read it! If you have come across this book, you must be interested in breastfeeding, this book won't tell you how to do it, but it will tell you why and give you a much greater feeling of how to promote it to others!

I'm shocked that a book like this can be around, it's sad that there is enough anti-breastfeeding companies etc. to warrent the book.

This book should be on every mother-to-be's MUST READ list. It goes into great detail about breastfeeding in other cultures, how the medical establishement derails a mothers efforts before she can even get started, and the overly agressive marketing tactics of the formula manufactures.

There are heartbreaking tales of the number of babies who were killed by artifical feeding.

I cannot reccomend this book enough! Read it before you have children, it will make you see formula (and the Nestle corporation) in a whole new light.

This definitive history of formula, pharmaceutical companies and infant death is highly readable, despite its depressing topic. While it would be comforting to think that formula fed babies only die at a higher rate than breastfed in places without access to clean water that just ain't so -- never has been, never will be, and the companies which make formula know that. Which is why the code of advertising (which formula -- which is to say, pharmaceutical -- companies continue to violate) adopted in the early years of the boycott applies around the world, including in the U.S.

Along the way, Baumslag and Michels include some really amusing sidelights like the invention of the stroller by a New York man, and its adoption by Queen Victoria. One tiny snit: they're anti-swaddling, considering it a barbaric, backward practice that only occurs in backward, barbaric places and should be stamped out.

I read an interview with the author in Mothering Magazine that I really enjoyed and decided to look for the book. I was especially hoping for some more information about starting solid foods and using formula until 18 months in children weaned before then that the author spoke about in the interview. However, I found this book to be more of an academic explanation of attachment parenting. It actually seemed more geared towards medical professionals (ironic considering the title, I know) than parents. Well written and from the attachment parenting perspective I sought--just a bit too hefty for me.

For parents looking for a guide to help them follow their hearts, this book will provide an abundant amount of encouragement. Dr. Palmer provides a comprehensive discussion of topics such as responsive parenting, breastfeeding, bonding and much more. New parents will learn what these topics mean and why they matter. Written in a warm and accessible style, parents will find many answers here.

Before I ever had a baby, I wondered why the US has such an abysmal infant mortality rate. According to the CIA factbook, the US ranked 42 worldwide in 2008, with a rate three times higher than the lowest countries. The US also has some of the highest rates of adult psychological disorders like sleep problems, ADHD, depression and PTSD.

This book reviews the vast amount of research suggesting that much of the problem is attributable to "unnatural" infant care practices promoted by US pediatricians in the 20th century. These include formula feeding, scheduled feeding, placing the infant prone in a crib in a separate room at night, removing infants from their mothers shortly after birth, and many more.

I almost never recommend a book without any reservations, and in this case I have to say that I think she overstates the case slightly in a few places. That is to say, although I agree with 98% of her conclusions, only 90% of them are actually proved by the studies she discusses. Nevertheless, if read with a tiny grain of salt, there is no other book that gives the argument so well, so I am comfortable rating it five stars.

Despite the quote on the cover, this not a book about Attachment Parenting but rather (we might say) "Natural Parenting". There is a lot of overlap in the two philosophies, but attachment is just one aspect of Natural Parenting.

The practical message of the book is that it is almost always best for your baby (and you) to follow your instincts and thousands of years of history, and care for your baby the way nature intended.

This book is great, I find it to be a very very useful addition to my baby "how-to-parent" library.

This has become my parenting bible. When nothing worked to cure my baby of his colic and his reduced nursing, pulling at the breast and coming off constantly while screaming and crying, this book helped me get to the ROOT of the problem and not just cover up the symptoms. It CURED his colic! My doctor once told me if I gave her the cure for colic, she'd be a millionaire and if I had a million dollars, I would have given it up for the information contained in this book!

Not only did it contain information that I had never read in any of the other great AP books that I have, but it pointed me in the direction of other under-recognized topics and a glossary of AMAZING books that opened my eyes to the world.

I actually purchased a bunch of these books out of my own pocket, and I'm on social assistance, and gave them away to women whom I saw had children with colic and other symptoms of food allergies. I also gave some away to parents who were letting their newborns cry their poor little hearts out in strollers and car seats while shopping at the mall.

I know this book will help anyone who has enough sense to read it!

