I just love Becky Kelly, I have just about everything she has ever put out, and when I saw this book (and Snips and Snails) I had to buy both, one for each of my children, a girl and a boy. The illustrations are unbelievably beautiful, peaceful, sweet, adorable, the text is sweet, I could go on and on. I just love Becky Kelly's artwork! I'm creating a keepsake box for each of my children to give to them when they grow up and am thinking about including these books, along with their Becky Kelly photo albums, baby book, etc. You get the picture. :D

This book presents massage techniques for a variety of common childhood complaints (colic, teething, cough, and so forth) and I was amazed to find something so simple to be so effective! As a society, we tend to run to the medicine cabinet for every little thing that's not right, and our "experts" (and advertisers) reinforce that; but Ms. Mercati offers simple, easy-to-implement suggestions that seem to provide relief of common ailments (at least for my kids). The book is laid out well and information is easily accessible, with clear illustrations and well-written instructions. This would even make a nice baby shower present for a new mom.
A parent's loving touch is healing in and of itself, but this book makes yours more so.

This delicious book is a kind and thorough companion for any women thinking about become pregnant or rearing a baby. But it is also a fascinating reading for fathers or any man interested in the emotional adventure that all mothers, babies and fathers pass through. It doesn't look like a divulgative book. It doesn't sounds like a book written by a psychoanalist. It is very well written and easy to read. And when you begin to read it, it is difficult to stop to go to sleep.

My sister-in-law gave me this set when I got pregnant and it really helped me to understand what was going on in my belly step by step. I can't say that everything was covered, but it touches most of the subjects, we, moms-to-be, are concerned during gestation. Sickness, nutrition, exercises, baby development and possible illness genetic, non-genetic), what will happen during delivery, kinds of delivery we may face, options we may choose from, all was told. I rated 5 stars because there are so much information to be covered that a book of 500+ pages wouldn't be enough, but this book pretty much covered almost everything we need to know. I always read the book first and was able to ask specific questions to my doctor in my pre-natal exams. I am now using the second book " Your baby's First Year week by week" and I'm glad to have it in hand to help me take care of my 10 month-old baby.

"What Should I Feed My Baby" is an excellent resource for parents, incorporating the latest advances in nutrition (glycemic index, omega 3 fatty acids, probiotics) in an easy to read format.
We have been supplementing our son's diet with flax and vitaminc C on the book's recommendation, and that has noticably cut down his day care sniffles.
The recipes she provides cover everything from purees for young babies to healthy stews for older babies, and they are not difficult to prepare.
The book is British, so some of the recommended products will be hard to find in the states.

Excellent for first time baby food chef. Lots of explanations & not anywhere near as daunting as I thought it would be. Wish I had done this with my first baby, very satisfying to feed them home cooked food (plus it's so much less expensive)!

Well written and knowledgeable book on prepping and preparing food for babes. Has a great chart on what foods are suggested to start when. Especially helpful for first time parents learning how to feed their child.

I don't understand people's negative reviews, especially those complaining that the recipes are too simplistic. What do you expect? Coq au Vin? It's food for BABIES... Anyway, that aside, I make lots of purees on a Saturday or Sunday while my son is napping and freeze them in ice cube trays (except for meat and grain purees, which we keep in the fridge because they don't freeze well). It takes a couple of hours to make three veggie purees, three fruit purees, one grain and one meat puree. This will last my son for about two weeks, and all we have to do during that time is microwave or stovetop three or four cubes of fruit and add oatmeal (or whatever cereal your child likes) for breakfast, or three-four cubes of veggies and add some grain and meat from the fridge for lunch and dinner. Pretty simple, yet our son gets a variety of food every day. Once your food introductions (to check for allergies) are done, you can mix up whatever purees you think sound good. Be creative and you and your child will be well-rewarded.

As a first time mom, this book served as a guideline of what foods to feed my baby first since my doctor wasn't much help. I knew to start with veggies then fruit from my doctor's advise because babies tend to like sweet food first. My daughter is now 7 months and using the food index in the back of the book to know how to create simple pureed foods has been very helpful. I highly recommend it to any new mom.

