Finally a book that is informative/non-judgemental on a variety issues, concise (which is extremely useful if the little one is already here!)and very enjoyable to read. Life After Baby really explores thoughfully pre-baby concerns, post-baby jitters, marriage questions, the issue of siblings, work choices...the bottom line is the book covers a wonderful spectrum. As a mother of two that enjoyed her professional career before children, this book helped me sort out what I wanted to do for my family at this time. I hope this helps other potential readers. Enjoy!

Life After Baby: What it's really like!

Life After Baby is an invaluable resource for new mothers and mothers of young children. I wish this book had been around when my son was born! (He is now 5.) Unlike other books about motherhood that stick with the facts, try to allay concerns or answer a myriad of questions, Life After Baby is about how it feels to be a mother--and all the attendant joys and fears. The author interviewed lots of women and brings their voices to the pages. Their experiences, their questions, their beliefs, their confusion, their love, all spill out from the chapters. I found the book thought-provoking and as I read it I felt less alone, less isolated. Motherhood is so exhausting and after reading this I felt energized. I highly recommend it for anyone who has pondered the meaning of motherhood! It would make a great gift for a new mom.

A very warm and delightful book to give as a gift, to remind us of life's lessons we never outgrow. Our teachers come in many forms and sometimes new parents need to be gently reminded of this. Our children 'raise' us too! An excellent suggestion for any gift regardless of the occassion.

Solutions for first time and other working parents

Review Date: 2001-02-22
Your Baby And Your Work: Balancing Your Life is a concise, reassuring handbook for (new) working parents. Containing chapters of suggestions for help with problems with sleeping, nursing, feeding, health, play, and separation, Your Baby And Your Work is a deft resource. Thumbnail portraits of parents who have "been there and done that" recently with their children are presented, giving numerous suggestions and examples of solutions for first time and other working parents. Another topic addressed is the role of the other parent in child care, and how to encourage more co-parenting. In all, Your Baby And Your Work gives a firm glance at effective 'working' parenting practices, especially at that turning point when Mom or Dad or both return to employment and begin the dance of juggling child care and work responsibilities. It is most reassuring to hear directly from other parents who have experienced this transition successfully. This is a fine, useful resource for all working parents of young children. Grandparents and prospective parents are another targeted audience.

Very helpful and fast read for new mothers

I got this book from the library and found it to be so helpful that I decided to buy a copy of my own. The instructions are clear and very simple, and also the book shows you what to do using pictures. It goes into how to breast and/or bottle feed without the huge lectures and guilt trips for mothers who decide to bottle feed. It doesn't include every aspect of child care but it's gives the new mom a very good start. It also helps that the book is short and very inexpensive. Makes a great shower gift, especially for the giver who is short on cash.

I was surprised to find no reviews of this book. After the birth of our first child, we received this as a gift and although this reference was a small paperback, it was so full of information I referred to it frequently. The photographs are terrific and this book is an excellent primer for any new parent who wants more information on how to manage the newborn phase of life. I highly recommend it.

Even though I have been around many babies I gained a lot from reading this book. It was great how my husband (who has zero experience with babies) and I both learned things from the author's easy to read style of writing. I recommend getting a copy of this book for yourself as well as one for anyone you know who is pregnant or who just had a baby because if you lend it out you won't be getting it back!

Even though I had worked with a nutritionist and pediatrician for a year in trying to help my now 32 month old child to gain more weight, I still learned a lot from reading this book. It was reassuring to read the food diaries and then Dr. Paula's responses, because it discussed in detail how and what children really eat. As someone who has had to write a toddler's food diary, I can tell you that it's hard to really know how much your child is actually eating (nibble of this and bite of that), compare that to how much they are supposed to be eating according to guidelines(ounces, 1/2 cups, etc.), and come up with a clear picture. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who wanted to get some detailed information on young children's nutrition.

If you want to use aromatherapy on babies you need this book

The authors bring many years of experience in aromatherapy to the writing of this book. They cover their topics in a clear concise manner yet with enough depth that the reader feels empowered to act. My only criticisms are: The authors selection of oils, though well done, left out a few really important oils and the section on "inhalation" wasn't as complete as I'd have liked. The section on massage was very well done with excellent photographs. If you are new to using pure essential oils in support of your younger family members health this is a must buy.
