This book was so informative. I learned so much about my pain from this book. I have read countless books on migraine but this was is the best. It details so many causes that most doctors never mention.

A very useful reference book

After checking this book out of the libary several times, I am finally buying it. I have found it to one of the best books of migraine I have read. The authors recognize the great extent to which migraine can affect people's lives. They offer up-to-date and useful information on how to deal with this serious malady, including both drug and drug-free approaches.

Excellent Resource

The MANUAL OF ENDOCRINOLOGY AND METABOLISM never will replace a good mystery as bedtime reading, but for anyone with an endocrine disorder--or anyone related to a patient with an endocrine disorder--this book is an excellent resource.

The MANUAL is fairly vast in its scope, at least by the standards of non-scientific laymen. It covers certain childhood cancers, examines the hormonal causes of hypertension, intersects with all insulin related illnesses, including but not limited to diabetes and "Syndrome X." With all issues, pediatric implications are examined as well as adult.

Editor Norman Lavin, M.D. has organized the format of this book intelligently, bunching together groups of abstracts in broad ranges of topics such as thyroid disorders or adrenal disorders.

Quick examination of the credits of contributing authors shows that more than 50 clinicians and researchers participated, most of them practicing physicians, and virtually all of them professors at major American medical schools as well.

While it is unlikely that any layman will find the need to read each included report, the MANUAL is easy to use. Certainly, anyone reading about a medical problem of specific interest will find the information here clear to understand, and the individual reports are fairly short. This book will be a resource in assisting affected patients in discussing their conditions more knowledgably with their own physicians.

A must for anyone who sees patients with endocrinopathies.

The beauty of this reference book is that it offers pithy reviews of common endocrine disorders with a streamlined focus on diagnosis and treatment. It tells you what to know in 10-20 page chapters with excellent use of diagrams and tables. What is especially nice is that areas of controversy are addressed by the authors who then interject their own treatment strategies based on years of experience and background information. I can't wait for the next addition.

This textbook is very user friendly. I prefer this text over the William's textbook of Endocrinology. Very well organized with many good illustrations and tables. Has appendix of endocrine testing as well as common drugs used in endocrinology. Highly reccomended.

I was looking for a book for my clinical attachment in internal medicine: this is real beauty. Completely clear and well illustrated. What I liked alot was that many terms and diseases are concisely defined right from the first lines of each section. Great value and easily the best of the clinical diabetes and endo textbooks.

Of great value not only to the researcher but most helpful for diligent students and questing laypeople as well, with its thoroughly up-to-date detailing of many commonly-encountered endocrine maladies and a number of exotic disorders as well. As a scientifically untrained reader, I found many articles of interest and enlightenment.

Leon Speroff 's Handbook for Clinical Gynecologic Endocrinology and Infertility is a miniature version of the famous and outstanding real book. The one I have read was one of the best summarized text books ever. Also had some new sections added, which makes it even more valuable, since some of the knowledge there is not possible to find anywhere else..
Very nice ..

The truth in Science and Medicine is not always available.

At the age of 49, I have finally realized that Doctors are not gods and that science and medicine, especially pharmaceuticals, can be a political and financial arena beneficial to a small number. I have read many alternative health books. This one is sensible, well written and myth dispelling. Dr. Dorian was interviewed on NPR recently which led me to buy her book. I read it with great interest. Taking charge of one's own health and health related issues is new to the American public. We trust that "someone else knows better". I have lost the blind faith and rely mostly on finding my own information....I have never done this before...it is time for all of us. Enjoy the book, it is worth the READ.

Practical guide for students and residents
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-01
This book is easy to read and offers just the right amount of information for a medical student or resident. The chapters are short and just focus on the essentials, so that it serves as a quick reference when you really just don't know a topic. For the non-Ob/Gyn physician, it can also serve as an excellent resource. The book would be an excellent way to study for the obstetrics and gynecology clerkships, as well as the subspecialty clerkships.
