This book is fantastic. Not only is the story adorable, but the pictures are amazing. It is the best illustrated book my daughter owns. She is 2-1/2 and loves this book so much she has memorized it. She "reads" it from cover to cover all the time. What is cuter than hearing a little voice say, "Baby Please, Baby Please!" It is a must have for your toddlers library.

Had to buy!

I checked this book out from the library for my 17 month old daughter and she is absolutely in love with it! We always read a book before she goes to sleep and this is the one that she has chosen every day, twice a day (nap included). It works out well since the book ends with the baby getting a kiss from Mama as she tucks her in for bedtime. I decided to buy it for her so that I won't have to keep renewing the loan. Beautiful images!!!

I believe that it is important to introduce children to reading as soon as possible. I love reading this book to my 4 month old daughter, especially at night as part of our bedtime routine. This book would appeal to anyone with children from newborns to toddlers, regardless of race. The topic of this short story is universal, as it discusses the routines that a toddler goes through in a day. The writing is simple and rhythmic with a humorous and loving tone. The illustrations are beautiful and appear to hold my daughters interest. We will be reading this book as she grows into a toddler, if she doesn't eat it first. She loves putting everything in her mouth.

This is a nice, simple book to give baby food making a try. However, I have found a free website that provides more information & a plethora of recipes. Go to [..]. I still reference this book for tips, comparisons, and additional recipes.

I've really enjoyed this book. I was looking for a book to give me bare bones basics about making baby food (how much to prepare, how long to cook, etc), but this has so much more. It has been so easy and taken so little time to stockpile a freezer full of healthy homemade food that my child relishes.

Somewhat confusing

This book has a lot of great recipes but if you're looking for information on how to feed your baby when and how much, you won't find it here. Also, the recipes are broken down by age, for example, 6 months and older, which is confusing to me because some of these recipes have ingredients that I know a 6 month old can't eat yet. It would be better if the recipes where for babies 6-9 months or something like that.

Wish I would have bought it sooner!!

What a great book! I am a first time mom and a mother of 5 recommended it. She did not discover until her 5th child and said what a difference it made. Boy is she right on. You can use (most) of these recipes into toddler stages by changing the texture. Get this book.

I've looked at several other baby food books and found this one to be the best. It offers age appropriate food selections and includes meal plans.
The book provides a wide variety of easy to make recipes, offering new flavors at every stage. Clear and easy to follow directions. The book has side bar on pages for tips. All recipes include nutritional information based on serving size. My baby has loved every recipes I've made!

...from the day you get that positive test until the weeks after bringing your perfect little bundle home.

I had the most wonderful opportunity to take my childbirth education classes from Penny Simkin herself. She gave us this book, as well as "The Birth Partner," as reading materials for her class. I don't know where I would be without this. All through my pregnancy, labor, and the weeks following, I had this book by my side. It answered any possible question I could think of, and when it came down to a c-section, I was able to try to calm myself by thinking back to what I read in this book. I can't believe they were able to fit so much into so few of pages!

Great pictures and illustrations, wonderful information, and a must have for any newly pregnant mom. I would have been lost without it!

THE Pregnancy book

After starting "what to expect" and being told that it was horrible I was given this book by my midwives. It is THE book every pregnant woman should read. It does cover pregancy but not all the scare tactics that you read in the other books that make you paranoid about breathing. I found it very helpful in creating a birthing plan and knowing all the options I had. I didn't have the pregnancy I thought I would have as my sons were born prematurely and didn't survive, when it happened I knew exactly what was going on. On the other hand in "what to expect" the chart that says abdominal discomfort, you may have gas or you may be going into pre-term labor. Give me a break! So again...pregnant, thinking of being pregnant, know someone who is pregnant, this is the book!

Most helpful book, and I have them all!!

I bought this book in my childbirthing class since it was recommended by the instructor. Despite the title it mainly focuses on the labor part but it is VERY informative about all your options including what medications are available and how to go natural and it really tries to get your partner involved. However it's surprisingly boring considering the subject matter. There are much better books out there that are not only informative but easy to read too.

When people say that "Children don't come with an instruction manual" they obviously have never read this bad boy. TONS of useful information for parents and their child's first year. One or two bits of information in the book seem a bit dated, and it may be time to revise the book, but overall wonderful. We bought it used via AMAZON so we saved a lot of $$$.

