This is a great little book. Its refreshing to find such practical, sensible advice on this topic. I have found it so useful and as it is pretty much "jargon free" it is very accessible to people like me. I will be recommending this to others.

As more and more focus is placed on the need for change in the U.S. health system, it is vital to understand the historical roots of health care in America. Rosenberg provides us with an exceptionally thoughtful history of our hospital system. As one reads his book some twenty years after its publication, one realizes how prescient he was, and how relevant his book remains. The book is a very important one, and should be read by anyone considering health care reform in the U.S. I might add, finally, that it is very enjoyable to read.

This comprehensive, well written nursing text covers all the pertinent areas for caring for these patients. Arranged logically. This text is a must for a nurse's library as it will be referenced repeatedly.

This book gives my students the information that they need in order to serve their students' needs in career and transition services. It covers all age groups and offers valuable assessment, instruction and curriculum information which can be applied in their classrooms. It is up-to-date in its approaches to the issues facing special educators. All in all it will be a book that they will keep as a valuable resource. Having cared for autistic children, I have come across similar works designed to introduce/assist parents or carers in the past. This is the most accessible and constructive text I've encountered bar none. A fine balance is found between the provision of essential help and guidance to the encouragement of personal development. Despite the amount of information that there is to digest for someone new to the subject, the book's thoughtful layout makes it highly palatable.

With the emphasis not only focusing on the needs of the child but also those with the responsibility of caring, the authors display an acute appreciation for a parent's questions and anxieties. This is further expressed in the style and content of advice and suggestions that they offer. There are many helpful comments/case studies from families with first hand experience, all presented in a clear and concise manner, successfully avoiding the mire of condescension into which a work of this kind can unintentionally fall.

Should your interest be strictly of a scientific nature, you may need to read further. For any parent or carer however, this should be considered a definitive guide.

I am an early childhood special education teacher, who was recently transferred to a severe and profound disabled classroom full of beautiful kids with intense needs. Teaching them is as much physical and occupational therapy as it is anything else.

This book gives a great amount of useful information that any parent, caregiver, teacher, or other person responsible for helping anyone with severe disablities needs and can use. It covers proper positioning, feeding, and dozens of other practical and necessary things to know.

This book has enabled me to feel much more knowledgeable, competant, and confident that I am doing "the right things" at the right times for the right reasons. That is worth much more than the price of this book. I couldn't recommend it enough.

This book, or should I say this manual, is really important and helpful. I am a Ph.D student and I know exactly what it does mean to have a manual like this in schools. The manual gives you a chance to evaluate your students with special needs. Additionally, the manual follows the new trends in assessment and evaluation process through linking the assessment results with educational or intervention purposes. By using the Assessment Log and the Developmental Progress Chart, you, as a teacher, can link the ongoing assessment information with the IEP information for your students.
This manual will help you understand the developmental level and deviance for your students, as well as how to plan for age appropriate and functional interventions.

As a future educator, it is important to understand that there will be a variety of students who will be in my class. If you are contemplating surgery for cataract removal, this book will answer all your questions. It explains how the human eye works, the causes and symptoms of cataracts, the removal of a cataract and insertion of the implant, and the recovery after surgery. The guide also explains the differences between the multifocal lens implants currently available that can reduce your dependency on glasses after surgery. The co-author, Dr. David Chang, was my cataract surgeon so I was fortunate to have one of the best surgeons remove my cataracts (from both eyes).
