This book is great! A must read for anyone who has a disability and needs personal assistance. The book is very practical
and useful June tells it like it is. She doesn't sugarcoat what it is like to use personal assistance. She uses a combination
of humor, honesty, self responsibility, and common sense to tell us how to effectively manage our personal attendants.
This book is the first realistic view of personal assistance I've read. The book is mostly about using live in attendants,
but I think the material can be applied in other personal assistance arrangements as well.

to savour the flavours. Highly recommended for anyone seriously searching to 'food for thought' on how to live a meaningful

I'd been looking for a book like this. It covers a variety of topics for parents with children with learning or behaviorial
issues. For each topic, it gives strategies to deal with that.
It has understanding and accepting your child's difficulty, getting the spouse involved, and building the child's self-esteem. It discusses working with schools and educators, asking for special services and placement, and how to help your child make school transitions.
The section on self-advocacy was valuable to help the child be his or her own best advocate, teach your child social skills, enhance communication skills and teach self-reliance.
To me, the suggested strategies are really sensible and get you started when sometimes otherwise it just seems overwhelming.
I'm loaning my book to a friend whose child has ADD and then to another friend with an adult child with learning difficulties.
This is a greatly needed book since many parents with these issues just don't know where to turn for help.

Author Rick Swaine offers something for everyone in this enjoyable read about famous and not-so-famous baseball players who
overcame disabilities. For the true baseball afficionado, Swaine has researched all the statistics and chronicles each player's
accomplishments within the context of baseball history. For mere fans of the game, like me, who enjoy learning more about
the game and the players, this book offers a glimpse into the fascinating lives, both on and off the diamond, of an interesting
array of players from past to present. And for readers who have an interest in disabilities, Swaine brings to light the courage
and determination these remarkable players had to live out their biggest dream - to play baseball. These are inspiring stories
that needed to be brought to light, and Swaine has done so in a way that will appeal to many readers.

This book, an insight to the life of a handicapped man, depicts the true harships that someone of that nature must unwillingly
endure. Thomas, showed greta courage and stamina, even up to his death. "Because of Thomas" reminds us of how lucky we are,
and I am happy to say that the window ofother worlds has been opened up for me to see what these people went through. This
book is encouraging, not negative. I found it very capturing but at the same time a vivid reminder of those who struglle through
each day but make the most of it.

This workbook has been a lifesaver with my daughter as her grandfather was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. They
are very close and this workbook has helped her work thru many of her emotions. We purchased this workbook together with the
book, "When Someone I Love Has Cancer". Both tools have been very beneficial. She turns to them often when she is having
a tough time.

This Guide is an invaluable asset and you are behooved to own it, if you have an autistic child or adult in your life. It should be in the library of every single person who has any sort of connection to autism, be it professional, or familial. It will show you all the options we can turn to in the most easily understandable manner. It is not a judgemental tract. That is not the intention. It is a source of information and explanations.
So do not expect the author to tell you what to do with your child or relative with autism. DO expect the author to present you with the vast array of treatments available in a concise, clear manner.
I know, as a mother of two autistic children, that out there, this determined woman did all the legwork for all of us, did it well, just upated it for a third time, and I am grateful. You can throw this in your pocketbook for school meetings, you can read it when your child has first been diagnosed and you know nothing, or you can use it to look up any sort of therapy you might have heard a bit about from someone in passing. It's all in here. AMAZING, EXTRAORDINARY BOOK. A MUST HAVE!!! Thank you, Elizabeth Gerlach.