I purchased this after my daughter was born. We have loved all the recipes so far...especially the meat loaf (and my husband doesn't usually like meatloaf). It also has great baby food recipes and advice for the first year. I will be using many of these recipes after the kids are grown! Great purchase!

We got this from the library first before buying it and we love it. I have an 8 month old son who loves the simple story line and the pictures. He can follow it and it does not get tedious for us to read. I also like that there is a diverse group of characters and activities, not just cookie cutter like a lot of kids stories.

My child picked this out at the library randomly...and we loved it enough to buy our own copy. It's great, with a nice repetitive rhyming scheme that promotes basic literacy and entrances my LO. Plus, bonus that there are same sex couples in there. I love letting her know that she's not the only one out there with two mothers! We definitely "read into" the pictures (which are ambiguous, if you're REALLY stuck on teaching intolerance) and am glad to see that the authors were kind enough to include all types of families. LOVE this book!

A good gift idea for a toddler under $9.00--
I saw this book at a children's author book conference, and I loved it because it showed how babies aren't just one race, but made up of many beautiful races. This year I bought it for my best friend's two year old. She is Ethopian and loved it! It repeats the words, Every day, every where, babies are...(different scenerios) and the illustrations have such detail. My friend's two year old was mesmerized by all the details in the pictures. A good way to get a toddler involved when you are reading this book to them, would be to ask questions like, "Where is the baby in the car seat?" "Where is the baby in the stroller?"..
This is my first review (even though I own over 1,000 children's books in my classroom library that I have purchased) and often I find the reviews helpful on Amazon.

OK, this seems really cheesy, but I can't read this book all the way through without at least one tear welling up. And, I am really not the overly sentimental type. The combination of lovely text and beautiful illustrations makes this an extremely heartwarming book. And, yes, I did notice the two same-sex couples depicted in the book, but it really takes some observational skills to notice them. It is not something that would necessarily catch the attention of a toddler. Regardless, I am happy to have the opportunity to expose my daughter to depictions of diverse families. An underlying theme of the book is that everywhere, there are babies who are doing the same sorts of things, regardless of their race, gender, family composition, etc. As she gets older, my daughter and I can discuss the different families if she wants, or we can just enjoy the book together for what it is - a beautifully-crafted masterpiece for all who love and appreciate babies and children.

I first used this book with my first son. I made quite a few recipes and happily bought little to no store baby food. Everything is easy. Instructions are easy. I'm now using it again with my second son. It's been a great help and I love the recipes for older children as the are good for the whole family.
The negative. Some recipes include ingredients that based on other sources should not be served to children until later. I'm prety strict with these things so I don't follow all the book's guidance. Example I waited on eggs and dairy until after 1. I also limit the cookies and cakes but the book has a few more recipes for these type items than I thought was needed. But again, I'm pretty strict with these things.

This was the first baby cookbook I ever purchased. My little girl is now 2 years old and I still use the cookbook. I make meals and snacks for her and myself using the book. The delicious recipes are just the bonus to this great book. The information about food and children was especially beneficial. If anyone I know is having a baby I get them this book.

Provides the recipes to take your baby through the puree stage and beyond. No baby could possibly eat 50 or 100 different purees; this cookbook gives a realistic number, including the basics (e.g., pears, sweet potatoes) as well as some combos I would not have thought of myself (e.g., black beans and plain yogurt to make baby bean dip). I like the fact that there are recipes to suit the different eating stages of toddlers, so the cookbook will grow with your child. Some of the (low-sugar) cookie recipes sound yummy even to me!!

I just got this book in the mail today and it is by far the best baby food book I have seen! The recipes are simple, healthy, and sometimes very creative!
The book also has a very simple layout, which makes searching for the right age range much easier than other popular books.
I made the Baby Biscotti tonight. I expect that my 8 month son will love them, because I sure did! They were really good!
I highly recommend this book. It's the best purchase I have ever made!
