Deserted Island Double-Take!

Review Date: 2007-12-09
I have studied Astrology for almost 20 years. For a brief period at the peak of my studies I did practice Astrology and was working toward NCGR certification. I chose to put my energies into having a family, however, and put Astrology aside for awhile. I still use it as a tool and have come back to it in the last year. I thought I'd write some reviews on the many books i do own. As I clicked on this book (my favorite) I actually did a double take at Ms Gallanti's review written in 2003, thinking i ALREADY wrote it. Here's why: I too, have said many times over the years that "if I were asked to take only ONE Astrology book to a deserted island for the rest of my life, it would be Mr Arroyo's Astrology Karma & Transformation"!

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, just buy it, and I'll see y'all on that island someday!

I loved the Owners Manual Book I received as a shower gift with my first child SO much that I shared it with many other parents... so many that I lost track of who and where it ended up. When a friend had a baby I went online to purchase the book for her and found this Starter Kit... which includes the book and so much more. I loved it so much I bought one for myself when my second child was born. It's so funny and actually helpful too. The growth chart with stickers is a great idea!!! Buy this for any first time parents - they will love it!!!

Great gift for any first time parent!

The info in this book is not only helpful, but also written in a very user friendly way. Everything is well organized and is straight to the point. I enjoyed reading this book cover to cover (unlike other baby books that were given to me that I found too wordy). I recommend this book for anyone that is having a hard time getting their mate to read baby books. The book also includes charts that can be used to track your baby's progress. The other things in this keepsake box are not necessary, but are very nice to have. The instructional poster is not only useful, but also a great conversational piece in the nursery.

I don't know crap about kids. I'm even more clueless about what to get soon-to-be-parents. When a hipster friend of mine with great taste recommended this kit I thought, "Thank God, my baby-gifting needs are taken care of for the foreseeable future". . . and it was so.

I have purchased not one, not two, but SEVEN of these kits over the last 18 months (geez people). The book is very wry, the bonus items clever and useful, what more do you want? Everyone gets a kick out of this thing. My penpal in Oshkosh, my DJ friend in San Francisco, it's a winner.

Somewhat hesitant on purchasing growth charts since a lot of them out there are pretty cheap and flimsy... However, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It's nicely made and constructed so hopefully it can withstand the beatings with 2 boys!

I was suprised to see how durable this chart was. A lot of them are just paper, some of them you even have to glue on to the wall. This one is really strong (great for those who are planing to move). I really love the stickers and the places to put the pictures. Best of all, it's Sesame Street theme (which is really hard to find).

Very Cute and More than I Expected

I thought the person's review before me did a great job describing this item, but it ended up being better than expected! I love the size that it is so you can pack it along if you move...or if you just want to move it's location. It folds into three sections, 2 folds - the ribbon up top is cream/white to match and very cute. It's not as tall as I expected, but I think I was picturing something for a 16 year old....yeah right. Anyway, it's colors are adorable, uni-sex which is nice. It's got spots for photos and comes with adorable little stickers to add on. I am just very pleased and can't wait to hang it on our wall and measure our daughter.

Good Quality and Highly Adorable

This growth chart is the nicest I've seen. Mostly because I love the illustrations of Anita Jeram, but it is also very well-made. It is a tri-fold design mounted on heavy board with a creme satin ribbon for hanging. It also comes with stickers to mark "I am one." and so on and it has wallet-size slots for photos. The slots are filled with illustrations so they look cute even before you have a chance to fill them with photos of your little cutie!

Multiple Perspectives..."A Significant Consensus"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-14
Various forces such as increased competition in the global economy and a high technology revolution in computers and communications have significantly increased private-sector productivity. In this volume, first published in 1997, Jasinowksi has selected and edited essays written by 26 leading economists and CEOs which, as he explains, "add up to a thorough investigation of American growth prospects. Although there are differences of opinion, the consensus is that dramatic economic changes have increased the nation's capacity for sustained, noninflationary economic growth." Although the authors (obviously) approach various issues from different perspectives and offer different recommendations, Jasinowski notes that there is a significant consensus among them: "First, they agree that in the long run, increases in output per person are driven mainly by technological advance....Second, the writers agree that market capitalism is the most efficient economic system....Third, there is a general consensus among the writers that the role of government should reduced.....Finally, there is a sense among these writers that the economic potential of the United States is greater than has sometimes been argued."

The essays are organized within seven sections whose titles suggest their primary focus. I also identify an essay included in each section. 1. The Mandate for Higher Growth ("The Economic Growth Imperative", Jack Kemp); 2. America Can Grow Faster ("Damn the NAIRU and Full Steam Ahead!", Robert Eisner); 3. Growth Is Coming from Companies ("Small Business and Economic Growth," Rosabeth Moss Kanter); 4. People Are Key ("the Power of Employees", Robert A. Lutz); 5. The Role of Technology ("Technology Investment Is Driving Growth", Frank R. Lichtenberg); 6. Global Competition ("Trade and Growth: Restoring the Virtuous Circle", Marina Whitman), and 7. Government Can Boost Growth ("The Growth Burden of Federal Regulation", William A. Niskanen). Jasinowski then provides an appropriate Epilogue, "The Rising Tide," in which he reiterates several of the recurrent themes in the 25 essays. To varying degrees, their authors do indeed explore dimensions of the "rising tide" metaphor. Jasinowski expresses an understandable concern about the situation which the American economy continues to occupy, "growing and thriving, the envy of the world" and yet "restricted by a political and bureaucratic mind-set that does not realize how the global economy has changed [and continues to change] the economic rules." That was true when Jasinowski formulated those thoughts several years ago and remains true now. Without an effective partnership of decision-makers in both the public and private sectors, free enterprise will fail to take full advantage the "rising tide" of global economics. No doubt many readers will challenge the assertions and conclusions offered within many of the essays but I think most readers will agree that the issues addressed remain relevant and indeed have even greater importance today than they did four years ago.

This growth chart is exactly what I was looking for! It measures up to 6 feet, so it should be the only one I ever have to buy. It's sturdy posterboard-like material, and should last through several moves. The marker stickers and animal stickers are cute, and my son loves to be measured now! I highly recommend this product!

I'm a little disappointed in the weight paper used for the chart. I was expecting it to be heavier cardboard but it is probably comparable to a manilla folder in weight. Otherwise it's a nice chart. I hope after it hangs for awhile it will lie flat against the wall.

like it. good for boys and girls.

I like the "book" cover the growth chart folds into -- for when you're no longer displaying it, but may want to keep tucked away (as a book). I like the sticker arrow stickers with the ages pre-printed, as well as some blank ones to customize your own ages or dates (made one into a "birth" arrow as some other reviewers mentioned). The animals are fun -good for a boy or girl. My daughter points to the animals on the growth chart. The only thing I didn't expect was that the growth chart starts from 1 foot, so when you put it up on your wall, you will have to mark where 1 foot high is and start the bottom from there, just so you know.

I rush-ordered this to have it in time for my son's first birthday and it's great. Nice and heavy, but folds nicely for future storage. (I looked at wooden growth charts but realize that after he turns a certain age this item is bound for the memory box.) It has colorful stickers for marking heights, and four spots for little square photos as you go. It's not terribly tall...will only measure till your child hits about 4 1/2 feet. (But really, how long is your child going to be excited about marking his height on a cute little chart anyway?)
