Being an active and health conscious individual, I was looking for a realistic weight loss plan that would suit my urban lifestyle. After reading the "Wine Lovers..." I've found what I was looking for. This book provides a food and wine education surrounding the lifestyle choices of those in the Mediterranean. The "Wine Lovers..." author(s) are passionate, well-informed, and educated. Their enthusiasm for food and wine spills gracefully onto the pages of this book. The "Wine Lovers..." also boasts quality recipes far above the standard for diet books. It's like having a gourmet cookbook inside a diet book! I urge anyone who is looking for a lifestyle change, trying to lose weight, or who simply desires the richness and fulfillment of wine to consider this book for purchase.

Not just for wine lovers

In my business, I receive a lot of requests for endorsements, but accept only those I deem the best. And I jumped on this request immediately. It could not be more appropriate for my audience.

I agree with the reviewer from Seattle who described this as a great reference book - both for its informed health information and its storehouse of healthy gourmet recipes (no those are NOT compatible).

Not just for wine lovers? No, this is a great source book for those wondering whether wine can be beneficial to their health. The answer is yes it is beneficial, if consumed daily and in moderation. And that's good news for all of us.

I originally bought "A Woman Doctor's Diet For Women" in the 80's and loved it. I lost 20 lbs. with no difficulty, was never hungry and it was so simple to follow, perfect for women. I loaned the book to someone many years ago and now bought myself another copy of Dr. Edelstein's book.
I know I will again achieve the needed results without worrying about my health being affected by poor advice by a wannabee diet guru.

The reasons for dieting are many, and there are many diets that work for one person or another. This one was great for me. I am a middle-aged diabetic female, and have had problems all my life with my weight, this was the first and still most workable version of a low-carb diet I have tried. It is a fairly disciplined approach, although not as complex as some of the later diets. I found it easy to follow, easy to understand, and above all, successful, having lost over 70 pounds and keeping it off!

This is a psychological approach to weight and eating. It is differnt than any other Diet Book because it focuses on emotions and why you eat and more importantly about the issues that cause you to eat. If you can deal with the issues and emotions on your own then this book will deffinetly work for you. I am a great advocate of Doreen Virtue and her work and loved this book. I believe that it has given me the tools I need to stop eating when I am stressed. Thank you Doreen.

Foundational Book On Dental Health

Review Date: 2008-08-01
Dentist Melvin Page and anthropologist Leon Abrams believe that it takes a 25% imbalance of body chemistry to cause teeth to decay. After 30 years and 40,000 blood tests, Dr. Page discovered the biochemical cause of tooth decay and gum disease: a disturbance in the ratio of calcium to phosphorus in the blood. When the amounts of calcium or phosphorus in the blood deviate from normal levels, or if they are not in the exact proportion of 2.5 parts calcium to one part phosphorus, minerals are withdrawn from the dentin and bone, resulting in tooth decay.

The book talks about Dr. Page's system of glandular balancing, the glands, dietary advice, and several of Dr. Page's case studies. This is a good book for those who want to become well versed in the real causes of cavities.

Your Body Is Your Best Doctor

Dr. Melvin Page, D.D.S. developed a system of body measurements to determine one's inherited glandular pattern. He measured thousands of patients and was able to correlate various glandular patterns with different degenerative diseases. The deviations from an ideal glandular pattern were not gross abnormalities that you would find in endocrinology text books, but slight deviations that neverthless make significant effects on one's health. This book does not deal with his techique of measurement. This is dealt with in another book titled Degeneration Regeneration. This book deals mainly with the diseases associated with various glandular patterns. It also deals with personality traits that may be associated with the different patterns. He also presents his diet for health. This diet was presented over forty years ago and it stands the test of time. This is a must read for any student of diet and nutrition. Raymond C. Forbes, D.M.D.

As a nutrition therapist I recommend this book to the parents of clients I am working with. Carolyn Costin offers professional guidance to parents with the her unique perspective as a recovered patient. The chapters intended for Mom and then Dad are especially helpful in gaining an understanding in the development and treatment of eating disorders. If you suspect or know that your daughter has an eating disorder I highly recommend this book.

Not only do I find this book relatively easy to understand, but Carolyn gives real-world examples to support her theories and ideas. I am currently at her treatment center in Malibu and this book has not only enlightened me on eating disorders, but it has also aided me to comprehend what my parents and loved ones are going through and how the eating disorder affects them. I highly recommend this book!

Great Recipes; Simplified Meal Planning

Review Date: 2008-11-27
Everything the first cookbook, The 1200-Calorie-a-Day Menu Cookbook : Quick and Easy Recipes for Delicious Low-fat Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, and Desserts wanted to be and wasn't. Don't get me wrong; it was fine for its time. This book is just plain better.

Updated recipes with 9 or fewer ingredients and less reliability on fat-free, chemical-laden frankenfoods. (Although there are some!)

The entire meal takes less than 30 minutes--the whole menu complete on one page. Calorie count and other nutritional information provided for each recipe/menu including identifying menus higher in fiber, vitamins A & C, and calcium.

I made the Creamy Pumpkin Pie dip for our dance troupe hafla and it was a big hit! Nothing to take home.

She doesn't provide grocery lists. That will depend on what menus you choose. But, she does offer a brief nutritional introduction (just enough to keep your eyes from glazing over)and suggestions for what to do with leftovers. I'm all about freezing extra portions for later so I don't mind a recipe that serves 4-6.

Those who've read some of my other review will note that I'm a BIG fan of mix and match diet cookbooks. If I was going to buy a companion volume, I'd choose The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook

It's easy to see why Faye Levy won a 1994 James Beard Book Award -- these recipes are wonderful. You'll hardly know you're eating low fat! I love the way Levi groups recipes together in menus. They're easy to prepare, and the flavors of each dish blend perfectly with one another.
