I loved this book and it is the nearest thing I have to a manual for healthy living. Written in a conversational and motivational style, Bernadette Bohan explores the science behind our food choices. She will inspire you to gradually introduce positive changes to your life, to substitute eating for health rather than comfort. It is full of immunity boosting tips and practical advice and recipes. A cancer survivor (twice), this book will certainly appeal to those who have completed cancer treatments but also to anyone wishing to embrace good health. She will have you reaching for your juicer with vigour.

I bought the book after random surfing - looking for yet another diet. To my surprise, the Biochemical Key is a doing wonders. I eat much more, weigh less, and feel more energetic. The description of the theory and the practical aspects are straightforward and easy to understand. Pretty amazing that this has not been done before. It's just a matter of understanding that eating healthy is the solution to being overweight. The basic trick is simply getting over our addiction to sugar and its derivatives. I still miss the sugar - but it's well worth it
Have a shot - I don't think you'll regret it.

This book is a good quick read. I gained a better understanding of nutrition and what I was doing wrong nutritionally to my body. I started with the 28 day fast and lost 20lbs. I continued to modify my eating and put my newly discovered knowledge into place as I shopped. I have lost 50 lbs total and my clothes fit differently as I lost weight in tough areas I never seen weight lose in before. I am healthier now, no blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol problems for me. I highly recommend this book and new way of life to all.

I recently started the ER4YT lifestyle diet (I'm an O), and this book has been a delight. It not only provides over 120 recipes, but does so as a entertaining read, well-laid out , with background history about and cultural uses of the ingredients tucked in here and there amongst the recipes. It makes reading the whole book (and all the recipes) a pleasure.

The recipes are pretty quick and easy to make- a welcome feature for all of us busy folk!

Each recipe has the means of adapting the recipes for different types at the top of the text- allows me to quickly see which recipes I can use, and specifically how to make them usable. Most of the recipes are adaptable, so you don't feel like there are big chunks of unusable info here.
I highly recommend this book- enjoy!

The roadmap to health that will change peoples lives.
Helpful Votes: 53 out of 57 total.
Review Date: 1999-02-22
Dr. James D'Adamo is a internationally renowned naturopathic physician who has developed a revolutionary new method of natural healing. Dr. D'Adamo takes into account that we are all individuals and we are all different, so we should not all be eating the same things. The requirements for our very different bodies vary greatly. Also a well nourished body will not as easily become susceptible to illness. What exactly was the key to define who an individual is and how they can help their body heal itself? BLOOD-TYPE!! Dr.D'Adamo discovered that all people should not be vegeterians because certain blood groups did not thive without meat. In addition , your blood group also dictated to some degree the type of exercise program you should follow. Type O blood needs protein and plenty of strenuous exercise. Type A should slowly become vegatarian and do more streching and relaxing exercise. Type B blood is between O and A blood types and does well with a combination of meat and vegtables with relaxation techniques and strenuous exercise. Type AB which is the rarest and newest blood type, falls somewhere between A and B. AB requires less meat than type B and should not follow as strict a vegatarian diet as type A. Type AB should have light exercise and relaxation and stretching. Dr. D'Adamo has used these techniques over the years when he discovered that some patients displayed some characteristics of blood-types other than their own. This led to his discovery and identification of 6 sub-types or sub-groups; Oa, Ob, Ao, Ab, Bo, and Ba. Dr. D'Adamo has developed diet guidelines and vitamin supplement guidelines for each. Dr. D'Adamo includes a chapter that will gradualy bring you through 5 levels to your optimum diet so your change will not be too overwhelming. This book also has a chapter on vitamins and minerals, showing you signs of deficiency and describing how each mineral and vitamin should be used. He also has a section on remedies for various aliments incuding hypoglycemia and Candida. In these remedies he does take into account blood-type. Dr. James D'Adamo is a Diplomate in Naturopathy, and has studied in many of the finest health clinics and offices in Switzerland, Germany, Norway, France, Austria and England. He has been the Vice-President of the Naturopathic Association of Physicians of America, the President of the Natropathic Society of New York, and the Liaison Officer representing the United States at the International Naturopathic Physicians Organization. He is also the founder of the Institute for the Advancement of Natural Therapies in Toronto. This book explains how you can have a hand in your own health, promote natural healing and prevent illness. This book may also be useful for doctors who are interested in incorporating diet in their clients health. Overall Dr. James D'Adamo has made a groundbreaking discovery which should have a great impact on the world.

I for one am one of the guys featured in the book as "the biggest loser" from the first weight loss competition we ever had,and serioulsy, this is really worth reading even if there are so many books out there all about losing some of the unwanted pounds, however this one has a huge difference among the rest. It is not only based on Steve's own story, but it goes into more than just losing weight. This honestly teaches about changing our foundation on taking well care of the body we all have been given by the lord based very much on biblical principles. This is certainly worth reading, and is very life changing.

Body Balance Works!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-11
Body Balance is a stunningly beautiful card deck based on ancient healing traditions that enable the user to activate the body's own wisdom. Using the imagery of the elements - air, earth, water, fire, and space - the positive messages on the cards, reinforced by the beautiful graphics, facilitate growth toward balance in the realms of the physical, the mental, the emotional, and the spiritual.

Though working with the cards is designed to bring balance and healing to eating patterns, the focus is not on food, diet, calories, or exercise. It is rather about growing awareness. For example, one Fire card reads "Fire: Empowerment. My life force is strong as I fill with universal energy and the rivers of my body run clear. I am the master of my energy and I use it as I choose." A Water card: "Compassion. As I love and accept all of myself, I can love and accept humankind. Compassion begins with me."

As I work with the cards I sense them drawing me toward a matrix of wholeness, in which eating patterns evolve to support healing of every aspect of one's life.

The accompanying booklet suggests a number of ways of exploring the deck, both by choice and by chance. I like to work deeply with them several days a week, and each day choose one card to practice that day.

Body Balance is a unique and welcome addition to the long tradition of Angel Cards, Tarot Decks, Affirmation Decks, Celtic Wisdom, and Oracle decks.

Your body (and mind and spirit) will thank you for working with Body Balance.

Excellent book on nutrition

Jane Clarke's Body Foods for Life is an excellent book on nutrition. Without being too overbearing, she explains what you should eat and why. The "why" part is simple enough to understand, and yet convincing enough to follow.
Unlike her American counterparts (Clarke is British), she does not administer heavy doses of vitamins to her readers, nor does she banish the use of cream/butter and beef. Clarke's phlosophy on food is that of moderation and variety. I do find this very refreshing (especially after Nestle's hefty tome on the same subject). By all means, buy this book and start eating REAL foods for your health!

Of all the women's health books out there, this is one of the best. I have read it cover-to-cover, and recommend it to friends who enthusiastically feel the same. Jane Clarke is a revelation.
