This book is awful. The name should be called should be called "Sugar Coating the Bitter Pill of Herpes" or "Herpes; Your
Sex Life Does Not Have to Change at All" If you have herpes one should not have unprotected sex outside of marriage. This
book does not endorse this practice. I realy don't understand how the so called M.D.'s that wrote this book can live with
the fact that every other page of this book does not say "If you have herpes do not have unprotected sex!!!!". The woman who
gave me herpes said there were risks but I did not have to wear a condom. This book is filled with similar propoganda. Her
excusses must have come straight out of this book. "..it can be recesive for along time, you may have already had it..",
"..at least I told you, and I was not maliscious..". If you care about not spreading herpes, this is book is not to be read.

I found the book very easy to read, and it provided a wealth of information. It not only outlines what Herpes is but offers
insight into how and why people respond as they do when they find out they have it. It also covers how to tell a potential
partner and, more importantly, how to limit the risk of transmission.

As an STD Patient Advocate and as a person living with herpes, I have personally handed copies of this book to several people
who have been diagnosed with herpes.
I believe that it provides a clear overview of the herpes virus, the risks, the treatment options, the preventative measures and so forth.
When a person is newly diagnosed, they can become overwhelmed with all the misleading information and even horrific photos they may find on the internet. This book is a means to minimize the confusion.
If you are looking for a resource that explains the virus fully, this is it! If you are looking for a book that explains how best to live with herpes, check out Dr. Ruth's new book -- Dr. Ruth's Guide to Talking About Herpes.
Two books that anyone with herpes won't want to be without!

I have had herpes for 11 years and I highly recommend this book to anybody that has herpes or has a partner that has herpes.
It does a pretty good job of answering your questions. It covers both the medical and emotional issues of coping with herpes.

This book is accurate, easy to read, and written by a very well respected HSV researcher. It is slightly varied from most
herpes books because is told from the perspective of a pediatrician. The size makes it approachable and easy to read in a
short time, too.

* In general, this book helped me and my partner to understand the basic clinical facts and some lesser known clinical information
about herpes, transmission, symptoms, treatment, etc. * Re: transmission: The author offers perspectives which surprisingly
contradict some commonly held ideas about what is "safe" and "not safe", which makes this book particularly useful, if not
a bit scarey. * Re: legal issues: The section on disease transmission and the ethics of disclosure is also well done and
important. The author cites a case where someone who was lied to about a partner's STD status was awarded $600,000 in damages
for pain and suffering, given the lifetime effects of herpes transmitted without honest disclosure. * Re: approach and tone:
The book's appeal would have been increased with a more personal tone, with the author's voice addressed to us folks out
here grappling with these difficult issues, and often at risk from partial knowledge and word-of-mouth guidelines. As it
is the book is rather dispassionate, as if the busy physician author had transcribed a series of medical school lectures.
* Re: also needed: Colored photographs of what typical outbreaks look like would have been very useful, as an addition
to his useful black & white line drawings of virus transmission details. A good bit more could also have been provided about
details of "safer sex" and relationship issues since we most need that out here in the real world. * Re: bottom line: As
a clinical medical fact source it is an excellent and useful book.

I believe this also works for fever blisters. (I haven't read this book, but want to tell fellow sufferers about this.)
Go out and buy at least 4 toothbrushes. When you have a canker sore, be sure to brush your teeth at least 4 times a day,
each time with a different toothbrush. Don't use that toothbrush again for at least 24 hours -- maybe 48 hours in a wet climate.
Brush all the rest of your mouth and gums and tongue and teeth first, then end with a gentle brush across the sore. I used
to get a canker sore which would blossom into two more at the same time, with the peak of pain coming about 5 days into it.
This technique usually means just one sore that goes away within a few days. Try it and pass it on.

I can not comment on whether the treatment works or not but I can tell you that the publisher of this title makes promises
that they do not keep and I would advise against doing business with them

I bought this book from the writer's website since it wasn't available from any of the other online booksellers because it
was out-of-print.
It's written in easy-to-read plain English. The author admits up front in the Introduction that he isn't a doctor but he has a Bachelors of Science degree and research and development is his experience. In 1993 he was diagnosed with herpes and he spent the next two years reading everything he could find on herpes and viruses.
After that, he put all that information together and tried it on himself. The procedures he came up with worked and he claims to be herpes-free (no more symptoms at least). He then put it all together in this book. It's only 61 pages long but it has a lot of good information in it without all the medical jargon to fill up white space and confuse you. Besides the simple procedures to tackle the virus without any side-effects for most people, he claims a 100% success-rate with everyone who's used his system.
I was diagnosed years ago with herpes but I've never had the serious outbreaks that others have. I've been using the procedures in his book for two months now and the one symptom I had went away soon after I started his procedures. The procedures are basically a slight diet and exercise change, vitamins, supplements, and a couple natural and herbal topical and oral treatments. I've had no side-effects other than the loss of symptoms.
I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but it has worked for me. The only failures (3%) I know of is when people stray from the program or get reinfected and once they got back on track with the program they were a success also.
I most definitely recommend this book to anyone with herpes.

Does the word syntax mean anything to Nancy Wadler? Or grammar? Is it too much to expect an understanding -- however minimal
-- of proper punctuation? This is an otherwise cogent text on the effects of herpes ruined by Ms. Wadler's sloppy elocution
on its "psychological aspects." After reading this inartful summary, I am confident that I would rather be exposed to the
effects of the disease rather than more of her prose.
