An excellent guide for those who seek a healthy alternative, though I still weigh virtually one third of a ton. Though I have to admit that I supplemented all McFadden's nutritious tasty meals with a support pie.

Outstanding ... Healthy ... Full of flavour ... Easy recipes
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1998-05-03
This cookbook was a gift, and I've made over 50% of the recipes. The theme is "Eating for Great Taste and Good Health - Easy Recipes Abundant with Fruits and Vegetables", and that pretty well sums it up! I particularly recommend the Carrot-Butternut Soup with Fresh Coriander, the Papaya and Shrimp Thai Salad and the Hot Pepper Bouillabaisse. The cookbook is full of great hints on how to prepare and store a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. It is also very helpful in explaining which fruits and veggies are particularly good sources of various vitamins and nutrients. Even has a section for recipes that kids will love. I highly recommend this one!

If you have High Cholesterol - Let Vit C kick it out !
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-22
My cholesterol dropped from 273 to 205 during the year I took 3 or 4 vit C before bed (1000mg tablets). I figured I did not change my food or excercise habits so maybe the vit C did it. I shared that with a friend whose Dad had a heart attack -- she rebuked me as Vit C will harm me - she was sure of it -- I was spooked enough to cut back to 1 tablet. A year later now my level is 283 ! SO I went to the WEB to learn more - after viewing tons of articles about cholesterol having only one way out - through the liver produced bile, and that animals deficient in ascorbic acid had livers that were not effective to lower the cholesterol circulating in the plasma (blood) or the liver itself. This book makes it so easy to read all the features of ascorbic acid activity in the body. This book is best for the non-doctorate in bio science -- and seems to be accurate to all those documents I viewed.

Brilliantly written real life murder mystery. If you are interested in the foods you eat and possible contamination from pesticides, this book is essential reading. Even if you're not that interested at the moment, the book is a highly entertaining murder mystery which may well change your view on what you eat by the end of it.

Where East and West truly meet
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 1999-01-15
The Way of Life is a unique comparison of Macrobiotic philosophy and Biblical theology. Most Macrobiotic philosophy is couched in the metaphors of eastern philosophy. What John Ineson has done in The Way of Life is to interpret the seven universal principles of Macrobiotic philosophy in the language and imagery of the book of the West -- the Bible. This unique approach brings together two traditions long considered to be twain which would never meet. The Way of Life is not only helpful for any student of Macrobiotics, but this book particularly addresses the concerns of a Christian who may find the eastern philosophy difficult to fathom. The first half of the book analyzes the seven universal principles. The second half offers interesting chapters on yin and yang; the food of the Bible; gratitude; forgiveness; awareness, and self reflection. Ted Keller's thoughtful pen and ink drawings give a visual foundation to each chapter. The Way of Life is packed with anecdotes, humor, and information which will enhance anyone's practice of Macrobiotics and everyone's way of life.
