I've never done pilates before but this book has helped me tremendously in regaining balance and strength after having my baby. my daughter also loves the exercises and can stand doing them for a good 15-20 minutes, which is all I need every day. the book also has great information about infants that other books I've read don't share. definitely recommended :)

This book shows wonderful ways to incorporate your baby into your fitness routine. Great for postpartum through the first year and beyond. Clear photos and good instruction as well as a "How to know if you're doing it correctly" section after each exercise. Excellent! Now I just wish they made a DVD!

Fabulous fitness fun!!

Empowering for the new or veteran mom!!!

Even though I know Beverly Morgan is a highly respected IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant), I was surprised at how MUCH breastfeeding information she packed into this audio book and how beautifully she articulated the connection between baby-mother communication and a successful breastfeeding relationship. There was so much useful information that I had to listen several times. She presented all of this in a way that FELT extremely empowering.

This audiobook is a must-have addition to any new mother's library. I wish there was also a paper version. The audiobook is beautifully narrated and is perfect for the new mom to listen to while she is breastfeeding, pumping, or even driving in the car. The style of the book made it easy to visualize baby's cues, positions, movements, and
vocalizations. Beverly Morgan gives vivid descriptions of all of this baby language and how to know what it means for you and your baby. She goes on to tell you how to respond to these communications/cues in a way that meets your baby's individual needs.

I recommend this audiobook to the new or veteran mom looking for breastfeeding information or simply looking for a more connected relationship with their baby.

This audio book is not just for the first time mother!

If you've ever helplessly held a baby who is crying and wondered what they were trying to tell you, this is the book you need to listen too. After listening to Reading Your Baby's Body Language, I am now able to interpret my newborn baby's facial expressions and hand or leg positions to understand what he needs or wants. There is a lot less frustration on his part and mine. What more could a mother wish for in those early months?

As a busy mom of three children under the age of four, my youngest just a few weeks old, I found this audio book perfect to listen to while driving them all around town. It was easy to stick in the diaper bag and listen to at home while feeding the baby or cooking dinner as well. If only all of the books I wish to read were this convenient! The narrator's voice is very soothing and captures the attention well. I've had a variety of different levels of ease and hardships with my three individual babies with breastfeeding and how I wish I'd have known this information earlier, but it is so helpful with my third-born as well. I look forward to listening to Beverly Morgan's other audio books too!

This book was indispensable to my breastfeeding!

The book's format is the first good thing about it. I had a bad breastfeeding experience with my first child, who is now 3. I ordered the audiobook while pregnant and listened to it in the car on the way to work. Afterwards, I can listen to it during a feeding to help decipher baby's body language. The next best thing is Ms. Morgan's emphasis on becoming a partner with your baby rather than remaining in the teaching role. This helped me not to try to control the breastfeeding sessions, letting them be baby-led, which made baby and me both happier, resulting in improved feedings and milk supply. I would recommend this book to everyone and not just first-time mothers!

Innovative Advice for New Moms

This book offers some new twists to the time honored advice that everyone has heard from their mothers, grandmothers and friends to the lady in line at the grocery store. Ms. Murphy offers practical tidbits ranging from making the baby laugh to more serious matters like leaving the baby with a sitter. All advice is offered with a sense of humor. As a mother a few times over, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the advice and found the format to be engaging and easy to read. I would definitely recommend this book, whether to a new mom or a mom for the fifth time!

As a training Lactation Cunsultant in a local hospital in Israel, I have been working with breastfeeding women for over two years. Often, differences in opinion between the Nursing Staff and Lactation Consultants surface. I found this book to help promote one uniformed goal; the breastfeeding mother. With all of Ms Biancuzzo's up-to-date research and information, and with the book's easy to read format, this book is a welcomed addition to my library.

I am a pediatrician and have been in general pediatric practice for over 25 years. In addition, I have four grown children. I highly recommend this book on general baby and child care and problem management. In my early learning years a book like this one would have been helpful to me both as a mother and as a pediatrician.

