Ancient Egyptian faience is a marvel to look at, leading to the question of how they were made such a beauty. This book answers it brilliantly, and also details the history of the vitreous materials from the Predynastic onwards. Items made included amulets and large vessels : Why were they made ? How was glass manufactured ? The perceived mysteries behind the Ancient Egyptian masterpieces are themselves explained in this masterful book. Required reading for laypeople and scholars.

Este libro es un libro magnifico! Muy divertido! This book is very well written and in spite of the constant heart breaks and gypsy-like life style of the parents, who cast their children into a world of constant uncertainty and slight borderline running from the law, the children are a delight! They are smart and just full of life. They love their parents! They admire their parents. This is definitely a story that needed to be told. I was not thrilled with my childhood. After reading this, I realize that my childhood could have been worse. The good thing is, children do not realize how irresponsible their parents can be when they are drunks, or selfish beyond comprehension. However, any adult in his or her right mind cannot help but notice that this book is an unbelievable story of how selfish, incompetent, pathetic and pitiful parents can be when they are EXTREMELY irresponsible toward their children. These children were loved; they were not cared for properly, but very haphazardly! The writing is superb! The story is poignant and the book is hard to put down. In some way, I think every child can relate to parents hoodwinking them in certain aspects, even if they do not realize that until they are adults. But these parents hoodwinked these kids for a long time. In the end, all things are what they are (I won't discuss the end). Our bodies and minds can live through all kinds of things, we are far more resilient than we can ever believe we are. This book is a triumph for each of the sibling in the book, although it was written through the voice of one particular sibling. A really good read!

I found this book to be an excellent resource for nurse practitioners. It is very complete and nicely formatted for quick reference. Each condition includes a reproducable patient teaching sheet and there are appendixes for diets and procedures. My collaborating physician and I are considering using this book for our office protocols. I will also recommend it to my family nurse practitioner students.

The authors must have been reading my mind! I have spent hundreds of dollars on reference books (large and small) trying to find just one that would "work" for me. This reference is well organized, concise and exactly what I have needed -- Thank you!

I am a family nurse practitioner and a nurse practitioner educator. I found this book to be an excellent resource for primary care providers. The format is logical and easy to follow - it includes pathogenesis as well as physical findings, differential diagnosis, diagnostic tests and management. I especially liked the patient education material included with each entry. The guidebook has appendices on special diets, procedures, EKG interpretation etc. and the pharmaceutical information is up to date. We are planning to use Family Practice Guidelines as the protocol resource in our office.

This is the second copy of the book I've purchased. My mom collects the Anchor Hocking green glass and ironically so does her best friend. They did not know each other when they first started their collections. I bought the first book for my mom. Her best friend was so excited to find out there was a book! So, I've now ordered it for her birthday. She will be ecstatic! The book seems to cover every facet of the collection, including all patterns, every dish, and some very unusual finds. I would recommend it to anyone who collects this glass.

Colonel Hopper does it again!

In Forest Green Glass, Philip L. Hopper has once again teamed up with photographer Bruce Walters to produce a well-researched and stunningly beautiful book on Anchor Hocking glassware. The documentation is meticulous, and includes copies of old factory sheets, batch formulas for Anchor Hocking's green glass, and a section on confusing similarities. Besides precise research, Hopper's captions clearly identify each piece of glassware, it's measurements or dimensions, the factory's stock number, and an estimated value for the piece. Since there are only a few items per picture, the reader gets an enlarged view of each and every piece of glassware, and doesn't have to flip back and forth to find out what it is. Combine the thorough research with Bruce Walter's creativity, and technique of underlighting colored glass, and you have one gorgeous publication. A 21 gun salute for the Colonel and his cohort!

As a casual collector of Anchor Hocking forest green glass over 30 years, this was my first ever book I'd ever gotten (or seen) dedicated to my favorite type of glass. I was thrilled to see that nearly everything I had was represented and it gave me better background about the items. I used it that very weekend to recognize a small green vase I would otherwise have not known was anchor hocking (had gold paint on it). But don't use the prices as indications of the real value of the items, unless maybe yours are new-never-used still in original boxes. you couldn't sell your collection fo the prices listed I don't believe -- I'm still picking them up for just a few dollars at "junk" stores, and yard sales. And ebay items are never over $10.

