trying to find a book about the impact a 2nd child will have on your family?Review Date: 2008-03-23
Flowers' narrative voice is pleasant without wasting your time. As with all too many books about breastfeeding, the format is a little large for holding comfortably while nursing. The voices of many, many mothers who have Already Been There are included within a structure that lets you look up an answer to a question you have quickly.

The best book on pregnancy and the first year of your baby! Look no furthur.Review Date: 2006-09-12
This book is not thin, total 317 pages. And yet, it reads so easy and fast (even considering my first language is not English). As I was reading this book, I was amazed how much information this book is packed with! This book covers not only the generic facts on how your baby grows, but also suggests what you can do as parent(s). It also has many wonderful photos.
Dr. Greene covers physical stuff such as nutrition, but also covers how you act and think may affect your baby. He also covers in detail how the baby develops - very informative and I had to read several passages to my husband. His respect and love for the life also can be felt throughout the book which also increased my own respect, awe, wonder, and love for our third baby.
I love to read and I've skimmed through many books on pregnancy, but this one is the best one and I am reading this thoroughly. This is like an all the best books on pregnancy and first year combined in one!
I love Dr. Greene!Review Date: 2008-01-07

MY PARENTING BIBLE!Review Date: 2007-11-06
Not only did it contain information that I had never read in any of the other great AP books that I have, but it pointed me in the direction of other under-recognized topics and a glossary of AMAZING books that opened my eyes to the world.
I actually purchased a bunch of these books out of my own pocket, and I'm on social assistance, and gave them away to women whom I saw had children with colic and other symptoms of food allergies. I also gave some away to parents who were letting their newborns cry their poor little hearts out in strollers and car seats while shopping at the mall.
I know this book will help anyone who has enough sense to read it!
E. Prago's unstated assumption from July 28, 2006Review Date: 2006-09-14
The medical establishment--by which I mean to refer to the conventional practice of "medicine" in the allopathic hospitals and doctors' offices of the Western world--kills more people each year due to negligence, misdiagnosis, and sheer incompetence, than all car accidents and other accidents combined (google for the statistics on this, if you are inclined to doubt).
Surely we could at least open our minds to the *possibility* that there are intelligent people outside the good-ol-boys'-club (AMA) who can evaluate research data, draw informed conclusions, and pass along the relevant information, whilst citing their sources so any interested parties can review the original research themselves, and form their own conclusions.
All of which Dr. Palmer does admirably.
After all, it is just SO easy to mount an 'ad hominem' attack. You just say that 'so-and-so isn't "expert" enough' to suit you....and, Voila!
But you can say this about *anyone*, whether they have an M.D. or not. When people who DO have an M.D. say *exactly* the same things, it is oh-so-easy to dismiss their equally-reasonable conclusions, by perfunctorily labeling them as "quacks".
Read the book. Make up your own mind.

The Next Consumer MovementReview Date: 2001-04-23
Read "It's No Accident" and ask yourself, why aren't American manufacturers required to safety test most baby products before marketing them? How can they be allowed to set their own voluntary safety standards? Why don't most parents hear about the tens of millions of unsafe children's products recalled every year? What is the CPSC and why can't it effectively protect our children from disabling injuries and death?
"It's No Accident", which Marla dedicated to Danny's memory, shows that his death was a symptom of a fundamentally-flawed system. Read this book and warn your friends. Nothing will bring Danny back to life, but "It's No Accident" will prevent other, needless tragedies. It is the cornerstone of the next big consumer movement.

an inspiring treasure of quotations, poems, and anecdotesReview Date: 1999-01-08
FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN is an inspiring treasure of quotations, poems, and anecdotes that celebrate today's children and the child living within each of us. As comforting as advice from Grandma and long-time family friends, this charming book can refresh exhausted parents giving them the courage and sense of humor they need to carry on. It includes favorite stories of famous parents, showing how they met the challenges of rearing children, communicating, setting boundaries, encouraging creativity, intelligence and compassion, sharing love and letting go. This book is truly a reminder of the joy and special magic that is childhood, helping us recognize its fleeting nature and precious beauty. We have more love, patience, joy and awe for our children. Every page is easy to read with humor, memorable quotes, and sensible advice. FOR THE LOVE OF CHILDREN gives us "a reason to thank the Universe for the incredible gift of childhood."

Kangaroo care is five starsReview Date: 2006-07-09
Thoroughly covers its topicReview Date: 2006-07-08
I also found it was quite informative in the realm of not only the care of preemies (and their signs of distress/contentment), but of full-term infants as well. So, if you're wondering how best to help your small and/or sick baby in the NICU, or are wondering just what benefits the act of such skin-to-skin contact can bring to both you and your full-term newborn, the book is a very good--and helpful--read.
Beyond proven!Review Date: 2004-09-04
Two and a half years later I gave birth to a full term daughter but used KC again because, "it couldn't hurt" and we never suffered those backwards hours that newborns have and I bounced back faster after this birth because I was resting more. Kangaroo Care is worth buying, in fact buy two so you will still have one when you pass one on!! :-)
