It has been replicated all over the diocese. An opportunity for a real Jubilee exists, although it seems far away. Families are in shelters and the new corn crop, planted after Mitch destroyed one, has been lost, but Jubilee is about restoring right relationships, which describes the hope in Tocoa Colon, Honduras. Hondurans of all types are working together with mutual support and mutual respect. Each agreement signed defines rights/obligations in an effort to weaken the tradition of development in which those with resources decide on activities of those without. Every community is taking advantage of food-for-work pay incentives to change a relationship of exploitation to one of mutual caring. Planting with no herbicides or slashing/burning, reforestation and soil rehabilitation, and family gardens are projects to generate food payments from donated food.