Fostoria AAmerican Line 2056 is a real neat book and I have really enjoyed looking it over for the idea of finding the pieces that I have and looking for additional pieces and the price listed for the pieces is a real help.
The pictures are fantastic and the descriptions are good. I only wish that I knew how to measure the pieces of glass to match their measurements. It's great to have the individuals to share by allowing photographs of their collections to help us beginners. Such treasures! Thanks for a job well done to the author, Leslie Pina, Ohio.

This book is wonderful to look at and browse through! It has a great deal of information and MANY full color pictures. It is a delight to be able to see so many well photographed pieces in one volume. The price ranges are listed right with the picture and descriptions, so it is a quick and easy reference. This is a good book for those that are in search of a moderately priced volume for their personal reference, as well as for the dealer.

Note: the author, Leslie Pina, has many other volumes on glass that may be of interest to you.

If you have stemware and need to identify it, this is the book for you. There's a goblet index in the back which refers to the main book by numbers. I have found it invaluable for quick reference. Having ounces and height given really helps to identify which pieces one has. Each pattern is given production dates, and if it was made in several colors, production dates are given for each color.

For anyone interested in Native American pottery, this volume is a must-have.

We are lucky enough to have met Florence Chavarria Browning of the Santa Clara pueblo, and to have purchased one of her spectacular black pots.

These particular pots are not glazed, but fired specially to create the pure, colt black of black onyx, darker than coal, and softly glowing. Very few artists have skill enough to burn these amazing pots, and this book, introduces readers to the best of them.

Tomas Heinz, a practicing architect and skilled photographer has written several books on the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. In this volume, Heinz provides a thorough examination of Wright's glass art designs. The beauty and power of the designs are faithfully captured in nearly 400 illustrations, most of them in color. The first four chapters cover Wright's architectural glass designs from 1889 to 1936. Chapter Two is entirely devoted to the Dana house, which contains the largest and most extensive collection of art glass designs by Wright. Chapter Five covers Wright's use of light screens later in his career, and Chapter Six gives a brief overview of other decorative features which Wright incorporated into many of his architectural designs. A thoroughly annotated bibliography provides an execllent source for further study. This book is highly recommended for the insight it offers, its visual aesthetic appeal, and as a source of information and inspiration to stained glass artists.

Praise for Gatekeeper--

Chosen one of the top 13 Favorite Paranormal Romances on the Redlines And Deadlines Blog.

"If you love ghost love stories, I would rush out and get Gatekeeper to add to your own library today," says Whitney of Simply Romance Reviews.

Roxanne Rhoads of Nightowl Romance says of Gatekeeper, "Glass mixes a captivating plot with an attention getting romance. The author does a great job at combining suspense, mystery and the paranormal into a complex tale of history; deceit, reincarnation and ghosts peppered with hot and steamy sex scenes... Gatekeeper is an absorbing tale you won't want to stop reading until the book is finished."

A winner with great characters and exciting dialogue.

Great, Practical Gift Making Ideas For Kids - Highly Recommended!

Review Date: 2008-12-23
"Gifts In A Jar: For Kids" is a very cute spiral bound book that contains some great recipes for "kits" that are portioned to fit in 1-quart canning jars. We found this on sale at a book liquidator for a lot less than it is being sold here at Amazon. That being said, now that we have seen the book we would have paid the full price.

The spiral binding is very useful since it allows the book to stay open when laid out on your counter top. This is handy as you measure out the ingredients to be placed in your canning jar or, as my daughter (16) did for 12 of her classmates, plastic gift bags.

The included instruction/gift tags are a nice touch, but we did not want to pull pages out of the book. We just scanned the pages into the computer and printed out the needed copies. You could also make your own labels.

Not just for kids, this is a great resource for anyone needing quick and relatively inexpensive homemade gifts.

Highly recommended!

We made a dozen Friendship Brownies for my daughters (3 1/2) teachers for Christmas and they loved them! My daughter loved layering the white and brown chocolate chips the best. We cut out fabric circles for the tops, and I made our own recipe tags on the computer instead of using the ones included. They turned out very cute!
Not only was it something inexpensive to give but my daughter could help out as well. My only advice would be to mash things down a bit as you go...we got to the end and the last big ingredient overflowed the jar otherwise.
Great little book!