This book answers every question you can think of during your pregnancy. It covers all physical expectations and surprises, as well as what to expect emotionally from the day you find out you're pregnant, to the day after delivery. It even tells you what kind of pain to expect during labor and delivery. It describes in laymen's terms what is going on inside your body and all the medical jargon and testing.

Mayo Clinic is a world-renowned hospital with wonderful doctors who collaborated on this book. And the best thing is, it's far from being preachy and paranoid. The Mayo Clinic Guide to Pregnancy is based on the truth that women have been successfully getting pregnant and having babies for THOUSANDS OF YEARS and all those strict rules and myths about what you can and can't do are not necessarily true. My interpretation is that this book encourages a healthy lifestyle without alchohol, drugs or smoking... other than that, the average pregnant woman has very few limitations.

Good book, but appears out dated....

I was very excited to receive this book, and started reading it immediately. It is a large hard-cover edition, certainly making it feel as though it has all the information you'll ever need. I'm sure this book has tons of good information, but when I got to the nutrition section, I knew that the food pyramid they showed was out of date. I hadn't checked the copyright when I ordered the book and was disappointed to see that it was published in 1994! 12 years old is pretty old when it comes to any medical/health information, and so I'm returning it for the more updated "Mayo Clinic Guide to a healthy Pregnancy". I would have liked the new version to also cover the first year of life like this book, but I need up-to-date information, or I won't trust it.

This is absolutely the best resource for anyone trying to conceive, pregnant, with an infant or just curious about the entire process.

My husband and I used this exculisevly with our first child. Now that we are ready to have a second, I've tried other books (What to Expect, Girlfriend's Guide, etc) and have been dissapointed by all. This is truly the only book you need for pre-conception through your child's first birthday.

I love that this book take a serious tone and a more professional viewpoint. It doesn't joke or make fun of any part of the pregnancy process. One of my favorite parts was its breakdown of labour and delivery. I read this section many times and made notecards to take to the hospital with us.

Everytime our daughter sneezed, spit-up or had a fever we ran for this book. (hey we were first time parents!) I was living very far from my own family in a country were I didn't speak the language. This book was my bible and comfort. I never thought to look anywhere else for answers.

when I ve first seen this book on amazon I thought it is only about how to massage your baby, I thought it is just strokes and no more, and I wasn't 100% content about it. Now after reading it I found every thing about infant massage; the benefit of massage with scientific proof, the strokes, which strok is first and which is last, what about babies who doesn't like massage(like my own boys when they were infants), the effect of it on colicky baby, how massage reshape hte relation with mother and baby. Last but not least, I also like how this book helps big sister/brother to set a strong relation with his/her new sibling.

Purchased this book for my sister, who is a first time mom. She had great difficulty in following it. The set up is confusing. The illustrations lack any directional guidance. You need some massage background to follow the written instructions. There is an overwhelming amount of initial instructions that can be a bit intimidating. If you're a massage therapist, this book will be a great addition. If you're a first time parent, with very little time, find another book. Furthermore, the paperback will not stay open while you try the massage moves, so you need someone to hold the book.

I read this book when my first child was born 5 1/2 years ago, and it set the course for how I feed my children. I came away from this book with clear, applicable guidelines for presenting food to my children. This is sound dietary and psychological advice that stays at an abstract enough level that you can apply the principles to your home diet, instead of presenting specific recipes or diet plans you must follow.

This is one of the few child rearing books whose impact has resonated five years after reading it.

Review Date: 2004-05-17
Of all the books I have read on feeding babies, toddlers, and children, I find this the most realistic and most the clearly based in scientific research.

It's clearly written and well organized, and doesn't recommend any strange foods you wouldn't put on the table for guests or tuck into yourself.

That said, I was disappointed at the authors recommendation to start kids on refined breads and crackers because 'they don't need the extra fiber' -- along side the suggestion that you not start your child out on anything you don't want them to prefer. It seems contradictory to me, and my little guy is getting whole grains only. I was also disappointed at the author's lack of knowledge about breastfeeding. In the parts of the book that deal with slightly older children, they have some misleading and out of date information that discounts the benefits of extended breastfeeding and overstates the benefits of cows milk and artificial baby milks.