I love this book. It's such an easy read, which is great for a busy parent. I also love the author gives flexible approaches. These days, there is so much advice out there, and some times I feel like I am being lectured by sancti-mommies. Instead, Ms. Gross-loh acknowledges parental concerns, and how to make EC work with many different lifestyles. I really enjoyed reading all the anecdotes from other parents. The book is very realistic, and doesn't make grand promises. It's advice is very straight-forward and relaxing.

This book might be worth it if you already have a more organized book about EC itself and want to hear about it from others. Reading quote after quote from parents who are learning/doing elimination communication strikes me as a waste of time and shows poor editing. The quotes might make you feel good, but they won't help you learn to "catch."

I came across this book accidentally in the library. My son was exactly 6 months. The next day I went to get the little potty and my son immediately peed in it. He is 7 1/2 months now and poops and pees in it regularly. We switched to cloth diapers and the whole experience has been amazing. I am so glad I found this book. Overall, we will be using less diapers, save money and have a happier baby. This method is great because you can adapt it to your lifestyle. You can do it full time, part time, occasionally...
I also meet with other moms in my area who do the same. You can find them in yahoo groups. Don't wait and get the book today!

Maybe my expectations for this book were too high. I'm a big ec supporter and was so looking forward to it but felt let down when I finally read it. I found the books by the more established authors Boucke Infant Potty Training: A Gentle and Primeval Method Adapted to Modern Living and Bauer Diaper Free: The Gentle Wisdom of Natural Infant Hygiene far more complete and informative, so if you only plan to read one ec book, go for one of them instead.

I do like the writing style of this book (same goes for the other two ec books) and applaud the author for providing another book in this genre. A strong point is that this book urges parents to take things slowly by using ec part time or just occasionally, however this point and some others are made over and over again.

I didn't find much original material in the book. In short, a rehash with a slightly different emphasis and flavor.

I had been casually ECing my baby and had already read 2 other books about Natural Infant Hygeine. I bought this book just to sort of get re-inspired about the theory and read a new author. Wow! While the other books I'd read were very nice, this one was way better at actually giving solid instructions and advice. Instead of just expecting moms to intuit from day one (the intuition does eventually become the main indicator, but only once you've established EC with baby...) Gross-loh lists the most common pee-times and describes very carefully the how-to of EC. I highly recommend this book both for first time ECers and veterans who might like a pep talk.

All I can say is that I am disappointed with this book.

We're expecting our third child and I picked up this book because I liked the title. I figured almost two years worth of information in one book would be nice since we already kind of know about preganacy and the baby's first year. I wouldn't have to read too much with my busy schedule and maybe get one or two good tips I didn't get before. Was I wrong!

This book is not thin, total 317 pages. And yet, it reads so easy and fast (even considering my first language is not English). As I was reading this book, I was amazed how much information this book is packed with! This book covers not only the generic facts on how your baby grows, but also suggests what you can do as parent(s). It also has many wonderful photos.

Dr. Greene covers physical stuff such as nutrition, but also covers how you act and think may affect your baby. He also covers in detail how the baby develops - very informative and I had to read several passages to my husband. His respect and love for the life also can be felt throughout the book which also increased my own respect, awe, wonder, and love for our third baby.

I love to read and I've skimmed through many books on pregnancy, but this one is the best one and I am reading this thoroughly. This is like an all the best books on pregnancy and first year combined in one!

Although I read this book late in my pregnancy, I would recommend it to any expecting parents! I thought that his insight was more direct (and aligned to my own personal philosophies) than most expectant 'mom' books. Dr. Greene's other book, Raising Baby Green (my personal favorite), encouraged me to pick up this one, and I feel as though many moms and dads have a lot to learn from his experience as both father and pediatrician. Every question from should I eat organic to which diapers to use are covered- don't miss out on this book (it would also make a great shower or congratulations gift!)

My wife and I recently were blessed with the birth of our first child. Being new parents we often have felt overwhelmed and extremely inexperienced. Dr. Greene's book has proven informative and comforting in those moments when we needed a little helpful advice. "From First Kicks to First Steps" is easy and fun to read, and is a great resource for anyone with a little one at home or on the way.

Dr. Greene has put together a remarkable guideline that takes expecting couple from pregnancy through toddlerhood. Much like his award-winning children's health website, DrGreene.com, he does this in an engaging style with well-researched information.

Expectant mothers (and fathers) should look no further. This book is destined to be the "must-have" book for parents-to-be.