This compact little book is power packed with informative and easily readable tips for any mother, from the least experienced new mother to the veteran mother of a large brood. There is always something new to learn, and each child brings new and unexpected challenges. Dr. Baskerville's observations, comments and suggestions come from her long experience in interacting with mothers and children of every sort. It is easy to find your way around this book in order to find the answer to a specific question. It is also a comfort to just read straight through it, or through a section of it, for general information. Issues from taking the baby's temperature to how to position the baby for sleeping to problems with discipline are addressed. She also directs the reader to appropriate sources for further help if this is necessary.

In my opinion, this book, Baby Basics, should be a standard on every mother's nursery shelf. It is a ready reference of most of those little unexpected day to day problems, and it is a pleasure to read.

Dr. Baskerville's "Baby Basics" is a common sense approach to caring for babies and toddlers. She answers many questions new parents ask in a way that is easy to understand and to carry out. I am a labor/delivery nurse and am in a position of answering many of these same questions from new parents before I send them home with their babies. I am so happy to have a book like this to refer to and I happily recommend it to my patients. I am buying a copy for each of my own children to use as they become parents for the first time or even if they already have a child. There should be more manuals like this for parents. Thank you Dr. Baskerville.

This is a delightful book enjoyable for both young children and adults. The photographer presents the 19 babies in similar poses at intervals during their first year of life. It is great to see the diverse selection of babies go through the same developmental stages.

This is my 9-month old little girl's favorite book - she kisses each baby as I turn the page. She knows exactly where I keep the book and pulls it out for me to read her. And the joy in her face each time she see a new page is wonderful! It's fun to look at how each baby has changed over the course of a year. My husband, friends, etc. that pick up our copy of the book have fun doing that - its for all ages I guess! It is great reading time for both of us. I just ordered Penny's other 2 books and can't wait for them to come. Thank you for wiring this book.

Awakening the Spiritual Aspects of Motherhood

Review Date: 2000-12-22
Ms. Hallett has clearly and beautifully addressed the "other side" of postpartum days. Aside from the physical, the days and weeks after birth offer each mother the gift of awareness. Awareness of the child, her life and herself. These stories of women experiencing the first nudges of spiritual awakening through motherhood push us all to examine our own experiences with our children. The pages ask us to consider the existance of something more powerful around us. It is a one of a kind book, daring to look at the most powerful time in a woman's life. Thank you, Elisabeth Hallett, for recognizing the miracle of this time.

Uniquely spellbinding!

While I often pour through a book from cover to cover within a day or two, not so with Elisabeth Hallett's _In the Newborn Year_! I savoured it for weeks! With every revelation and each reported experience, I was cast further and further adrift on a sea of my own thoughts and memories, recalling with amazing detail my experience of that intense, joyful and sometimes tumultuous time of life referred to as the postpartum.

This book was definitely not what I expected! More than conventional stories of mother/infant bonding, Ms. Hallett gives us intimate and thought-provoking glimpses into her own and other women's postpartum experiences, which for many include voyages into exotic imaginal realms, and mysterious, sometimes disturbing altered states of awareness. From the blissful to the surreal, no two experiences described in her book are alike, yet they are connected by a common thread. The message is that even the most difficult of postpartum journeys are transformational opportunities for the psyche which may lead, not only to a deep and more intimate connection between mother and child, but also to greater levels of personal growth and self-awareness, and the birth of enhanced creativity and freedom. My only regret is that _In the Newborn Year_ was not yet published when I began my own journey into motherhood!

This is the 2nd book I got from Helen. After looking through her two dvds on baby yoga and her book Yoga for Toddlers, it's fair to admit that Helen is a genius! This book is GREAT for anyone seriously working with small children and who wants to incorporate fun-filled action that is also important to children's health and physical development. This book is ground breaking because I've ever seen anyone incorporate such concepts into a kindergarten or elementary school.
And the poses do WORK! These ideas should seriously be considered for kids pre-k and up in any school in any country. I can't wait for the dvd - if there is one on this book! Helen is a genius!

18-month old yogi

Review Date: 2008-03-29
I've just begun to use this book, and it is fantastic. My 18-month old son is very active and really enjoys trying out different poses after watching me do a short routine. He especially likes down dog, which is not surprising given that babies like to look at the world from different vantage points. The author gives good advice on how to instruct your child using simple language and keeps the routines brief, which is perfect for us at this point. Overall, we've had a lot of fun and have laughed quite a bit. A fun way to engage with your toddler.