But, even so, I must say that they have some extremely wise and useful information about how children think about and respond to food and some excellent advice for how to raise a child with a good relationship to food -- it's balanced (an occasional piece of candy at a friend's house or a packet of chips after swim class won't kill most children) but weighted in favor of whole foods and higher nutrition.

Just what I was looking for!

I would recommend this book for all parents. I wish I'd read it when my oldest was born instead of when he was 2 1/2 and my youngest was 1. Good, practical tips for getting toddlers to eat veggies. OVerall healthy eating practices recommended. Debunks some myths/wives tales, ec. Pediatricians should be recommending this, too. I think I do a good job with my children's nutrition, especially when I see the junk that most of America and even some of my friends let their children eat, but this definitely inspired me to do much better.

As a registered nurse and Mom this book is essential. It goes through the stages of feeding starting with breast vs. bottle, including exellent info on breasfeeding. You dont even need to buy a seperate breastfeeding book. Then moves on to babys first foods, including which foods to introduce at certain ages. Gives sample menus for babies of all ages. Also helps parents understand that pushing food on kids only makes them not want to eat. Helps with tips for picky eaters. How to get your kids to eat the foods you want them to eat with them knowing it.

I was laughing to myself and Im sure I got a few stares. This book was a hilarious look at eveything from Breastfeeding, to Bathing, to the essentials needed. It read like stereo instructions which made it all the more hilarious. Since I have had my hands on this book I have found it's been the PERFECT gift at every baby shower I have gone to.
I wonder if Mr. Tague could convince the hospitals to give this out with each new delivery? :-P

If you are looking for a guide to starting your baby on freshly prepared home-made foods, this is it. There is a nice introduction with information on all kinds of concerns and thoughts (i.e. allergies, milks, sensitivities, etc.). The author spends some time describing the process of introducing foods to Baby and takes you through to toddler stages. And, I really appreciated that it wasn't overly complicated or detailed - it has all the basics that you need and a LOT of recipes. She even gives "recipes" for the very first meals (how to steam/cook one-two ingredient purees). I love this book, it has been very helpful, and I plan on buying it for other new moms who want to make their own baby food.

The best gift for any mother!

I have an older copy of this book from 1992 and even though my youngest is 6, I'm still using the recipes as they've become family favourites! I've used this book to make baby food from scratch for all of my children (oldest is now 10) and love how clearly it's laid out, with really easy to follow directions, and great advice and information to guide you.
You don't need lots of expensive equipment to make your own baby food, and the benefits to your baby are enormous, not to mention the money you will save.
My children all eat salads, home made soups and whole wheat breads, and all kinds of fruits and veggies that most of their friends turn their noses up at!
I highly recommend this book for anyone, at any skill level in the kitchen, who wants to start their baby off with a healthy nutritious diet.

For mommies (or daddies!) who want to give their babies and toddlers fresh, tasty, nutritious food but need some assistance in the what and the how, this is the book! I really enjoy Annabel's style, as well as the recipes she gives - from simple one-food purees to more involved (but still easy!) combination plates. At each stage of my babies' growth, when I started wondering what I could be feeding them (besides bland store-bought food), all I had to do was flip open this book. She gives you a little check-box section on each recipe telling you whether it freezes or not, and also where you can mark whether baby liked that particular recipe or not. Check out her other cookbooks, too!

This book has been a great resource for finding green products for baby, from "flushable" diapers to bpa-free plastic bottles. I've found several wonderful products online using this book as a starting point. It offers good advice for whatever commitment level you're able to make in going green without making you feel guilty if you can't rebuild your entire home ('cause really how many of us can do that). I'd recommend it to anyone interested in transitioning to a greener lifestyle.

I was absolutely thrilled to read this book, knowing it's available for parents' planning on having children.

Raising Baby Green is an essential guide to protect your baby from what are mostly unseen dangers. These dangers are found in everyday products everyone uses--from food, to personal baby care products to baby furniture and much more. They are the pesticides, chemicals, preservatives and additives that can harm babies.

The book covers everything you need to raise a child in the safest possible manner, beginning in the womb. The book guides to help make non-toxic and safe choices for everything that affects the baby.

The bonus is that a green lifestyle is beneficial to everyone in the family and for the environment as well.
